I don't think I'm going out on a limb when I say that EPIK will fail (if it hasn't already). I agree 100% that you hear more about the negatives than positives online but if you visit the SVS, PSA, HSU etc. threads you simply don't see the same level of customer angst. That to me is very telling. Sure there is a bit of "piling on" here, but when you spend $600 to $2000 on a product that you expect to enjoy close to every day for a few years and then come to the realization that even a repair may not be possible given the lack of replacement parts and a lack of customer support you have a right to be upset. When it comes down to it, these disgruntled customers have only one response and that is to warn others.
As a relative newb who just recently (last few months) started researching subs I have a different perspective. Having only ever seen Klipsch, Sony, Kef, Paradigm, Pioneer, Velodynne, Def Tech, Yamaha etc. etc. etc. at electronics retailers I was very wary about going the ID route and can say that prior to 6 months ago I'd never heard of SVS, PSA, HSU, EPIK etc. After some research I came to learn that some (at one point) well respected ID companies were no more (ED, AV123, to name a couple). I was very intrigued by the value offered by EPIK when I started my reasearch back in February but I fortunately stumbled across this thread and couldn't help but think that history would repeat itself.
If its too good to be true it probably is.... it seems that EPIK's value proposition has been partly based on going with lower cost components, less responsive customer service and little to no thought about stocking legacy components for repairs. Anyone who is considering an ID subwoofer (newb or not) will very likely come across this thread in their research, and why they would choose an EPIK sub (if/when) one becomes available over one of the other well known brands is beyond me. Why take the risk?
