Anyone know what that movie was called that a guy on a tugboat was always saying (where's Chad?) This is true I’m not playing around. He must have said it like a dozen times throughout the movie. rolleyes.gif very dumb movie..

Gear mentioned in this thread:

I believe he plans on getting back in the sub business, but he's procrastinating about it.

If I were to buy from him again, I would look at it as the same as buying off ebay or used.

Are you thinking of the Charlie's Angels movie? Must not be, because that was a great movie!

I do not think you are defending, but they way you said it could lead one to believe so...thats the only reason I posted. However I have read your previous posts and know where you stand. smile.gif

Nice attempt at a retreat, numbnuts. Of course you didn't mean it. rolleyes.gif

Retreat from what? Nothing to retreat from. Only time my nuts get numb is when I've been riding for five or more hours at a stretch. I forget, were you ever an actual owner of the Epik sub? Do you still post in the eD thread? smile.gif

I wouldn't normally say that, but the fact he essentially was out of business for 6 months and made no effect to keep the community updated shows where his priorities are. Its not with the customers that's for sure.

Careful, lovinthehd will call you an arrogant customer who thinks Chad owes you the world.

You guys are so funny and self absorbed. Do your mommies/wives let you post here? Who cares if Chad posts on a forum page? That's his problem but to get insulted because he doesn't just shows your shortcomings....kinda like Greggy.

I noticed my Empire buzzing today that seemed to get louder with increased volume. I can just hear it from my listening position like 20 feet away and it is quite noticeable when I put my ear next to the cone. Thoughts?

My thoughts? You're screwed.
To clarify, this is not a hum but a buzzing that I would almost classify as a rattle on a bass hit which gets worse the harder it hits.

Sound like an amp problem?

If you're asking me, I would say no. Seems like it is limited to one speaker and no rattle/buzz on the other side. I could be wrong, of course.

I'm thinking of buying a used Empire. Anyone have any thoughts on what it might be worth at the moment? Support for it seems non existent right now?

I wouldn't touch it. You don't want an amp to go out and have a long wait to replace it.

My advice save more money. Buy a Power Sound Audio XS30. Similar design better, components and a warranty from a company who is not effectively out of business.

Thanks...this is what I am worried about. NO replacement parts at the momemt, or possibly forever, if a problem arises. What kind of price could you put on a product that if it breaks it's non-reparable?

Thanks for mentioning the XS30. It does look very similar to the Empire design. I will take a look at it.

The same price you would put on a item that is discontinued or is a used item.

So, I called and left a VM at Epik on Monday morning. No call back. I called twice today at different times and it went to VM.
I have not checked this thread in months and saw that blog update from Epik back in early June. I don't know how anyone can take this company seriously and not see through the B.S. I especially loved this quote from the blog post:
Quote:
We have been taking care of customers warranty issues, but know that a few have fallen through the cracks. Please give us a call or email and we will get everybody taken care if you have been waiting. We are sorry if you’ve been waiting a little longer than usual. We look forward to getting everybody taken care of quickly.

LOL, what a joke. Anyway, I will never considering buying or recommending a product from this company. There are just too many other reliable companies out there and, let's face it, customer service is everything when you are a company that is internet direct and have little to no presence in stores, or through marketing. These audio forums will make you or break you. Ask Elemental Designs. Ask AV1234, etc. Looks like Epik has joined their ranks...

What??? All you have to do is give them a call or send them an email and they will quickly take care of you...... rolleyes.gif

I have often wondered about that myself. I think you should post a thread pertaining exclusively to the subject. wink.gif

Buying an Epik Empire depends on price and what trade off that you are willing to take. I own an Epik Legend and have had no problems with the sub. The Empire is a good sub but, I would not count on support from Epik. I have brought other used equipment and have had good luck. I have also refurbished some used equipment. I comes down to personal choice but most of the opinions on this thread as negative because people have become personally overly vested in Epik similar to people getting into the lives of Soap Opera characters, lol. It has been well over a half year and people are still hanging onto this thread hoping for the dead to come back to life.

The majority of my speakers are used and I have a killer system for a great price. If the amp fails, you can always use an external amp to drive it like a Crown or Berhinger. Just a thought.

I just sold one for $400. It had a couple of dings and some snags in the grill. I wouldn't pay more than $400 even if it is mint. It is an amazing sub and are just as reliable as any other sub if you don't get an amp from that error prone batch. People talk smack but how many used Epiks do you see being sold all over the internet. Also, a replacement amp from most brands are going to cost a whole lot more than $400, assuming you are buying used or new and it breaks after warranty period. Think it over carefully.

I would have given you $450 if it was working. Chad sucks at running a business, but he does know how to make good subs. As was mentioned above, you can get a very good external amp for under $400 and most of them have 2 channels so you can power another passive sub along side the empire.

I have pretty much decided to get dual Orbit Shifter LFUs. Go big or go home, right?

Who wants both my Empires? As above, one is making a buzzing noise from the speaker itself but is obviously otherwise still in working order. The other is running flawlessly. Alternatively, I have an even newer Legend downstairs in the Family Room that I could sell and rotate the Empire downstairs. Email me if you're interested pianoprodigy at gmail
post #19707 of 20352
Same here. I have my Legend listed up on Audioholics and Emotiva forums. It has not caused me any issues to date and has been an excellent performer. If I weren't upgrading, I would have kept it despite all the issues with the company itself as it's still a great sub. I wasn't worried about the amp failing as I could always drill two holes and use an inexpensive external amp such as a Behringer to power it as folks mentioned.

i am looking for two Empires to add to the four I already have. They need to be manufactured later than summer of 2012. Thanks.

That shouldn't be too difficult to figure out. Just look for all the seismic activity...
