PS: I have velvet on the sub and center speaker so we don't see any shine what so ever from the screen on to the speakers. It isn't terrible with out it, but it does help a little in the enjoyment of viewing in a cave.

I have a similar sized room. I have the Tower and am very happy with it. I'm pretty sure if I got the Knight or Caliber that it would not be enough. Definitely go with the Castle or Tower.

I never thought just how much of an impact placement has on a sub. I moved my sub around today and tested it in a different position, and I was underwhelmed.

Seriously the best thing you can do while waiting for your subs to be built and shipped, is to read up about placement, and also learn how to generate frequency response graphs from your PC. I think its important to know exactly how your sub is performing in your room. Subs aren't cheap, might as well take the effort to maximize your purchase.

Major props and thanks to cyberbri for helping me realize the "room" element.

funsocaltiger,

Thanks for your input as It's been hard to find some people with with a situation like mine. What I thought was going to be a HT room turned into the wifes workout room. So I have the family room with the cosmetic issues that come with it. But atleast she's been 100% behind all the new equipment I've bought the last couple months. I showed her the size of the Conquest and she said "next house" but was OK with the Tower or Castle. So at least I've got that going for me, which is nice.

Has it been hot enough for you down here in SoCal?(if you are in SoCAl) I'm in southern Riverside County and it's been as hot as HE**!! 108 in my back yard today

Thanks again for the feedback.

Allright I have decided on the Tower. Howerver I have a couple questions.
My TV area has a built in TV niche that we doint use. Its has a 24" and 36" sidewalls and is 5' wide. Tv and stereo /sat boxes sit on the tv stand. in front of the niche.
Woulld putting the Tower in the niche be a problem or create a problem 9Sound)as it would be directly behind the tv and equipment?
Would it work in the corner behind our couch between the couch and outside wall with 2 windows, with the couch being 3-4 " from the sub. It would then fire down the back of the couch towrds the front of the room?
Or would it work well next to the couch as an end table? Firing into the center /front of the room.

These are my options and I was wondering what you think before I pull the trigger in the next day or so.

Thanks for the input

What made you change your mind? I've got 2 MFW's on order, but had also considered the Epik line. I went with the MFW's because of the price break when purchasing 2.
the price difference was slightly more through epik so that wasn't an issue but the failure rate and issues with humming, peeling veaner, and feet problems. Dont get me wrong the mfw is probably an amazing sounding sub but I think av123 needs to address these issues 1st and then they will have a great product. I have been researching now for over a month on what subs to purchase and my decision has been made to go with knights. Which ever sub I chose I knew I was going to have amazing bass with 4 subs. Plus warranty is longer through epik.
I have been doing quite a bit of research as well, and must say I was heavily influenced by Craig's subwoofer ranking list. I decided over the weekend that the Tower was the subwoofer for me. My room has very high ceilings as it's an "open" living room (probably 18 ft ceilings) and the room itself is open to other rooms as well (my living room will be my media room) but it's overall a pretty small space. The house is only 1200 sq. ft. total. I can't imagine the Tower not being enough, but I guess I'll find out soon enough

What's been the average wait time for the Towers? Has it been sitting at a month for most people who have ordered recently?

WOOOHOOOOO!!!!

my Tower has Finally shipped.

ordered May 20th. Was waiting to ship since June 13th (talked with Chad). Now, I'm looking at a Thursday or Friday arrival. I sense a mild fever coming on those days .

Now its to setup REW and brush up on sub placement techniques. My space is 5000 cubic feet total (directly opens into a kitchen). Hope this sub exceeds my expectations. much thanks to Craigsub sub reviews.
Epik posted shipped for my Valor. So wait time right now is pretty much around a month.
A month is fine for me. I'd love to have it sooner, but I couldn't really even use it. I move into my house August 1st so 5 weeks. Although I really wouldn't mind unleashing the sub on my neighbor downstairs. He's assaulted me with his subwoofer many times before. I know the Epik would kill whatever he has though and then some

When I was trying to decide on what sub to get I had a lot of problems finding someone with the same room size situation too. Not many people in the rest of the country have rooms this big but out here everyone has HUGE houses. I live in Eastvale (just West of Mira Loma). So I am in the same area right by you. You definitely can't survive on less than a Castle/Tower out here. I think you will be happy with your purchase.

And yes, the weather here is just insane lately. Inside house temp is hitting high 80s now.

Here are some pics of my room and how open it is.
Any Ideas or suggestions as the wife does come into consideration. There is plenty of room in the TV niche as I can move the TV stand out further and I can put it back there either firing into the room or sideways firing into the walls.
I can also put it in the corner behind the couch under the window, replace the end table with it or put it between the old Magnavox Astro-Sonic stereo and couch.

If you see any other options please let me know.
Thanks

PS- Those Bose cubes and center have been replaced with PSB T55's and a C-60.

Pics always help. Ok these are only suggestions your results WILL vary. I would try next to the end table where the tall plant is, reason being gets it a little further away from the seating. But that is just me I have never liked nearfield bass, since the closest person to the sub always gets the most bass. If that doesn't work out space or sound or WAF wise, next I would try behind the TV, you can lay it down on its side or standing up, mostly just a looks thing whether it is on it's side. But of course try the easy spots first, then behind the TV. You never know what you are gonna get, as well put by Mr. Gump's momma.

Personally, I like nearfield bass. And in my experience when I have guests over they prefer the seat with the most bass. I know that arguably defeats the purpose of bass calibration but whatever makes people happy. Most people I know like the LFE pretty hot.

question guys. Those using recievers, what Brand/model are you using? I'm in the process of buying one soon. So far, the Onkyo 705 and the Pioneer VSX 1018 are looking really good.

1st things 1st... What's your max budget?? 2nd HDMI Switching??
I got my Valor today! Five weeks and a day from order to receipt. The extra day was due to Fedex. They claimed the label had fallen off and called me to get my address. Then they claimed they could not find my condo, even though they have delivered many boxes to my building previously. Upon receipt of the big box, it was evident that the label was sheared off by Fedex's rough handling. As for not being able to find my building (a large, 9-story building with hundreds of units in it, and nothing else nearby that compares to its mass) I think the driver just wanted to go home.

The Valor is a wonderful addition to my Magnepan MMG's! I have bass! At first, the tendency is to play the Valor too loud. After you dial it in, it is just right. Very musical. Highly recommended.

glad to hear you're enoying them. And that they came in excellent condition. I think the waiting is the hardest part. Don't know some ppl who order from other manufacturers and wait 5-8 months. Seeing "Processing" on the 21th day after ordering....I'm b*tch*n.

If you can live with 720p or 1080i, you could get an HK AVR745 refurb off eBay from the Harmanaudio store with some patient bidding. To me, audio is much more important than video anyway and the HK excels in that department IMO.

For what it's worth, mine is a refurb from eBay and I've been very happy with it, no problems whatsoever. I got it for $636 plus shipping.
If you are looking for bells and whistles( 1080P upconvert,HDMI 1.3, the new HD series surround modes, HD radio, 105w per channel x 7, 2nd zone or Bi-amp front speakers blah blah blah) the Yamaha HTR-6180 can be found for @ $600.00 + shipping. Google it and see all the prices.
But kemitchell is right as H/K sounds much better both musically and H/T wise IMO.
(I also bought mine refurbished from Harmon Audio on ebay) I had a H/K 340 (wish I had the 745) for the last 3 yrs and wanted to get all the goodies and bought a HTR- 6180. Hooked it up and played with it for a while and got it to sound pretty good but even then it didn't sound as good to me as my 340 with 55/65watts per channel. So I ended up with a Nad T755.
Good luck as there are a lot of good receivers out there and you really should go and listen to them as they each have different sounds and goodies. Onkyo, Harmon Kardon, Pioneer, Marantz, Yamaha and Dennon are all great choices. And you shouldn't be afraid of refurbished product's as they have pretty much the same warranty as new and will allow you to get alot more receiver for the $$$. Mine still works flawlessly and is being enjoyed by my brother and his family.

What speakers are you going to be running? Sub?
The Onkyo 805 is probably your best bet. You can pick it up for $670 shipped from Totalelectronics.com
