Got the Tower hooked up and played some movie trailers and music. It definately meets my expectations. I now realize how bad my old cerwin vega speakers are. I tried to run REW but I am having some issues. Hopefully I can get them resolved and posts some graphs. I can't wait to add 2 MBMs to the mix and run Audessey.

As for comparing the Tower to the PB12/plus 2, the Tower is basically better all around. Not that the PB is bad by any means but the Tower....THE TOWER.

I think I was the one who asked for your comments, and thanks for posting. I don't have any room for an MBM, but I imagine if you added an EQ to the sub to flatten out room responses with REW, and toying with room placement you'd be just as well off as with the MBM in your system.

I was fortunate and got a hold of Karen at Epik on the phone and she was able to get Chad for me. He was a friendly guy, very down to earth. He spent a good half hour on the phone with me discussing my questions and I think he's a class act. I do agree that they could use more help, though, so they could spend more time in communication with customers. Overall, I was left with a very good impression. Chad was extremely helpful in assisting me filter through my options without pushing me to purchase a larger sub than he thought I could appreciate based on my needs.

I spoke to Chad once on the phone after I had bought my sub, and the conversation was rushed, and it was about 30 seconds long. Sounds like he is good pre-sales, but not as good post-sales.

Hmm, it's possible I just got really lucky and caught him at a good time too. I will admit that it took him at least a few days to respond to the two e-mails I sent him. The products seem great - I just hope that if I were to have an issue with a sub that I'd be able to get a hold of them and have things resolved.

i've had two major issues and both have been resolved. everything was documented on here by me but they had always been good about getting stuff fixed.

Unless the website is inaccurate, it's going to be $145 to ship to me and I live 1 state away.

I called Epik last week around 2pm central time and Karen answered after 2 or 3 rings. I had a simple question about shipping and Karen directed me to Chad. I agree he is helpful and is a very nice guy!

The Knight is 115 lbs and the Tower is 130 lbs so I would expect differences in shipping costs. Also back in January the cost of diesel wasn't what it is now so prices have increased to ship things quite a bit since then.

My Tower cost $149 to ship to Texas just last month.

Epik left me a message yesterday after all. So it took them a few days but they did respond. Just thought I'd say that out of fairness.
I guess it is just the luck of the draw. I was able to get ahold of Chad twice in one week but I had to make alot of calls before he answered.

I order the B-Stock Castle that was available. Sounds like it was minor damage and a $200 savings. Can't wait to test it out is the new home theater.

Thanks for all the valuable info on this forum and this thread especially!

sounds like a great deal. when is it suppose to ship?
you should be starting to get excited soon?

Well I did it. Just ordered a Castle. I have a feeling in a month or so my poor little room won't know what hit it

Congrats man! Welcome to the family! Speaking from experience with my Tower in a room that's about 7-8x more cubic volume than yours I can adequately say that you will be blown away. I am and my room is much much larger

Hello all,

Earlier in this thread (I believe) someone posted a a list of good HT films with initials. Something like: TFM = Transformers, and so on. Can you point me to that post?

Well there's the huge sticky thread about movies with bass...just making sure you aren't referring to that.

Congrats...you're gonna implode with that monster in your space. Time to start thinking about mains that will keep up...I'm sure you'll be getting 125dbs + with room/boundary gain.

Thanks. Yep, "blown away" is exactly what I'm aiming for. I'm through with upgrading in little steps. I wanted something that would rock my world and make me not want/need to upgrade for a LONG time, so I figured the Castle might work well .

You're gonna love the Castle... You do have a rough idea of the size, right? Just saying that dimensions on a web page really don't give a good impression of the size.

Thanks, Ron. I don't think I'm going to run it anywhere near its limits - if I hit 125dB in my room I think my family will evict me! The two PB10's kept up pretty well for the most part, but I could tell they couldn't cut it with massive, short term LFE hits or in really deep <25hz scenes (think WOTW pods emerging). The highest I measured in my room with my RS SPL meter (C-weighted/fast) was about 113dB. I'd highly doubt I'll take things more than 10dB higher than I already have! Headroom is the name of the game to me. I should have quite a bit of it, and that will translate into lower distortion. I might set my crossover to 100hz to relieve a bit more stress from my mains - I'll have to experiment and see what works best. Anyway, I appreciate the support, and I'll be sure to give my impressions once it gets here. Now begins the torture of spending a month or longer with NO sub

Yep, I stacked my two PB10's which ended up larger in some dimensions (height and width - I stacked them on their sides) and smaller in others (depth), so I have a good idea of what to expect.

Jeez, Lalakers, hadn't seen that thread. It's incredible. Thanks.

No sub(s)? Sell them already? Fwiw I ordered a Valor 3 weeks 2 days ago and it ships tomorrow. I wanted a Castle but no room. If I like the Valor I'm gonna get another.
hmmm the mfw-15 does not like my room. i just cant get it to sound very good after all. i'm tempted to, and likely will, try a Castle after all also mfw-15 has an annoying hum that i've never experienced with any other sub

i did a bazillion REW measurements. this was the best location. 80xo, no mbm-12, no mains.

(of course these graphs don't tell the story about compression/output, which from my extended listening the mfw-15 blows away the pb10)

no EQ of either sub; actually these graphs of the mfw-15 aren't bad come to think of it: i can eq the peaks; the dips are just a couple of dbs, so no biggie i suppose

MFW-15

SVS PB-10

MFW with mains and MBM-12

It shipped today, it was already boxed up and waiting to ship to a loving home. So I guess not having to wait long, coupled with the $200 savings is a good dang thing.

Looking forward to watching my first movie with it, now I have to decide which one!

That doesn't look too bad at all. Adjust your target line up ~3-5dB and you're really very close. You'll just need to EQ in a couple of spots, and not more than 3-4dB. I think it looks just fine. Now, the MFW-15's hum could be annoying...does it sound like a ground loop? If so I think there are some solutions that have been found on the AV123 subwoofer thread.
yeah it sounds like a ground loop. and yeah that graph is not bad the more i look at it. i really was hoping to go with just the mfw-15 (and return the mbm) but the damn midbass is just way too boomy with the mfw. in other words, to get the volume with the mfw that i get with the two subs together, the mfw alone then starts to sound boomy - if that makes sense. whereas together it's a much tighter sound, probably because the mbm is practically under my butt why am i posting all this here? i don't even own an Epik lol

btw, one thing that surprised me about the mfw - and i'm not trying to sell anyone on the sub because what do i care; besides i love epik from the little i've heard - anyways what surprised me was the finish. i only got satin black and it looks fantastic and silky smooth. so it definitely beats my pb10, the mbm, and the caliber in that area. i'm sure the other woodlike finishes look even more impressive.

look how sad my svs looks next to it goodbye buddy, you did your best for so many years (sniffle)

Aww, poor little guy. I just said goodbye to BOTH of mine today *sniff*. I think I'll be happy in the long run, but dang this next month is gonna be tough with no sub!
