Thanks for the good insight and information - helpful. It's just so hard comparing subs that are only available online and specs and woofer size just don't tell the whole story. That's why I appreciate feedback from owners of these subs and why they chose a particular model or a particular brand.
The Dragon didn't make my top 3 list on the Epik side of the coin. I've got a very short list for both Epik and Elemental Designs. I started my Epik list with the Phoenix, I guess based more on it being ported and probably a better fit for home theater, but the Dragon and Phoenix seem very similiar, with the Phoenix being slightly larger, heavier and ever so slightly deeper in the bass?
The Phoenix is one sub that I think I could buy one of and then maybe 6 months later buy a second one and not feel that I'm not getting great bass and then having a 2nd one would probably be the ultimate in most categories for bass. The only other 2 subs on my Epik list are the Dynasty and the Conquest.
If I was just going for one sub, then I can't imagine a better sub than the Conquest. I gather from the views on this thread and the review that one of these subs should handle anything. Also, even though it would be awesome to have two, it might be unpractical for this sub.
However, the Dynasty seems like it would be awesome as well by itself but there is room for consideration to get dual Dynasty's. If I go with two, then I'm feeling the wiser choice would be 2 Phoenix's. I could afford 2 of the Dynasty subs but if I'm only going with one sub, then I'd have to say "Conquest". If two subs, then "Phoenix" with a slight opening for two "Dynasty" subs.
Reading the specs, weight, dimensions, I don't see much that separates the Phoenix from the Dynasty, but then again, this where I would have no clue without auditioning them and looking at their size in person.
I think Gov's advice is probably right on target if I'm going to get 2 subs. So if I stay with 2 sub strategy and I go with Epik, then it's probably the Phoenix.
On the other side of the coin is Elemental Design and trying to figure out what ED's subs have to offer over Epik subs and I have my very short list for ED as well. It's hard when both Epik and ED are the 2 highest rated subs on "Craigsubs" as well. So far, ED has a couple of similar subs, but at a higher price, but with free shipping.
ED's A7-900 is the highest ranked sub according to Craigsubs with dual 18" drivers but at $2200 and 435lbs, that's a definite one sub purchase. ED's other similar sub configuration that would compete with the Phoenix/Dynasty is the A7-450; larger and with a 1300 watt amp, but the specs don't seem to be any more different than Epiks two. Higher priced, but again free shipping.
