Is that peak volumes or continuous??

idk, they were just hypothetical numbers.

Why not measure it a foot from the sub?

It inflates the numbers too much. Usually one measures from the LP indoors to give you an idea of where your sub's limits are and to find out it's capability.

I was just joshing graphicsguy, didn't mean to open a can of worms. I've heard the Phoenix and it will go loud. Louder than most of us need.

I've done reference tests in my room, but my room is too small for that volume except of just a few movies. Phantom of the Opera and Ironman both sound awesome at reference at my place.

That would be peaks...

LOL! Yeah, I'm making a date with Cloverfield that I'll hit triple digits for SPL. Also add in some redbook CDs.

While I was jumping around with the other disks, trying to find the biggest, baddest, low end booms, I did finally settle down and watched "Knowing" last night all the way through. Have to say, from a dynamics standpoint, the Phoenix made up for a good portion of my enjoyment of that BD.

I'm not a huge Nicholas Cage fan (at least not in the last several years), but he did good in this movie. Good story, told well.....a bit of creepiness (also where the Phoenix added a healthy dose of "jumpinees"). Ending was a bit....well....strange, but so was the entire movie.

I'm getting into lower reaches of LFE that I've never experienced before with the Phoenix.

i know what you mean. my Sentinel is the most capable subwoofer i have had so far and it's awesome when you hear and feel things you never have before in both music and movies.

How much of a difference is the phoenix to the castle

Hopefully these pictures can give you an idea of the size of this beatiful subwoofer.. To preface; my wife thought I bought her a new dishwasher when she saw the box..

I have some tweaking to do, and I may hold off until I receive the second one to do a review as I am coming from a Plus/2 and a 10K cu ft rm to fill.. However I can say the bass is very clean and tight with much more mid-upper base..

Place dirty dishes in front of speaker, crank it up for 2 hours. Dirt will be vibrated off of dishes. Now you both got what you wanted.

That would be an interesting comparison shot that I'd love to see. Hope the Phoenix serves you well.

Congrat's on the sub. I am debating between adding a second Ultra or switching to a pair of Phoenix's so I am looking forward to your impressions.

I don't think any owners have heard both - at least not here on AVS. The best way for you to find out is to e-mail Chad at Epik and see what he says.

That's interesting in itself. Keep listening. Many Epik owners note that the sub opens up after some break in time. That driver is extremely stiff. I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't like to get beat on a bit.

These subs love abuse. Everytime I push the sub, it gets louder and hits harder. I have not reached the limits of the Dragon. The only limit was my ears.

Just to give a heads up to Canadians, others Canucks in this thread were able to order from Epik but I contacted them and was told that they no longer ship to Canada. I guess they must have changed their policy.

Back to the drawing board I guess.

Funny, until I started perusing these bass threads, if someone had spoken of a dual sub setup, I would have been like WTF for. I will admit the aesthetics of having a sub by each of the fronts is appealing. Never mind the balance and volume benefits. Provided things are still good in the Spring (money and job wise), I will probably work on talking the wife into letting me get another one.

You know to even the room out and everything. I can hear it now..."It looks strange being asymmetrical like that. I think I should get another one." I'll probably have to come up with something better than that, but we shall see.

I just returned my Dragon, and I am awaiting a replacement sub, but I can tell you, as someone who has never had dual subs, both of the REAL variety, and it is everything they say it is....

They just loaf along till you need a peak and BAM! there you are, balanced tight bass with no overhang.

Dual subs are the Fountain of Youth, the Lost world of Atlantis, and Aztec Gold all rolled into one idyllic creation.

What are you replacing it with?

Not sure if I follow you. The Dragon is a good sub but your returning it for duals?

I am trading up to the phoenix, seems my HT needs outweigh my musical tastes...

Epik customer service is head and shoulders above anything else I have dealt with in a LONG TIME.

WOOHOOO!!! Placed my order for the Phoenix earlier today.....now the countdown has begun until delivery, I am grinning already. The beast has been summoned!

so what are they doing for ya? giving you the full price back and putting it towards the upgrade minus shipping or what? i would totally expect most companies to charge a restock fee in this case. just curious.

I'm a very happy customer (Sentinel) and follow this thread pretty much daily. . .It's good to see such an active thread with little to no drama. . .others could learn a thing or two. . .(. . .hopes he doesn't jinx things . . .)

Yeah, duals are attractive and I am thinking of adding another Sentinel after Christmas. . .but I have also been thinking of moving the Sentinel to my bedroom music setup and stuffing a Pheonix or even a Dynasty in its place.
