The coasters def helped after all, just demo'd Master and Commander, 112db uncorrected at listening position, all I ask for basically.

Same thing with the 2nd chapter Transformers...112db uncorrected at the LP with zero distress.......

I feel the system is right where it needs to be.......Phoenix is a bad boy......

Can you set the 606 to show reference? I have a number scale that goes to 72...

running 55 on rcvr and -4 LFE outs...both gains about 11 o'clock...

oh, it doesn't do it like most receivers huh? i was just curious.

i watched Master and Commander at -10 with my Sentinel about 1-2db hot. it was pretty damn loud but i never whipped out the meter to see what kind of numbers i was hearing.

Right now it is the top sub. The Conquest appears to be on hold indefinitely. It isn't officially discontinued, but I think Chad's trying to figure out another amp (the new line doesn't use Indigo BASH amps) and/or possibly working out a redesign.

I recently sold my Servo 15 (ver1) and am looking for a replacement for a large (7000 cubic feet) family room. 70% HT and tv and 30% music...I had not heard of Epik until recently and noticed the Dragon and Phoenix...can anyone give me some feedback on either of these compared to my old Servo 15 and how they compare to each other? I am also considering a SVS, although I have not personally heard those either...thanks for the help!

I will be taking delivery of my Phoenix tomorrow, I did have the Velo f1500 (circa 1998) and can post up my impressions of the two. I actually have access to my old sub still so if I can talk the new owner into letting me borrow it back I will do an A/B.
Thanks partner...you are in CB, huh? I grew up and lived in Bellevue for 26 years until I moved out East about 10 years ago
post #8500 of 19476
Yeah I do, I also realize that you are probably talking about the Paradigm servo 15 and not the Velodyne my bad... I'll still give my impressions on the Phoenix.

I haven't heard the Servo-15 but I also believe in subwoofer physics, bigger is better.

With 7,000 cu. ft. a Dynasty would be your best option in the Epik lineup. You would want duals of the Dragon or Phoenix in your size room. The Dragon would definitely not get a recommend from me in that size space. Sealed in 7,000 cu. ft. would be tough to pressurize even a little bit.

+1

7K cuft is a pretty large room. A bigger sub like the Dynasty would satisfy most if thelistening position is pretty close to the sub. 2 would seal the deal, but lets take baby steps first .
i'm gonna vote dynasty as well.
For what it's worth up until a week or two ago I was running a single Tower in about 6,000 cu. ft. and getting some decent impact at the listening position but no pressurization. The Dynasty and Tower compare very favorably with the slight nod going to the Dynasty. It is the next generation anyway. I really wanted more sub in that room and probably should have been running dual Castles or Towers. Luckily I just moved into a much smaller theater room in a new house! Haven't had enough time in that room with it but it's definitely much better.

How would dual Phoenix's compare with a single Dynasty?

As Chad stated, dual Phoenix has more output than a single Conquest. The Dynasty has less power and less cabinet area than the Conquest.

I got the Phoenix today after only a 12 day wait from order to door step! First let me say that I was taken aback by the size of the box, I knew it would be big but damn! Chad has really done a fine job of making sure that Fedex looks good in delivering an un damaged product.

As you can see he really has done a fine job of padding this beast of a sub.

I was also a bit suprised by the size of the ports on the bottom of the sub, Man they don't look as big as they really are in all the pictures I have seen online!!

After I did a few minor adjustments to the AVR and wrangled the sub into it's resting place I fired it up. Man what a performer! I have my speakers all set to the 80hz THX cross over setting and all channels are for the moment set to +/-0 db, The sub is set to / volume and the cross over is set as close to the 80hz setting as I can get it. the phase is at 0. I popped in a few stand by's to test the sub and I am simply speechless by the performance this thing has! Man I know it will only get better as I fine tune it and the room. For now I am one extremely happy customer and here is a photo to prove it.

As time and setup/ tweaking this sub goes by I'll try to update my impressions. I might even be able to do a couple of side by side comparisons.
Thanks Chad for an awesome product!
Steve

Congratulations.

Using the "LFE" input on the subwoofer amp bypasses the internal crossover.

LOL well color me stupid, I didn't realize that! I was kinda wondering why it didn't really seem to make much of a difference.
Thanks for the heads up.
I thought the "crossover" input was for an external xover. must be just the opposite then?

If you use your pre-pro's, or AVR's sub pre-out connection to the LFE in of the Phoenix, then all crossover duty is done by the pre-pro/AVR. By definition, since you're using "THX small speaker" setting, then your crossover is set at 80Hz. The crossover's in the Phoenix are not functional in that scenario.

Nice. Good thing you had it set correctly...lol. btw, in cb450r, is that a quad or dirtbike?

Isn't there an ATV thread you can discuss all of the above?!? This is a subwoofer thread.
