I say dual sentinals or pull the trigger on either the Phoenix or Dragon and if you need more after that point think about adding another one at some point down the road. Either way you really can't loose with these choices.

Anyone know how long the Sentinels are on sale? I could not get an answer today by e-mail or telephone to Epik. Thanks.

Wow...! So many people voiced a desire for a Phoenix sale, and the daul Phoenix's are still out on the classified section.. I'll break them up if people are only interested in one.. I was thinkn' someone's gettn' a heak of a deal.. Yet the Sentinel seems to be the hot item anyway.. Who knew..

People are scared of the 18's bro. I know if I had money to burn I would buy your 2 to go with my one and just put one in different corners. I think you will be better splitting them up. See if Chad will take them back for his "B" stock. You might get what you are asking for them with that. Just thinking out loud as usual.

I think the non-transferable warranty also scares off some people. Not that Epic has a reputation for poor goods, but one has to weigh the value of a used product with the chances of running into some kind of future problem.

If I didn't just get the dynasty I would want one or both but there are no more subwoofer funds for a very long time and when I do it will be an earthquake transducer.

Well I got this message from Karen @ Epik this evening:

Quote:

We do not have an end date for the sale at this time. We imagine it will be going on for at least another week or two.

Looks like the sale on Sentinel and Vanquish 12" subs will be on for at least another week or so. Two weeks to process and ship.

I was responding to "Output would take a back seat to sound quality."

The superior sound quality might not be noticed as "all" models sound exceptional!

The Epik Dragon

"The Dragon is quite capable down low when compared to other sealed subwoofers on the market. It is an extremely musical subwoofer and was created for those who care more about quality than quantity. It has very low distortion and sounds extremely clean on any source material."

lol, how are you going to fool the wife this time? Or did you come clean and get approval this time?

Could someone explain between SEALED and Ported Sub and which to buy for a speaker system?

i have a phoenix on the way and was wondering - where are guys setting your gain knob starting out? and did you have to make any significant adjustments? and how was the setup process, generally speaking? one more thing - what about break in.... can you blast away right from the get go? or should you go moderate for a while?

A good starting point is the knob around 10 o'clock. Don't worry about breaking in, just fire away!!!!!!

Depends on size of your room and sub. In small bedroom systems a single sub will work OK and if the area is large, duals can help with more output.

my room is 15 wide by 16 long and opens up to a big kitchen in the back. non flat ceiling that's angled. a hallway to the right. looking at my room i have only three places for subs. two in the front between the tall jbl's and tv stand and next to the couch. i did the measuring for a phoenix and it would barely fit next to the couch. too big i'm guessing. i like the sentinel but in some ways i feel lower a few hz would be sweeter. the av123 thing is my only other option with the size limits i have. i know everyone says to have two subs that are the same. like having the same speakers for timbre matching etc.

Ok, I would go with a second Sentinal. Call or email Chad and see if you can get a price as you already have one. May be he will give a a second sale pirce on it. Put both up front, or one in front and the other next to the couch. Also, get a sub EQ like a Anti Mode 8033, SMS-1, or EQ2. If you really want to tinker with it all, get a BFD.

There is a little bit of irony here, (his user name).

Sorry, I couldn't resist as well.

What I meant was the way he wrote that it seemed he was a bit disappointed...I'm well aware of what dual means.

The "Sharp" moniker was actually something I thought up because when I first joined this forum, I came here looking for information on Sharp televisions. I had a 25" tube that had proved to be quite durable...survived a 3 or 4 foot fall off the bed and worked for quite a few years after that.

Of course I bought one of their newer LCDs a year or two ago and experienced the banding, and it went back to the store. After that I picked up an XBR4, and back in January an XBR8. I guess I should rename myself SonyOne now.

No need to explain yourself. It's good to see someone who
can take a joke, as it was all for kicks. Take care.

Can anyone please tell me if the Epik Sentinels have a Phase knob and a crossover knob on the back of the amps? I might want to set the crossover of my duals that i'm anxiously awaiting for at different frequencies. Thanks.
Yes, the sentinel has a crossover knob which is variable starting from 40Hz. However it only has a phase switch 0/180. No variable phase there.
