What doesn't fit to me, is the fast motion shots, for example the sunrises. Visually, they don't fit with the 3 films, which did have slow motion sequences in them. The pilot episode also had a grainy low angle shot where after flipping the bus teacher terminator jumps on it. The rest of the episode was pretty sharp.

Actually, I noticed several scenes in the Pilot that were grainy, mostly towards the beginning of the episode. This appears to be the director's choice, and not a jab at Fox's HD quality, to represent certain sequences as grainy.

The CBS drama, Shark, uses a similar technique when showing flashbacks to the crime that the trial in the episode is about, to signify to the audience that "this is a different type of scene".

Not to say I'm a fan of this, of course.

Right. It obviously had flesh to pass the portal, and what was left (after the barbeque) was simply removed by vermin and other natural processes. We can let this go now.

Well, steering closer to the topic, but still contributing nothing of substance: Potential names for "Cameron," as portrayed by Summer Glau:

T-Babe
Hot-T
Swee-T

Terminettear, or T-ette for short

With lines like that, it's no wonder. Classic.

My favorite so far is Terminatrix.

Between that and his earlier role in Wierd Science, I couldn't take him seriously as a lead drama actor (Twister, Titanic) until Big Love.

When it was flying out of the portal it was completely clean. Possibly when it got thrown from the bubble it burned off there? The outside was supposedly extremely hot as you could tell from the movies with the stuff melting, sand turning to glass, etc. Gives a little incentive to stay put and not run out too fast

For most of his career Paxton's specialty seemed to be playing slightly unaware, not very smart guys (consider A Simple Plan). I agree that Big Love changed all that.

Oh - and I forgot True Lies. That just reinforced the typecast.

Kinda funny how Bill Paxton gets beat-up by Arnold in Terminator, and in True Lies. Gotta feel for the guy. But his part in True Lies was one of the funniest parts of the movie.

I dunno 'bout that. Getting married to 3 woman at the same time and considering a fourth doesn't seem too terribly smart. Same ol' Bill, seems to me.

Guess he's a loyal guy.

In honor of Beihn and Cameron, I busted out The Abyss on DVD last night. I forgot that the movie was 3 hours long. Maybe this weekend I'll run through all three Terminator films. I need to borrow/rent Aliens, as well, since I watched AvP last week.

was it the directors cut? because that's like an extra 20 minutes with the original ending.

Some pretty cool special effects got sh*tcanned for the theatrical version.

The Abyss needs to be released on HD media!
Just the exterior underwater shots alone cry for hi-def

Showing CPR in high definition could save lives.

Welcome to my neighborhood! (Check my location ID)

What's amazing is that the writers of Big Love got so very many of the intricate details of the show correct...right down to the description of business matters. I see some of the people that show was "loosely based on" every few days.*

*None of them are as entertaining as Paxton.

Anyway, back on topic, how about T-"58008" for the new Terminator? They could have the model number stamped upside-down in her cleavage, ala the old calculator gag.

There isn't even an anamorphic DVD of The Abyss yet.

I settle for a decent anamorphic SD DVD. I made the prediction in another thread somewhere that a good DVD as well as a Blu Ray would be out about the time of Cameron's Avatar.

Okay, I just watched Tuesday's ep off of the DVR. Most of the nits everyone has been talking about, I can live with. But the head controlling the body by remote control is just too much!

I'd say that happened before Big Love maybe with Twister, but definitely with Frailty, which he starred in and directed.

Yeah, I noticed. I hadn't seen it since I had the old 27" 4:3 TV. I had to "zoom" on my HDTV to get the aspect ratio correct. I think the original DVD of The 5th Element suffered the same fate.

Don't forget Paxton as a psycho vampire in 'Near Dark'. Another good one was 'One False Move' where he played a hick sheriff dealing with LA detectives chasing a killer. Pretty good under-the-radar flick from the early 1990's.

That was just on one of the HD movie channels (HBO, HDNet, etc). I remember seeing it and looking it up in my movie book to see if it was worth DVRing.

Bill will ALWAYS be known as the quivering "Game over, maaaan! Game over!" Private Hudson though.
