Looking for MAPLE floorstanders and matching center channel under $3k

Hello,

I'm looking for a pair of maple floorstanding speakers and matching center channel in the $2500-$3000 range. I like bass so floorstanding speakers capable of sub 30 HZ output is ideal.

Thanks in advance for your replies!

How about putting some towards a sub if you like bass?

A sub will be part of the package.

B&W CM Series featured in maple. SVS Subs also in maple. Around your budget for 2.0 or 2.1.

Then why the need for bass below 30hz from the mains? That will be tough to do well given your budget, many of the choices I would give you for OVERALL SQ would rolloff closer to 40.
If you haven't yet heard a sub that you think is good enough to play with music, I can understand, many sacrifice SQ for depth or output, but there are musical subs out there, what are you leaning towards?

I'm leaning towards Dynaudio 72's, and most likely an SB-12 Plus from SVS. I've heard the 72's at a buddies house and really liked their balance. Their specifications state a frequency response of 28Hz to 24kHz +/- 3dB and their sound supports that. Since they're more than I was looking to spend in the first place I figured I would see what else is out there. The CM7's and CM Centre from B&W is a good suggestion, but I have yet to audition them.

Personally I love speakers with soft dome tweeters.. I recommend that you check out:

Totem Acoustic Sttaf, Mite-T-C (upcharge for Maple)
Vienna Acoustics Bach Grand (and Center, Maple available)
and lastly the DynAudio speakers you mentioned.

Good Luck.

Have you had a look at the JBL Studio L Series? They are available in Beech and it looks very similar to Maple.

Online and on ebay, the L890's with an LC2 center can be had for about $1,200 for all 3 speakers.

Did you look into Talyor Acoustics? Great product that is fully customizable, including finish. I think he has over 75 at this point.

Dynaudio is excellent in plumbing the depths, surprisingly so even with their smaller monitor speakers. Obviously a note of disclosure since I own and very much like Dynaudio speakers myself. I hold B&W in high regard, though I don't think they would fit your preference for bass since B&W is generally pretty thin in that department. They are articulate with bass, but they are generally thin. Some other speakers may have more in the bass department (like Paradigm) but may be less tight and controlled. Dynaudio hits kind of the best of both, getting surprising amounts of bass out of even small speakers, without getting soft and squishy and loose.

But as always, audition widely.

Thanks Chris. The reviews I've read of the Dynaudio Audience 72's indicate a vinyl veneer. The reviews are from 2001 so I'm not sure if this still holds true. Have they stepped up to wood veneers?

Great speakers but your not going to get that kind of bass extension out of them, that's why I was wondering about the sub. A really articulate sub that plays loud and deep isn't going to be cheap, I prefer sealed designs and usually with servo controls.

They may be older reviews, I think the audience line used to have vinyl finish, as far as I know all the current audience speakers use real wood veneer. They look quite nice in my opinion, however I don't take aesthetics into consideration of purchase choice, it's all sound for me.

The current Audience series uses a very high quality real Maple wood veneer as well as the real Cherry wood, Black Ash and Rosewood.

I will second the Dynaudio Audience 72 and Dynaudio Audience 122C recommendation. They will keep you at your budget, and they will be about the only speaker in that price range that will give you real usable bass in the 30-40hz region without a subwoofer.

Magnus, I have just posted pictures in the speakers for sale section.

Already spoke to Eric at SVS. Those are not going to be available in Maple for some time.

I am adding Salk and Tyler Acoustic as potential candidates as well.

Another to consider is RBH 1266-SE or SE/R. Great speakers with the bass extension you're looking for plus you get one of the finest finishes available from a larger speaker manufacturer (not including folks like Jim Salk whose finish is really on a different level You can get the RBH in Maple, Maple Pommele or if you prefer Figured Maple,... or one of 27 other hardwood veneers.

Me,.. I just went with Black Oak cause sound was a higher priority for me. I have seen most of their other veneers though and they are very nice.

Thanks for the referral. Unfortunately the MSRP on the 1266 is $4149 and the smaller 1044 is $2899. I'm sure they are great but I doubt I'll stretch that much when there's so many nice options in my price range.

Ah,... didn't know they were that much now.
