PS/PS2 upscaling horrible

The upscaling of PS/PS2 games is absolutely terrible, in my opinion. The built in scaler of my JVC TV can't be that amazing, but I saw a massive increase of clarity and sharpness after turning off the upscaling with a game like Castlevania. With upscaling on, it almost looks like the game was resized a couple of times, with a blur filter then applied.

What do you guys think?

Man you should have seen those games when the PS3 came out (maybe you did). Horrible was how they looked back then.

Now upscaling works just fine on my side.

So far I've been impressed with upscaling overall.

The upscaler needs a way to enable anti-aliasing in games. Not just blur everything.

Did you try upscaling with the smoothing filter off? They're two seperate options.

Anti-aliasing is done while rendering an image, no scaler can change that after the fact.

Yes, smoothing is turned off.

However, it seems that PS2 games always look horrible on the PS3, regardless of whether or not it's upscaled. I only see a dramatic difference with PS1 titles.

Hopefully Sony can improve the de-interlacing (which I am certain is the cause), or allow 480i output through HDMI (not sure if that is even possible).
