Looking HD DVD player with 720P TV

Hi all,

I'm searching of an HD DVD player for my 50" 720P Plasma HDTV. My budget is not to go over $300 (so i guess Blu-ray is out of my budget). I'm not in a real hurry. I've read quite a few of threads here about A2 model. I would love to have the best sound over video. With that in mind, what players would you guys/gals recommend for the best sound quality and not going over $300 (if I wait, I might have more players to choose from with that budget?). I guess if I'm to buy it now. I'll only have A2, A1 models to choose given the budget range.

I saw that the 3rd gen players coming out as well. Should I wait?

Well they all have the same soudn quality if you;re connecting via HDMI. In which chase i'd happily recomend you get the Toshiba HD-A2.

If you need analoge (RCA) audio connectors because you amp is old then the A1/XA1 would be the ones to go for.

If I were you, I'd wait to get the new A3 coming out next month at $299:

If you want something now, the A2 is still a great deal, but doesn't look as sexy as the new models.

Thanks for your input. Currently, I have an old receiver that doesn't have HDMI connections. I'll probably upgrade that to an HDMI receiver during the XMas period.

This darn hobby waste so much time... First, it took me a couple months to buy the HDTV... Now, it looks like I will need another couple months to research for the hd dvd players... damn...

I guess I'm just too poor for this hobby...

That's a nice looking player. What are the advantages of the new A3 over the A2?

Al,

I can gurantee you that A2s would probably go for $149 within a month. Get an A2, you only have a 720P HDTV. Upgrade when you upgrade your TV.

Yes, there is the sexiness.

Wow... $150 and I'D have a seriously difficult time not wasting money on a 2nd player I might not need. Good think I'm living in Korea, and there are only about 5 HD-DVDs for sale here.

$150 is a night out for beer and a nice dinner in Seoul.

That's a bold statement. You must have inside information that isn't available to me. Are you prepared to back that up, if the market prices don't support your guarantee? I'll buy a dozen from you at that price.

Mike
