Is it a sign? New speakers

The tweeter in one of my Polk Audio Monitor 60's blew today when I made the switch from some jazz to a little Iron Maiden. Instead of replacing the speaker, I think I will use this as a chance to upgrade.

I need some awesome speakers in the 1500-2000 range. I have a Rotel RB-1080 amp fed from an Onkyo 703 receiver. I am a two channel guy however (no surround speakers) but I like the ease of using a sub here. Monitors will be fine since I will use a sub. What are some monitors with great upper detail that can put out some LOUD volume, I don't want to blow these too.

Also, things I have been looking at have been Totem's Model 1 or other speakers, Sonus Faber Domus and used Monitor Audio Gold Series towers.

You'll have to find them used but Altec Model Nineteens were monitors with extreme clarity and dynamics and the ability to play up around 120db. I found mine for under $1000 and they're generally on ebay under $2000.
