Please stop scaring people with that $4500 dollar crap.

....But that's the thing, you got to chance it with online orders.
No way to return it if there's a defect.
Just look at the XBR2 & 3 LCD's, massive backlight clouding & people who bought online were stuck with them as Sony would not repair that defect.

I own an XBR3 and am interested if the PC/VGA on the XBR4 runs at 120Hz. I tried out a 120Hz Sharp D-92 against my XBR3 and it would only do 60Hz on the PC input.

Also. I compared sports between the 60Hz XBR3 and the 120Hz D-992 to see how each handled motion blur. Having the two TVs side by side, the first event I checked out was a chess tourni and there was no dif - same with skiing and Hockey. The Sharp was a bit of a slacker, compared to the XBR3 but I'd like to get a XBR4/5 for the other room if it measures up.

Also, can you smoke H? I thought you had to snort it like pot.

For the people who already ordered it, when is your expected delivery date, ie when can we expect some pics and a review

Where? WHERE? Not only did I not know that the KDL52XBR4 was even available yet, I didn't know you could get it for that low of a price! Which store? Is it reputable? Is it on-line only? Thanks!

I need something to watch now though!

And by this time next year, it will be 1K less after the 8 months price...

8 months? Probably more like 3-4 months.

And then manufacturers will be rolling out OLEDs and LCDs will be outdated. A good time to buy a TV is...never.

We're all pretty informed people on this forum. But, like me, I would guess that we are forgetting that these televisions are basically large monitored PCs. And in that light, like PCs, the time to buy is when you find the one that fits your needs.

Tomorrow will ALWAYS bring a newer, "better," more features, etc. unit. PCs have been doing that for years. Now TVs are doing the same.

I was ready to buy the V2500. Then the V/W/XBR4 future features set information was released. I liked what I saw so I waited. But I will buy one as soon as the dust (price) settles.

(Remember, way back in the '60s or '70s, IBM was forbidden from pre-releasing information on future products because they affected the competition. We're doing it to ourselves again.)

Don't mean to be too philosophical.

What I hear about the XBR4/5 is what I want and I won't be waiting too much longer.

I called my SonyStyle store again today to see if I got a different story. They are now saying late-September again.

They don't believe the 8/13 date on the web site (they brought it up) and think it's an error.

I called as well...

*Begin Rant*

SonyStyle.com and it's Reps are worthless.
If its not on the website, they are clueless. CLUELESS.

That if why I refuse to buy from them.
I will take my chances with a (Gasp) online merchant.

I'm not as fearful as some of you.
As long as you shop a large name brand online merchant... you'll be fine.

It's 2007 people! You can't shop your local Sears and WalMart's forever.
I guarantee that if my shiny new KDL-52XBR4 LCD TV is damaged when I open it up, my online merchant CDW.COM will swap it out with a new one.

Seriously. They do that.

* End Rant *

You're absolutely right. If it's from a Sony Authorized Online Dealer it's even better. Some retail stores (gasp!) will match prices with the prices from authorized online dealers.

I'm waiting for the XBR4. I wanted the XBR5 at first, but I think I can live without the Rs232, additional 6mo mfg warranty and the piano black frame from the XBR5.

Besides, save a few duckies for chuckie in the process!
(Nutty, where are you?)

Keep in mind that buying from online retailers for some manufacturers is easier than others. Sony honors warranties and even allows you to buy extended warranties directly from sonystyle.com from non-authorized online retailers as long as the purchase is documented with a printed receipt and is new-in-box.

Other manufacturers (I think Samsung or maybe Panasonic...or maybe another one, can't remember) only honors their warranties from authorized dealers.

Obviously this doesn't always matter if you can buy a warranty from the online retailer, but I've had very good experience with Sony's warranty service in the past so it is a pretty big deal for me.

Not Samsung. Perhaps Toshiba is what you have in mind.

Looking for remarks about the MotionFlow...and if its a true improvement or modest gain. Does it introduce flaws?
Hey guys, I need some advice, I am looking to the 40" XBR4 and BB is listing it at $2,799. But I also have a 12% coupon for TVs at BB which will bring the price down to $2,463, and the coupon expires at the end of this month

So should I jump on this deal or wait?

Hi,

Has anyone tried feeding 24Hz input from a Blu-ray player to these babies? Is the 120Hz used for 5:5 pulldown, or is it a 6:4 via an intermediate 60Hz step (or 3:2 plus interpolated frames)?

thanks

Yesterday, BB/Magnolia had the 52XBR4 delivery date at August 27. Today, it was August 31.

Expected date for this model is slipping, not getting closer, which makes me not believe the Sony web site (just as SonyStyle stores do not)...

The XBR2 was silver, but the XBR4 is a dull black, and the XBR5 is a glossy black
post #87 of 955
Hi there,

First post on this forum so please be gentle even it sounds like dull questions.

Actually I'm french and have already posted my queries on the AV UK forum but I was thinking that I will get more advice from you guys, you are gonna understand why.....

I can't post the link to my query because it's my first post but I'm after the equivalent models of XBR4/XBR5 TVs here in Japan where I live.

I assume the following:

XBR4 is X2500 here in Japan

XBR5 is X2550

Please help me to figure out if I'm correct or not

Alos can someone confirm that there is no chance to use a NTSC TV in Europe? I guess some of you you guys have experienced this when thinking about moving to Europe?

Any views would be appreciated

Many thanks in advance

Olivier

Plerase Don't print false information in a thread that should produce happiness for many for years to come, Sure te OLED will destroy something but they are know as plasma killers, not LCD LCD will be using the OLED technology and arts until OLED can be more comsumer friendly in their price points.

If you want to wait, so be it to eaches own but there have been millions that have been able to enjoy the HD experiences for the past 5 years and I don't think the majority HOLDS ANY DEEP REGRET. By not waiting

delays are a good thing when it comes to electronics. They might have had a component that did fire up on th last test or mamybe something simple as labeling the boxes wrong. Either way a delay can help us more then anything else.
