You stream through lan (your connection inside of your room), not thru internet...

or can i hook up a router to my computer and then the same router to my xbox 360 and do it that way? is it better to just get a cheapo router instead of the expensive wirless adapter for the 360?

IMO wireless is not good very distributing video. You would do fine with low res stuff, but IME anything with quality will not work reliably over wireless.

well, if you use Wifi/N with the sender and receiver close together, you might be ok. What are you looking to stream?

And by the way, you can stream stuff off the internet. It's usually fairly low bandwidth, though.

If the router and the 360 are both hooked up to your router via CAT5 you are good from a networking perspective. much better than wireless....

The problem may be that your PC drops the wireless connection to your router every so often. That is a common problem, especially when the router and your PC's wireless client are made by different companies. Be sure that your router is updated to the latest firmware, and your PC's WiFi hardware has the latest drivers. Also, it often works best to use Windows built-in Wireless Zero Configuration to run your PC's WiFi client than whatever software utility the WiFi manufacturer provides.
