For me as long as it actually performs 24p True Cinema, the other features it is touting, and looks as good as I suspect Insly says it does, then it is a no brainer. I was seriously considering the 60 XBR5, but even at 1000.00 off MSRP it would still be almost double the lowest prices for the 60A3000. Unless the XBR has twice the PQ( an there is no way it does) and the other features are even better( which only a couple barely are), one would have to be silly to buy the XBR5, because you could own two of the A3000 for the price of one XBR5.

I am leaning towards the 3000 more and more. I have a 50 inch LCDRPTV and sit 10 feet away. I will be changing my room around a bit and will then be sitting 8-9 feet away. I would love a 70 but at that distance I think the 60 will be immersive enough and fit perfectly.

If you want to check geometry easily, get out a THX disc, like Star Wars (any) and select the "THX Optimizer". Under the Video Tests there is a screen that looks like this:

First off let me say thank you VERY much for taking the pics and dealing with the MANY questions from the many members of this forum/thread. I'm with you tho, I surely wouldn't be "pushing" on my screen after I just bought a TV that I REALLY enjoy. I was wondering if you could take some pics of the SD coming thru the TV. And just to make it fair, pick a channel you KNOW has the worst signal. Not to show flaws of the TV, but to say...hey, if it can make it look this decent then the other channels must be better. I watch a lot of sports and auto racing (ESPN, F1, ALMS) so I'd really enjoy those kind of pics.

Thanks again for all the pics as I'm somewhat of a noob and was waiting for someone to chime in on this set and you've sold me on it. Tho I'll be going for the 60" even though the 55" will fit inside my media cut out. I'm about 10'-12' back. Thank you thank you thank you! Now go enjoy that TV!

Congratulations Insly! I really appreciate the time you've taken to give us all your initial impressions along with all of the photos. I was planning on holding out for the 60" XBR5, but given what I've seen in your postings, this set is a helluva value in comparision to the XBR5. I may have to rethink my plan and see this set in action for myself!

One question, if you don't mind, how is the color uniformity on the set? As an XBR1 owner this is my biggest concern in upgrading to the new SXRD's. Thanks again.

I haven't yet, just used Vivid mostly. When I get a chance tomorrow to pickup the calibration disk, I'll probably play around with it. I've been pretty happy with it out of the box, color wise. It's a little bright/blue, but not as bad as other sets I've used out of the box.

Thanks - I didn't know that - I'll check that out tomorrow when I borrow SW from my brother.

As far as the SD request, the worst pictures are probably the music channels I posted or the local channels - these are 'non-digital' analog feed. Not horrible, not great, just decent. Noticeably better than my 65" Mitsu, but I also think because it's a smaller TV.

Wow...thanks Insly for getting those pics up so fast. Thank you very much! Of course my wife just asked if you could get a pick of the Braves vs Phillies game on ESPN in HD on the TV!!!! HAHA Yeah, she's a big Braves fan!

Looks like this may very well be my next TV!!!

Well, I went against my best inner judgment and went to BB and bought one of the 60A3000's tonight. This is by far the most expensive piece of equipment that I have purchased sight unseen. I am mainly going by insly's high praise as well as knowing what the 60a2020 had and what the a3000 was going to fix. The BB salesman said that I got the last one in the Dallas warehouse I hope it doesn't ship in pieces, hehe. My delivery date will either be Tuesday or Thursday. Thank you insly for the help with the coupon, they took it with very little trouble. It did not ring up at first, but they finally got it sorted out.

I think you may have perceived my post a different way. I'm liking the Sony more and more and may get the A3000 over the LX177. The LX177 is having some green push problems. I have liked the SXRD since day 1 (except for the infamous green blob). The SXRD has always had deep blacks and great shadow detail as well as excellent motion response time. Having added the 120hz, wider color gamet, HDMI 1.3, and 6 1080p inputs, makes my decision easier. By your comments on the judder, it sounds like Sony did it "right" even if it's not 5:5. I presume you are not connecting a PC so we'll have to wait to see how the HDMI/DVI goes as far as overscan.

Saw this a little late, sorry. When I turned ESPN-HD on, they were going over Tiger's victory. Here is a pic from that and some concert on HD-NET.

No, I understood your comments. I'm honest when I say, if they did it wrong - I want to see what right is, just in jest to your comments. I didn't take it as an offensive or otherwise comment.

I'm not connecting any PC to it. I'm wanting to get an Mac-mini soon though, but am kinda running out of room.

Glad to hear that there's still a lot of black on this TV. Thanks for the SD pictures; I think the PQ looks good. And to those who have been rudely questioned about their credentials, it usually comes from the same person (on multiple threads), so I hope you are able to look over it (him).

I thought I would add some pics from my Planet Earth HD-DVD on my HD-A20 @ 1080P.

Same shot, paused and viewed at the 3 settings on the A3000.

3.) Cinema (note, I didn't include "Custom" because it looked almost exactly like Cinema.

I've been waiting for this TV to be released from a long time. Thanks to insly and stoked, I got the BB coupon, went over to my local BB and ordered one. They said it will be delivered on 8/15. I have an old CRT and this will be first HDTV. I'm trying to look for a good stand to go with it.

I got the 60". I was comparing it with the Mitsu 734, but after reading that you returned your 733, it was very obvious. This TV is going in my living room and a reasonable horizontal viewing angle is important for me, which the 733/734 seem to lack. This and the Samsung 89S were close, but 10-bit support and your review locked me onto the A3000!

I appreciate all your comments and information you are able to provide to the rest of us to make an informed decision.

Man, this set seems like everything I need.

Unfortunately, since I sit 13-14 feet back in my living room, I need a 70". I wish they made the 3000 in a 70" so I didn't have to wait for the XBR5 (and pay the extra). Crap.

Same here. I did not expect to get it this quick, just got caught up in the moment I am desperately looking for a stand as well. BB has a few I liked but do not stock them. I have been scouring the net and local stores.

The trusty ole tape measure said the base from side to side was 40 1/2 inches wide.

From back of the TV to front of the base, it was 15" even.
