Silk Screen Effect...it is what is often seen on RP in a particularly bright scene (sun, white clouds in a scene, etc.) It manifests itself as a shimmer or a pearly glimmer...some people call it "the sparklies." PDP are NOT susceptable to SSE. DLP and LCOS/SXRD are. I hope that helps. Back to A3000.

Oh I know what your talking about, I see it with my XBR1....it kinda looks like a grainy screen when a scene is all white. Yeah....I kinda dont like that.

Called my local BB and they verified that they have them in the warehouse. I asked where the warehouse was and they said Dallas area, so the same place that Insly picked his up from. They said that if I ordered one it would be here in about 4 days.

If you could look in the manual on the first page and see if the "24p true cinema" logo is in there, if it still is then the A3000 has it. Otherwise, you could become a very rich man
Or better still, is it on the front of the TV? The pic you posted is too far away.

Nevermind my "24p true cinema" question, i just saw the sticker, confirmed that the A3000 has it. This is awesome. Very, very, very little difference between the A3000 and the new XBR with the 24p confirmation.

Thanx insly. The SXRD's have always had excellent blacks and shadow detail.....i fully expect the same here. "Apocolypto" should give you a good read on skin tones....especially since there is lots of skin

And alot of color in that movie, that movie should be the testing movie for all HDTV's.

I can see the 24p True Cinema logo on the picture (Sony 4) and motion flow 120Hz. It's on the sticker that's still attached to the TV. It also says: Live color creation x.v. Color - capability for vivid, vibrant, natural colors beyond HD. I don't see anything about if it's 10 bit or any mention of "Deep Color" on the sticker. I would imagine that it's built in to the TV though. Everywhere that I've seen reports on this TV; "Deep Color" has been mentioned along with x.v. Color, xvYCC, and 10 bit color. The question is how deep the color can go as far as bit depth. So far I've only heard of 8 bit and up to 10 bit color these days. I think we're still a few years away from deeper color sources except for HD camcorders with x.v. Color. I'm no expert, but if there is no source to display it, then how can you confirm it until Sony is willing to report to the public if it is a 10 bit TV. It's definitely not under the specs in the owner's manual.

The PS3 has x.v Color and Live Color, its in the manual online and software update history. As well as 24hz.

It's a shame that "Deep color" information isn't as simple as asking customer service or looking it up in the manual. I emailed Sony about it and the answer was basically that the information you requested isn't available at this time, but they would tell me that it had a 1080p/24 input. I even tried a few different times because some service reps know more than others. At least the ones that have an interest in their job.

"Deep Color" is on the A3000 and because of that it has to be 10 bit so that it can handle it.

Speaking of coupons, I went to my email because I thought I got one not too long ago, but I guess it was longer than I thought. Expired Maybe they will offer another one soon. Not sure if they are sent to everyone at the same time or not. I was thinking of going up tomorrow and getting a 60a3000. They said about 3 or 4 days to get it from Dallas. I am in Houston area.

I don't doubt that the A3000 has "Deep Color" or 10 bit. I have been saying that it does all along. I had all the PDFs downloaded with all the specs and comparisons charts (just like the one you posted). I don't know how to post it in the forum though. It's just not in the owner's manual and in the past few anticipation threads every time it was talked about, people were saying that "Deep Color" is only in the XBR5. You have to buy the XBR5 or you're not going to get it and people were even saying it doesn't have a "24p True Color input", that's only on the XBR5. I'm just tired of debating the specs and want my TV soon. I not going to pay twice as much for a TV that's too big and doesn't look that much more impressive to me. I have already ordered mine and they have already charged my card and the order says in processing, but no definite time frame yet. I ordered the 50A3000 because it fits into my entertainment center and my viewing distance is 6 or 7 feet and it will go great with my Onkyo 905, if I ever get it delivered. All sources 1080p. Anything bigger is pushing it in my opinion. I want the whole picture in my face without having to scan the screen from side to side. It like the last time I went to see a movie with some friends, they sat so close to the front that it gave me a headache and I couldn't see the picture all at once without moving my head back and forth. This is definitely the TV for me.

Such an elegant picture and interface. I'm very interested in this set. Even a digital photo makes it look terrific.

Insly, how's the viewing angle on this set?

How does the SSE compare to the A2020, and for that matter the sammy DLPS?

Insly, so it does have True Cinema 24p? I know you showed a pic with logos for all the abilitites it has and one said 24p True Cinema/120 Motion flow, but does it actually do True Cinema 24p or just accept it?

Congratulations on you excellent choice for an HDTV insly and your ability to track this sucker down. I like the pictures that you're displaying. I'm very interested in the new XMB on these TVs, just like the PS3. Can you post some more menu shots? Also, can you show what information is on the screen when you hit the display button? For instance the PS3 gives you picture bit-rates and codecs, etc. I'm hoping that Sony gives you a confirmation on the display that says what the source is like 1080p/24, 1080p/30, 1080p/60, or 1080p/120 if motionflow is on. I know it's probably wishful thinking on my part, but that's what I would do if I engineered such an awesome HDTV. Thanks for everything you're doing to help us pass the time while waiting for our TVs.

I ordered the KDS-50A3000 from BB on Friday. The item number is 8451659. Delivery is set for 08/30/2007. I do have doubts about that delivery date.

Is there any geometry issues like the other slim RPTV's on the market?

We'll likely need to see several out before we can make that comparison. But that is one seriously thin bezel on this TV. If it doesn't have geometry problems, this could be a top contender for consumers next year.

Run something that is 4:3 and look at the black bars on either side. Where the video stops to the black, does it look straight?

Another question for whenever you can get around to it:

Built-in upconvert --- Both the A3000 and E3000 say: "plus the added ability to upconvert 480i standard definition signals via Digital Reality Creation Multi Function v1.0 technology for a picture with more detail and definition." None of the older models say this. The question is whether there is really improved PQ for non-HD signals.
