I'll soon have my new tv, but I don't have a stand as of yet to put the TV on. I know a coupe of you have gone to Ikea and bought your stands there, but unfortunately, I didn't like any of the stands at Ikea. I was planning on getting this stand:
There are a couple of things that I'm concerned about with this stand #1. There are only 4 compartments for devices #2 it seems a little tall at 28",will this be too high? I have 3 devices already, so that would only leave room for my future purchase of the PS3. I'm guessing if I needed to I could place one of the devices outside the stand, next to the TV, but that wouldn't look clean.
Any suggestions would be of a great help, I need to get this stand before next Saturday when my TV is delivered. I do have a few prerequisites:
-Stand should be 60" or less, my tv wall is only about 9 feet long.
-Hopefully it'll have room for more than 4 components.
-Preferably not glass, we'll have little ones running around soon.
As always, thanks for your help.
Check out http://www.standsandmounts.com, and/or http://www.racksandstands.com. Between them you can find a stand for just about any situation or setup. Also, unless your seating surface is on the high side, my feeling is 28" might be a bit too tall. It's really important to view this set with your eyes dead-center of screen. So while you're seated, measure from the floor up to your eye level. That should be your guide when considering stands for this TV.
KillaB3E,
I just got off the phone with Eagle freight and my 60a3000 is delivering
next Friday from Crutchfield!
Concerning the stand, I bought the Sanus SFV-49. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-O38EAEe...=detailed_info
It was originally 300.00, but they now have on sale for 130.00.
It is much different from the stand you are looking at but it is MUCH better
looking "In Person". My wife does not like A/V stands unless they look like "normal" furniture (similar to what you are looking at) but she said this
Sanus stand "looked nice" and she "thought it would look good with the new
TV".
Just thought I'd share my experience with you.........
Hello All,
There are a couple of things that I'm concerned about with this stand #1. There are only 4 compartments for devices #2 it seems a little tall at 28",will this be too high?
28" is definitely too tall. Mine is 22.5" and I wish it was 1-2" shorter. I'd say 23" is the upper limit, including the margin of error. In other words, 23" period, not 24, not 25 (IMO, of course)
Go to ******* if you want a great price on a 50A3000 = $1,199 plus a free matching Sony stand and free shipping.
I don't seem to be able to paste the link, just add .com to the name.
This does look like a great deal! I've been googling trying to figure out what site it was. 1 of the ones I came up with with it for that price was L C D Plasma Deals DOT com. Was this where you saw it? If it was, buyer beware!!!
I checked em out on reseller ratings and what little info they had on them didn't look good.
Well, I just got done setting up my new 60A3000, and after doing some quick tweaks from the CNET posted settings, I must say that this is an extremely impressive picture. I spent an enormous amount of time reading this forum and others, mulling over the different technologies, and this forum helped me make my buying decision. I ordered from Crutchfield for a very good price, and the Eagle USA delivery arrived with a pristine box, and an even more pristine television inside. I couldn't be happier with the internet buying experience. This being my first big ticket internet purchase, I can tell you that I was more than a little nervous. I actually got physically ill this afternoon (probably more from anticipation than anything) waiting for the delivery people. All in all, now that I have a fully functional TV in my living room, I can now attest to the viability of ordering online. I saved a rather sizeable chunk of change. Thank you everybody for your imputs.
The rest of my entertainment center cabinet is on it's way. The first delivery attempt netted me some broken furniture. I rejected it and it's now on order again. The TV cabinet shown in the picture below is the standard 50" model but the cabinet I bought for my 60A3000 was the 62" from Furniture Row. Much nicer cabinet.

THe deal is at 1 call. Excellent rep as a retailer. The deal has to be cut and pasted from our chubby money holder site.

Can you explain further. I don't understand. *******'s price is no where near that price.
Its dead. I think they sold out of the stand earlier, and removed the combo all together.
If you ask me, the "matching" stand was not really matching anyway, that is unless you like a 55" wide stand for a 47" wide TV.
The price was good, but I suspect things will continue to drop throughout winter into spring. New models are probably right around the corner again.
has anyone hooked this up to their computer yet. Im looking at the vga cable, but would love to pair it with the hdmi to dvi cable from my nv 8800gts. in the manual it says to use the vga, but i cant help but think it would look oh so much better the other way. I want to buy one of the new lg combo hd dvd/bluray drives and watch movies on it. any advice would be appreciated
I currently have a 42" 1080p LG LCD in my living room that I bought back in August, but I'm not crazy over the size (too small). So I'm going to move it into the bedroom. I can't afford a 52" LCD, so I'm considering one of these Sony's.
As a replacement, I'm considering the 50A3000. Would I see much of a difference in going from a 42 to a 50, or should I go with a 55? (my viewing distance is 12 feet)
My main question though is that I have a Toshiba HD-A3 DVD, which only displays up to 1080i. This is fine on my LG, but how will this display on the new Sony? Should I also move up to a 1080p? (either Blu-ray or HD-DVD). On these Sony's, would I see a big difference between 1080i and 1080p on these size TV's?
Looks like crutchfield's 60a3000 out of stock//12/14 orders have been fulfilled. I see:
Order Date: Dec 6 2007 6:22PM
Details: Items have shipped.
Ship Date: Dec 13 2007 3:26PM
when looking at my order. Looks like the new expected date is 12/20.

Per your post a page back...
"Anyway, this tv is really nice, but its being exchanged. I have a small scratch on the interior surface of the screen, about a half a cm. Its nigh impossible to see from my viewing distance, 8ft, but I can see it during hockey games and such. Theres also some small dark spots near the top which really isnt visible and im sure can be cleaned. There is some bowing on the test patterns, on the left side about an inch or so, but it can't seen on regular content even on 4:3 material.
I'm still debating whether the sse is objectionable enough for me to move to a kuro, but at 2.5x the price of this, I'm pretty sure I'm staying with this guy.
Overall, I have no doubt this is the best rptv on the marke"
QUESTION for you.
How was the return process to Vanns ?, were they good about the exchange?
I will be opening my 60" box this weekend.
Will be on the lookout for any real issues.
Thanks

At that distance, I'd go as high as I could. I'm 9.5 feet and 60" seems just about right for me.

Yes, plenty of people (me included) have used the hdmi connection for a computer. It works just fine.
I've sat in these at the store and really like them, although they may be a little short / small for me, I'm 6'3, but I'm getting them for a great price.
Also, for those who are still looking for a great deal, Fry's has all 3 models on sale again, if you live near a Frys or if you want to PM, check out this link and happy PM-ing. Follow the link and click on Fry's (Dallas) on the right side and check out the 3rd page.
I just recently returned my 46 xbr4 lcd for clouding and swapped it for the 60a3000.Ive never owned a rear projection but i think ive bought another lemon : (.I dont know if its normal but when i watch the tv in a dark room, get really close to it and look up at the screan while below the tv on the floor it looks like the white letters on the "Display" screan holagram green.Even when i look at it from a distance in the middle it seams to have the same barely noticable green holagram around the letters.I cant notice it when an actual picture is being shown unless i moved right up to the screan, please lord dont tell me i have another lemon : (
I will tell you guys that when I tried to price match the Frys ad for the 60 at BB here in DFW they would not do it. They said that the price was below cost and refused to lose money on the TV. YMMV but good luck.

That is normal for RPTVs. There is a viewing angle that you need to stay within, it is listed in the manual I believe. Sitting in the floor right underneath it will always produce that effect.
You should be ok, The serial numbers affected are 8000001 - 8016160 and your serial numbers are above the ones listed......enjoy you new set
Weird. My serial number is 8004787. They used that to tell me that my TV fell out of the range... It seems that my serial number is right in the middle of that range...
I called again. They admitted that my TV falls within the range, but did everything they could to discourage me from doing the update. They repeatedly asked what I was seeing that led me to believe that my TV was faulty. They also suggested that doing the update would have a negative effect on my TV. It wound up taking over 40 minutes before they sent out the USB stick and finished the call.
I spent 45 min on the phone with them yesterday. In the end they are sending the "USB device", but it took awhile. My major problem was getting the person to simply understand "American" english. Probably spent half the time just getting them to understand my address. Once she caught onto the "issue" there was no problem or arguments. I was very careful to make sure that she actually had my address correct. Funny thing: I had registered the TV on-line the day before, but their CSR's in Manilla (or wherever they are) don't have access to that database.
However, I am quite satisfied with adjustments in the Standard mode. Gamma is right where I want it (2.22), color temp is right on (after making some tweaks to White Balance), color decoding in Standard is right on. Often the Cinema and Custom modes provide adjustments that Standard does not, but that does not appear to be the case with this set.

Dave since you are a Pro, I would respect your settings if you were so inclined to post them

FYI. I just got my second 60A3000 from Amazon (great return policy). The first was a too green in the hue dept so I tried another. Still more green than I want, but it is adjustable out. Anyway long story short, she's a keeper. Excellent PQ.
Now as for the so called range of affected SN's. Neither of my sets fell into the range, actually they were both well beyond the upper limit. What I want to warn you about Dave already mentioned. The problem is obvious if you have it and my first set did. Here is what you can try if you like. Adjust Standard and Custom to the exact same settings.
On my first set the Standard view was much crisper than the Custom. On the new set they are much more alike.
Bottom line, I don't think Sony knows exactly which models are affected. Only time will tell. I hope the fix work for you all though, that would be great!
I would like to see luminance measurements because HCFR shows that my TV always comes in at less than 2.22 gamma without clipping grays.
Far as I can tell, you cannot set the standard and custom to the same settings and compare the two. Standard appears to have image altering that cannot be turned off. The effect will show up as moire and shadows on different HD images.
