Will it be crazy for me if I don't get an extended warranty? Does anybody else think that maybe the A3000 is more reliable than it's predecessor?

I was originally going to get the Sony warranty, but a lot of folks on this board recommend the Mack warranty,so I just purchased it a few minutes ago for my 55A3000.

$200 for three years on top of the manufacturer's one year including two bulb replacements sounds like a good deal to me!

Well only 4-5 paragraphs in, he says the lamp is rated for 2000 hours ("about a year" - at almost 5.5 hours per day? seems a lot...) but it's actually rated at 8000 hours... or "about 4 years" at 5.5 hours/day I guess. Big difference. Personally I use mine on power saving too. Also don't use it for 5-6 a day every day, 365...

I ultimately preferred the Auto2 iris setting, Power Save On, and the Contrast control set between 65 and 80.

Yep, I use Auto2, Power save on, Contrast = 66.
I disagree with his take on Motion Enhancer. "Standard" gets rid of judder on 24hz sources, though I agree "High" looks unnatural, and Motion Naturalizer is pure garbage - either flickers, or just darkens the picture.

I am in need of a warranty for my 60A3000 (it arrives on Friday from crutchfield). Unfortunately the crutchfield warranty is not offered in FL, so that leaves the Sony and potentially this mack warranty. I understand that the Sony warranty does not cover bulbs, but it could pay off in spades 4 years from now when there are not comparable RPTV's to replace the unit. I would hate for Sony to have to provide me with a 60" lcd

Can anyone purchase this mack warranty?

can you PM me on where you bought the SU-RS12X? Thx.

Also, does anyone use an HDTV antenna? If so, how does the signal compare to cable or satellite? I think I could pick up additional stations with an antenna that cable and satellite don't have. I live about 50 miles north of Los Angeles. I do use an antenna occasionally to pick up SD signals, but they are nowhere near as clear as the satellite signal I get.

Thanks for your help.

I have a 6' HDMI cable running from my PS3 that's folded and twisted and all over the place, works fine.

As for the HD Antenna, it's my understanding that OTA(Over the Air) signals are actually better than the cable or satellite signals, because of the compression that the companies do before they send it out. Unfortunately, you aren't going to get as many OTA HD channels as you are cable/satellite. But you can use cable/satellite for the non-local channels, and use the antenna for your locals.

Question for current Sony owners. I currently own an SamsungHL-R5678W and I'm looking to upgrade for a few reasons.

1. I want a bigger screen 60+
2. I want 1080p/24fps support
3. Half the fun of this hobby is buying new gear.

So I'm assuming I can sell my HLR for a fair price can you comment on the Samsung HL-T6189s v Sony KDS60A3000. The Samsung is about $700 more then the Sony. All my current TVs are Samsung and short of the light tunnel issue(which was fixed at no charge) I've been happy with Samsung.

I just picked one up from Video Only as well. Great deal on the set, however they had none in stock and have it back ordered for me. I should be getting it in about a week or so. Can't wait!

I bought their 3 year ESA also, which is through GE Zurich I believe... has anyone ever had problems with them?

Yes, the manual is on the Sony site, but for some reason it's a "secure" PDF. Whatever.

A downloadable PDF copy is available on the Circuit City site. Click link and save to your computer.

The input diagram is on page 11. You can magnify the page as much as you want -- 100%, 200%, etc.

I have been searching nationally for a Sony KDS-60RBX2 to purchase and have been unable to find a unit for sale. I am now looking to purchase the KDS-60A3000. Has anyone owned or currently own both of the sets? I have read reviews on both units and read through the threads and would like an individual's feedback.

The PDF manual is on Sonystyle also = http://www.sonystyle.com/wcsstore/So...KDS50A3000.pdf

By the way, I also noticed it says this now:

Quote:

A series features: Full HD 1080p, Motionflow 120Hz, BRAVIA Engine EX, 12-bit SXRD chip, x.v.Color capability, Deep Color (HDMI v1.3 option), 1080/24p input capable, PhotoTV HD

Wasn't there a question early on if this set really supported Deep Color?

Anyone can purchase it as long as it's within 30 days of purchase. I purchased my 55A3000 on Dec. 15th from Amazon.

So my new KDS 50A3000 is on the way from Vanns (great prices!) and should arrive next week.

Source question: a) I don't have a blu-ray player yet but do have a "upconverting" Sony DVD player (claims to upconvert regular DVD material to 720). What will the picture improvement be on standard DVD's before I can afford the blu-ray?

b) I only have analog cable at the moment and really don't want to pay the extra for the significant price jump to digital cable if I don't have to. However, some the the local channels and national cable channels are broadcasting in HD but I'm wondering if I'll even get that benefit because my feed is all coming through the Comcast Co-axial cable.

I know the A3000 "upconverts" all material to 1080 (but have learned in this thread it's not a true 1080 unless the source is sent that way)

So what will be my picture improvement over my 7 yr old 32" Trinitron (other than bigger screen size!) with these two non-Full-HD sources? Will anything I watch in my current set up be Full HD? Just trying to see if I will be able to really appreciate the capability of the TV in the short term.

Thanks for the help!

Well all, I got my TV (60") from Crutchfield the other day and all I can say is "WOW." I went to go look at this set in person at CC and was not totally excited about it, but I believe a lot of the people on this board and several reviews and pulled the plug. I can't believe the picture at my house compared to CC with zero tweaking. Also a lot of these stores feed terrible media to these tv's too.

If your on the fence, I would go for this TV before they are gone.

Thanks all once again for the best pick. I orignally had a 61xbr300 and this is totally like night and day.

I had a Samsung HL-T6189 for a period of time, but now have a Sony for the price difference as you mentioned (if you look bat at some much earlier posts you'll see why...haha). My impressions are that the Sony has a sharper picture, but the Samsung I gave up had better vertical line geometry. The Samsung HL-TXX76 models have terrible geometry but the HL-TXX87/89 models have better geometry. Unfortunately, many of them (not mine) suffer halo effect which you can read about in the Samsung forum. Also, the picture would be at full brightness within a few seconds, rather than a minute or so for the Sony, and other standard bulb-based sets. If that is worth $700 to you then you might try going that route. I love my Sony except for the geometry...haha.

Did you get the stand from them? It's a steal. Cheaper than any Ikea alternative and it matches.

My experience has been that SD DVDs look great up converted (depends on transfer quality) on this set. However they dont compare to movies like "Transformers" on my Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD player.

Picture is only as good as the feed. My local cable company offers HD through Coaxial cable only if you pay the digital price, and it its lacking in content compared to Directv. You have a very nice HD TV, don't deprive it of an HD signal, Buy an OTA and get the locals, they come in even better than Directv HD locals, and you get them all in digital, real cheap, well you must buy an antenna.

Your picture will be crap (eception up converted sd dvd) without an HD source, even SD Directv looks awful to me, so I go the extra mile to get HD signals. Im no expert but this has been my personal experience.

[/QUOTE]Cable companies are not permitted to encrypt local OTA digital channels. So you ought to be able to get the local ABC, Fox, etc. HD channels IF Comcast carries them at all. By law, these MUST be available on the lowest priced tier. So just connect the cable to the A3000 and do a scan.

Because they are not selling "Digital Cable" or other services, cable doesn't like to make you aware of this fact - so the CSR "scripts" are not likely to include this little tidbit.

Hey guys got a few questions for the experts here....Just bought a KDS-60A3000 and I'm being picky about how it's dealing with my PS3. When I go to the HDMI settings and search for attached SONY devices, it never finds the PS3 as a HDMI source, and yes I'm using an HDMI cable to connect the two.

Secondly, I've read in a few places that certain PS3 games run natively at 720p, but can run at 1080i, how do you change them to run @ 1080i?

Thanks

Mike

Thanks! I was under the impression that this tv came with an ota antenna for HD signals.

One final question, I never thought I would be asking, but how is the sound for the tv speakers? I want something simple for the wife that does not involve changing inputs, turning on receivers etc (and we have a logitech harmony...).

Is the PS3 connected only via HDMI? Is there video signal?

As far as the games running at 1080i, the game MUST be able to support that resolution. There is no 'upconversion' on the PS3 to convert a 720p game to 1080i (this has been a major issue for folks still running on the old school tube TV's which support 480i/p and 1080i only).

It should also be noted that some of the titles for PS3 support full 1080p.

It has a tuner, no antenna, that you must purchase separately. the audio is OK, I'm feeding it HDMI which caries the audio, now I find myself hardly turning on he pioneer.

How would you possibly get that impression? It's been 10s of years since TV's came with antennas!

Easy there. I made an assumption as my friends Sony LCD RPTV (dont recall the model number) came with an antenna to receive OTA HD signals.

Thanks Morepower!

Has anyone heard of any optical board (OB) problems with the KDS-xxA3000 series that were experienced by Sony's XBR1 and XBR2 series. I was looking to purchase the KDS-55A3000 model but was going to wait until it had been on the market for 6 to 12 mos. to see if Sony had figured out the OB problems that had plagued the XBR1&2 and which had led to a class action lawsuit that Sony had settled. Now that Sony is discontinuing production, I won't be able to wait until next summer to find out if they had because this problem usually takes months before it develops.
Consequently, does anyone know if this problem was fixed with this series?
- thanks -

I've had my 60 for about a week...I have tried setting it up for the superb color accuracy and deep black levels that I have read about from both CNET.com and The Perfect Vision. I have gone in and set up the user settings according to both of their specifications, but am still not at all impressed with the black level performance. Anybody have any advice??? Thanks.
