I have worked in Tech Support for the last 30 years and you can get pretty beat up some times from customers so I love the chance to be a customer.

I suspect if you are willing to jump up to the $2000 price point they are others worth considering but I do not think you will gain much that would justify the cost.

For me most subs sound good or great for movies, Its easier to get great sound for Movies but music is tougher to achieve.

The Ultra excells at both. Go listen to one and play the park scene of Hulk and then try something like Gerry Rafferty or Steeley Dan or anything else and you will be sold.

Ultra is the one.

I have had it for 1 week now and have not tweaked it after initial setup, I know I have some work to do but it sounds so good I have not felt the need, just enjoying it. That is key, if you are not happy with your sub you will be constantly trying to find a happy point.

Plus one....Have had mine for 1 week, simply amazing sound, Iron man on BR was freaking incredible. mind blowing woofage and gorgeous build quality....check out the pics here

Having heard the velo dps-10 in action at my father-in-law's, while an admirable sub, "would be one heck of an upgrade" is an understatement!

You should see the room that the DPS-10 is in; its BIG. Vaulted ceilings, opens up to a kitchen and a hallway with bedrooms, etc. I dont know the square footage but its definitely not enough sub for the space

Somehow it still manages to rattle the crap out of everything though!

In terms of near field, I hope you're sitting on it then!

I have the Incredible Hulk on BR as well and it has wicked bass too, I just liked Iron Man better and loved the deep bass and dynamics of it.

I just placed an order for the B-Stock Piano Black. Apparently it is new but with a small chip near the driver. Because it comes with a fabric grill should I be concerned that it is an older version (weren't there amp shut down issues)? Anyone else purchase one with a chip (B stock)? I know they've had some with chips near the driver listed in the past.

This is going to replace an MFW-15 and MBM-12 to go with my Klipsch THX U2 speakers.

It's not likely that you will have a problem. There hasn't been an amp shutdown problem in over a year. Also, the fabric grill isn't older. It's just another option along with the metal grill.

Good to hear. I haven't received it yet and I'm already craving a second.

Rob, in my 2700cuft HT, one 13 is more than enough, it literally scares the crap out of you

Enjoy!

It's funny that sourbeef asked about the Ultras weakness. Lately, I've gotten anal about SQ for 2 channel and can't seem to find the right mix integrating the sub. I had it, don't know what happened, but just can't get it to sound right. Instead of being tight and fast, it now sounds bloated and overbearing. It's like someone has boosted the gain. I'm calibrated 2dbs cold. Oh well, back to the drawing board. I'd pretty much removed the sub from 2 channel playback and did so last night and everything came correct. Even my speakers sounded a bit bass heavy though.

Nothings changed in my calibration settings, room arrangement or gear. I don't think it's the sub. I was watching CSI last night in DD and some of the lab music was a bass synth mix that was absolutely stellar (got to find out what that was). Might be my ears, might be my brain...anyway I'm puzzled. Something that was right, now sounds off.

THE PB and PC are the same performance.

The PB might dig a hz or 2 deeper but your ears will never notice. SVS has tested those beasts to death.

The SVS guy told me they ran WOTW DTS at +5db reference MV for a week straight to try to BLOW UP the Ultra...Finally after they cranked and cranked and cranked it did indeed show some weakness. But we are talking about levels that NO ONE would ever listen at. At refernce volume they couldn't make it squeal....it just kept going and going without any problems.

Point being ....the Ultra is 99.99% BULLETPROOF!

The way that driver moves air that would be a good thing Some times it goes in and out so fast its just a blur.

I find it hard to imagine what two ultras in a room would be like. I have one in a small room around 1800-1900 ft3.
I guess just as smooth ? It already has low distortion.

Woot!

Duals rock! Just got my second yesterday and got it dialed in nicely.

Looks awesome. I think SVS is wasting money providing grills for these. Seems nobody uses them.

I noticed tonight that there has been a price increase on the PB13-ultra in Canada. I currently have an SVS sub but have been seriously looking into the PB13. Tonight the wife and I talked it over (I begged) and we agreed to order one. Sonicboom audio here in Ontario has raised the price of the textured by $200 and $300 for the high gloss black, which I was going to order. Now it's sitting at $1999.00 plus 13% taxes and shipping.
I figured this increase was coming to fall in line with the sinking Canadian dollar. I just didn't think it would happen that quick.
I guess I'll be happy with what I have and just wait to see what happens.
I looked at two different exchange rates, and at $1,899, it is still lower than the currency exchange would dictate. Add shipping and duty to git to GTA and it is still a better bargain that it is in the US. But it is tough to shell out $2k in todays economy. Too bad about your GST. There are very few places in the US that has that high of a tax. At least for now.

I think your right about the grilles. I've only seen a small few in use.

Thanks. I've been quite stunned really, with the increased performance offered with the second.

Makes the hidden magnetic grill holders look like a real smart decision.

Even though stacked Ultras look very cool, I'd think your room response would be better if split. Even side by side would couple the bass better with the floor.
