That would be my guess....a explosion from the sound waves of the subs.....that is why I keep small children and pets aways from my SV sub when I watch a movie full of bass.

If that room is strictly for listening purposes and there's no wife to piss off, you may want to research acoustic paneling and other forms of absorption and diffusion.

Room treatments are needed,I wouldn't know where to start or what to do.The part of the room not shown is full of heavily padded furniture wall to wall padded carpet as well so the room is pretty dead.There is the WAF factor as well.

This sticky thread in the dedicated theater forum is a good place to find some excellent information on treating a room.

Read some of that thread it's got good info.The biggest concern to start with is the wall with the clock on it.Is that the front wall? Well it vibrates fiercely and is very audible.It's 2x4 construction but with only 3/8 drywall kind of flimsly !!!

Nice. Dual UTRAS is the only way to fly. You are definitely headed down the path to enlightenment.....
My second ULTRA is just weeks away and I too had to give a sacrifice. Luckily it was only the COACH store this;

and then this;

that got ma money....

Guess I am a brown noser too....

Yes, drywall poses a problem. I may be wrong, but I think I read that it is resonant at around 70hz, which is either by chance or the fault of my own drywall, the frequency range I have trouble with (HUGE bump at 70hz no matter where my sub is located). Bass traps and more acoustic paneling would no doubt help, but the ever present WAF is a factor. Designer paneling gets expensive, and bass traps are only hidden so well after a point. The woes of the living room theater....

I saw acompany that makes acoustic tables. GIK acoustics.This way you get panel function out of a piece of furniture. I am sure DIY is possible here.

There are other options like ATS acoustics that make nice looking and very reasonably priced and they have DIY also . Im doing my room with some GIK 242 ELITES and some 244 bass traps and the rest will be some more acoustic panels from ATS . I should of done it a long time ago and listened to advice from a friend on AH and instead got bass hungry but im on the wright path now.Room ACOUSTICS is the only way to fly

I've looked at ATS, but I need to have "designer" panels for the wifey (), so some of the custom stuff from GIK will most likely be the road I travel.

Yes those designer series are sweet !!!

The bass traps that go floor to ceiling are nice. Has anyone used the bare foam panels that are sculpted?

The GIK panels with the stands are really cool.

TheFactor did you get your panels yet?
post #6766 of 10020
Just a thought, but I was messing around last night witht the ULTRA. I set it to sealed mode, slid in the foam inserts and let her rip. I found the thump was unbelievable. But I lost alot of output down low.
Now if one were to take two ULTRAs co-located) and run one sealed and one at say 10hz mode or sealed mode, would they play nice together?
post #6767 of 10020
I'm with you Khakimon, I was running in 20hz mode and around 2 weeks ago I sealed up my Ultra and ran Audyssey again-sounds great. Great question you asked. I am also interested in this....I do not see a reason why you could not run one sealed and one at 10hz-another ultra purchase in our future I see.
post #6768 of 10020
You very wise O-Browningold-one. You see future clearly.
ULTRAs will rear their heads once again....

I would send it to me as a charitable donation, good for the full value as a tax credit...

If that does not work for you then you should sell it for no less then 1300.00, plus shipping if you feel like going through the trouble of packing it up. Try E-bay with local pick-up.

I sold my P2B/PLUS and UPS gave me the hardest time shipping that thing. THEY HATE HEAVY TEAM LIFT BOXES....

Thanks Khakimon for your input! I will list it for $1,200 + shipping on the 'gon. I would never trust UPS with this heavy sub! They love to roll them down conveyor belts...not good for heavy drivers.

Thank you ! I went with black so they would blend better and I think it worked . The 242s Elites will be here friday and there Framed in a dark maple but slightly thinner 4'' 2'x4' I might be switching them around with the 244s and they'll go in the back of the room but will see .

Very nice. Looks so professional.
Thanks for those pics as well.
Like you I have noticed a big diff in the sound. I like the black fabric, blends in nicely.
I am doing DIY on these panels and now you have talked me into black instead of beige. When I am done I post some pics.

Thanks ! and your welcome Thats cool post them up I cant wait to see your panels to and omg as far as the color I must of went back and fourth from black and beige and almond. I had each one in my cart like 5 times and kept clearing them then adding and finally went with the black but im very glad I did . But I was most importanly impressed with quality of sound improvements and that was only with two front stage panels cant wait to keep adding a peice at a time and hearing the results.

Can you describe the difference in sound? Which frequencies are affected in listening?
