**HELP! 14 ft viewing distance, 5080HD or 60a2020?

So I just moved into my brand new loft last night. Of course the night before I went to best buy to get a new HDTV as my 32 LCD Viewsonic was not going to cut it. I went in researched with the intention of buying the 60a2020. The reason being is that my living room is a shared space with the kitchen. The total room is 20ft x 18 ft with 9 ft windows along the 18 ft wall. Anyhow the way the room is laid out I would prefer not dividing up the room by floating a small couch 7ft to 10ft from the TV. At full length, with the BDI TV stand and leather sectional I have picked out, viewing distance will be roughly 14ft.

Now here's the question, last night I went in to Best Buy planning to buy the Sony 60a2020, mainly because it was the most reasonably priced a 60inch screen, good quality image. I was/am very concerned about the 14ft viewing distance. Anyway, I walked out with a Pioneer 5080HD because the picture quality is just wicked, but am having second thoughts. If I am 14ft away should I switch to the Sony 60a2020? or should I stick with the better image quality and try a 50inch plasma at 14 ft? I am a gamer, but also watch a lot of sports (Go Bears!).

Thanks for any advice

Egads! You have a viewing distance for a 70"+ Panel.

I view a 57" 1080P Sharp flat panel from 8.5' and could easily view a 65-70" at that same distance since I own HD and BD and 90% HD Viewing but my SD isn't too bad either.

Please read the reviews of the A3000 - quite excellent so far with the first owner. 14' is a looooooong way for a 50" panel - I went from a 45" to a 57" and the HD Movies became new with more details of the larger pixels and no loss of quality whatsoever on mine - not even SD became worse though you may not believe that. I understand the 5080 is excellent but 14' is pretty far back when I can get to within less than a foot with crystal clear PQ with mine when in Dot Mode.

A rough rule of thumb is that for general viewing (mix of SD and HD) a distance of around 2 1/2 times the diagonal size of the TV is preferred. For good HD images it can be as low as 2 or even less. So for 14 feet, 67 inches would be the right size, and you could go over 70. Certainly 60 inches is minimal, and 50 inches, well let's say it's your house but myself I'd never consider it.

Wow, so it seems 50 inches is suicide unless I move my seating closer. Which means I have to go shopping for couches with the wife again (AAAAGH!) or cancel the order and get the 60 incher.

I would put it this way. At 14', your money was totally wasted. Sorry.

I'd get a 60"+ or move closer.

Thought I would provide an update. It was way too far and we changed the couch and we now sit 6 ft away. Still love my kuro over newer tvs though!
