List of HD DVD Combos/Combo Collections

I'm trying to put together a comprehensive list of combos/flippers, their release status, and whether or not they have alternative non-flippers. Any help is appreciated, as I tend to be a little scatterbrained.

One thing I noticed as I compiled this list, was that I'd buy several of the movies if they weren't combos or flippers. In fact, I wasn't even aware some of them (e.g., 16 Blocks, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, ATL) even *were* combos/flippers. What an utter disappointment! However, the good news is that most of the good ones are available on both formats for all you format neutral folks.

Army of Darkness has been re-released as HD DVD only (non-combo).

Also, considering HD DVD is region free will you be listing HD DVD only versions from other countries? For example Hot Fuzz is available as a non-combo from the UK.

The Matrix Triology isn't really a combo. The DVD on the other side is not a DVD version of the movies, so I don't think it counts.

No, because most people won't be importing disks. We are talking US only, at least for now.

Fair enough, I will modify it to read combo/flipper.

If you are going to list BD versions then you should have posted this thread in the HDTV Software forum, not the HD DVD forum.

This is interesting (and great) news and I wasn't aware of it. But this makes me question whether I need to double dip to ensure the longevity of my HD collection? I mean it certainly doesn't send the signal that Warner has faith in the combo format.

Technically yes, but the cruz of this thread is dealing with combo/flipper disks, which are HD DVD only. I was only trying to consolidate info on the disks and their alternative non-flippers, if any. In fact, I didn't initially include any BD info until I edited it for the sake of being thorough.

So you added BDs to be thorough in the HD DVD forum but won't add imports because "most people won't import". If that is the case then "Most people won't be format neutral and have a player from both sides" so you can take the BD part away too.

How does that have any impact on whether or not your discs work. Why would you buy the exact same disc twice if it already works. Second this has nothing to do with D&D movies, they will continue to sell them as Combo's, its just that these movies have A.) No longer New releases, B.) probably at the end of their initial Production stock B.) allows them to lower price and production costs. Warner unlike Universal was never planing on using flippers for catalog titles. 6+ months and a movie is no longer a new release and is basically a catalog title, it makes sense sell it like it is one.

Do you think there will be a greater population of people that are format neutral, or who will be importing? I think everyone knows the answer to this question. I am indeed being thorough WRT the US marketplace and for the vast majority of consumers. Sorry bud, I know of so few people that bought into either HD format, let alone anyone that would even consider importing. But assuming that imports are few and far between is not a stretch.

Because I got the impression that they were dropping it due to its instability, unreliability, etc. I was not aware that they intended all along to release new flicks in both flipper and non-flipper. So I stand corrected, it doesn't appear to be a decision based on long-term reliability of my current flippers.

I don't think this is what they intend to do. I'd guess that going forward new releases will be combos, while catalog releases will be HD DVD only. At some point a title is no longer considered "new" and from that point any further pressings will be HD DVD only. This is all just speculation on my part.

As for the import question - ordering from Amazon.co.uk is no more trouble than ordering from Amazon.com. You don't even need a separate account. Being aware that an HD DVD only import alternative exists is a bigger hurdle than actually ordering one.
