my 360 is on the fritz

I turned on my 360 the other day and the got the 3 red rings of death so i turned it off waited about 5 min then turned back on and it started up but it froze on the start-up screen along with a nasty sound glitch. so I repeated the 5 min wait and tried again, it worked this time and i was able to play cod3 for a while. Then the next time i went to play it gave me the 3 red rings again so i turned it on and off waiting a minute before each time. So after 4 tries it actually started up but froze on the main menu. got the red rings a couple more times, then it started up and was able to play dirt. So I'm wondering is this thing awaiting imminent death? Oh I also checked the error code and it was 0102?

Sorry to tell you but yup, its done. Same thing happened to me and then eventually when i turned it on, all i got was the 3 red rings... Sorry my friend. (and i only had the dang thing ~ 5months when it did it) Took a month and a half to get my "new" refurb.

Sounds pretty dead to me. Or gravely ill, anyway.

Red rings = time to send it in for a warranty repair

Breaking news, 3 red lights is about the same as 3 warning lights on the dash of your car. In other words, it's over, get on with it.

Nah, most of the time that has to do with emissions so it can be ignored until it's time for inspection..

nah, if you've got a cel and an abs and a brake/trac light something a little more major than an o2 sensor is probably going on

No, it gets old having useless threads like this clutter up the first page of the board. They wind up pushing other threads that actually have useful information in them further down the page or onto the 2nd page where they not easily accessible.

There's a sticky up top that specifically says "3 red rings? Read this!". Helps if you pay attention.

Also, don't worry about your replacement taking a month. It won't. It'll probably take two. Good luck with your nut kicking quest. Let us know how it goes.

Make sure to start a new thread though!

Yeah, I meant to add that

Maybe we can get a stickie for all those who wish to kick Gates in the jewels, so it can be ignored by everyone as well.

The worst part is they only sent me a free 1 month of live with the refurb. If you count the time the xbox started freezing like you said i was technically "without" my xbox for a little over 2 months. Now, i could have been a jerk and pressed the issue but im just glad i got it back! They originally told me 14 days from the time they received it but that was changed to 4 to 6 weeks. Dont expect to get it back any sooner than i did bro!

I had a car that always spit out those lights and soon got rid of it (soon being 5yrs).. Never buy an Alero, worst car I ever bought..

Sort of like you asking about cheap Wii component video cables without searching first?

lol, touche. You have to admit though, its turned into an epidemic on this board for people to start threads with their RROD experience. It can definitely be maddening!

Your point? Mine didnt have a STICKY. So it was justified. His problem has a big ol sticky on the top of the forum.

you 360 owners should really go hay wire with all of these rings of death, I know I would. I remember when my xbox went flashing green ring on me two times, thank God I had an extended warranty both times. I have the ps3 now and hopefully it lasts longer than my xbox 1.

Your choice of console is evident from the tone of your post

Just be thankful that someone so much better than us took the time out of his busy Resistance: FoM / Motorstorm schedule to post in our lowly xbox forum.

actually the 360 has some very nice games but I'm not into gaming that much I guess I'm getting old. The most I use the ps3 for gaming are the demos.

I bought a PS3 thinking it would be a great gaming machine that I could also play BD's with it as a plus. It turns out its a great BD player that plays games too. Mind you not many GOOD games. My original 360 died but I'd have it on for hours at a time playing games. My PS3 will never have that issue it seems. If lair sux then I worry about this system and gaming. Sorry, I also own a 360 and LOVE IT!!!! I am making PS3 comments because a troll came into this thread talking about the PS3, so I thought I'd respond.

I've gotten the red rings maybe twice. But nothing ever came of it. I just rebooted and it played fine. Red rings doesn't always mean death.
I hope you have a warranty.

Send it in ASAP for repair, and they'll do it for free.

Yes they do. They just dont necessarily tell you when its really going to be dead

Rest assured, your 360 is on a fast track to the grave if you have seen red rings at any point.

So whats the mileage on these 360 systems?? I got my 360 this past December and I have played GoW for a month for about an hour a night and then some games here and there but not to much gaming at all. I'd say I have about 100 hours total of gaming time on my 360. How many hours of gaming did you guys get from your 360s till you got the red rings of death??
There's not a preset clock in it that causes it to pop off after a specific # of hours. It seems to be mostly dependent on how hot the motherboard gets. That can change from game to game.

Just play it until it dies and then get if fixed for free.
