viewing distance for JVC DLA-RS1

My home theater dimensions are 13.5 ft wide and 22 ft long. Ceiling height is 10 ft. Screen is Draper Clarion M1300, 119 inch diagonal. The JVC projector will be mounted approximately 20 ft. away under a soffit . I have total light control in the room as it is a dedicated room in the basement. Currently I have(planning ) the first row set @ 12 feet. Second row is about 19 feet from the screen? As I am still in th framing stage, I need some input .
My question to my fellow members is:
1. Am I too close to the screen?
2. What is a recommended viewing distance for the first and second row considering my room dimensions and projector selection( Lumens and Contrast )
3. Will it be a issue when watching non HD Content?

Any feedback would be helpful!

Not too close at all with that screen size. You could even get closer. It might be nice to move the second row closer up though.

Usually the rule of thumb for seating is all over the map. Stewart has done a lot of testing and would say the sweet spot (where you should sit) is about 3.3 times the screen height. Other say 1.5 to 2 times screen width for your first row.

It depends, largely on your personal preference as some people sit close to the screen in a commercial theater, and some sit farther away.

You're definitely not too close for the RS1 to handle since it is a 1080p projector but you may want to test the screen size with seating distance to verify there are no issues with it. Lawnchairs are helpful as you can quickly position them around the room and view the image upon your screen.

Non-HD content could be all over the map, depends on your source if you have a scaler, upconversion, signal strength etc. No SD source is going to look phenominal because of the limitations of the source, not the projector.

Hope that helps!

My room is about the same size as yours. I sit 14' back from a 106" screen. My second row is 19' back. My first row could be a little closer and my second row is way too far back. However my wife likes the second row and I like the first.

My Theater is 16'4" X 13'3" I have 2 rows of seating . The screen is 119" diag. HP dalite. The RS1 is mounted about 15' from lens to screen. The first row of seating is a couch with eye's to screen distance a 9'4" . The second row is on a 13" riser and eyes to screen is around 15' to 16' depending on recline position. We love this setup and the front row is very imersive . I like the berklines in the second row of course. Good luck Johnathan

I'm sitting about 1.4 screen lengths from a 110" Carada BW screen. The RS-1 is ceiling mounted about 14' from the screen. This set up works well for me. I don't think I would go much closer than this though.

I had an RS1 in my theater for about 6 nights, and I sit 10.5' from a 119" diagonal HP.

There was absolutely no issue with HD material, and SD looked very decent as well, assuming it was good source material.

I am of the face-in-the-screen persuasion though. So factor that in.

Thank you for your input. What are your thoughts on RS1 after seeing it in action? I have not bought one yet , so your feedback would be helpful. Thanks.

I'm sitting 2 screen heights from a 16:9 screen 3.5m wide. Quite immersive and no problem. Differences in HD sharpness are very apparent. The best titles still look excellent and not soft.
