Infocus IN76 and Playstation3 HDMI issues

Thread Starter
Hi - set-up is Sony 5200 Amp, Playstations 3, Xbox 360 and Toshiba DLP with HDMI input. Problem I am having is PS3 works perfectly on the TV (HDMI to amp then out to TV) but will not output to the Infocus In76 projector. Projector copes fine with component signal from Xbox with no issues!
Things that have been checked
- Video upscaling turned on and at all settings,
- component input removed from projector
- Checked HDMI cable and it is working
- Checked PS3 direct to Projector with no joy
- Checked HDMI is enabled on projector

Anyone got any ideas? All help appreciated.
Thanks

Update:
Just spoken to the dealer in relation to this issue. Have been told to lower the output resolution on the PS3 down to 720 to allow a proper handshake to occur between the device. Dont feel so bad now as dealer spent 5 hours trying to solve this problem before finding the answer!
Will be trying this out this evening and will let you all know!
Next challenge will be to find a decent cheap splitter so I dont have to keep swapping the HDMI cable out from the projector. Seen a very cheap solution on ebay $2.99 but not sure if this will work.... then again for that money it is worth a try.
Appreciate the responses to date.

Hmm... that sucks cus I just got an IN76 and hooked up my 360 to it and it is working fine as well but I don't have a ps3 but I was going to get one. I hope you can figure out the problem cus I wanted to get the PS3 for Blu ray. By the way, what resolution do you have your xbox 360 set on 720p or 1080i? I just got my IN76 and was wondering which setting would look better for games or movies.

Ya, potential bummer. I have an IN76 and was considering a PS3 for a Blu-ray player.

Jack_Abz - a few questions:

How long of an HDMI cable are you using w/ the PJ?

What is happening on the IN76? Blank screen? Error message?

Have you verified the HDMI input works on the IN76 by trying a different source device besides the PS3 (DVD player for ex.)?

I have a PS3 hooked up to my IN76 and I have no issues at all. It is a direct connection.

ps - Resistance Fall of Man with surround sound, the IN76 and a 11 foot screen is so engrossing it will make you want to puke (in a good way) So, get it working!

The PS3 is very likely not in HDMI output mode. Turn your projectr on and select the HDMI input, then turn on the PS3. When turning the PS3 on, keep your finger on the power mark until the PS3 makes a second beep. It should then search for HDMI and ask you to confirm the settings.

Worth trying, but fyi it doesn't matter on mine. I can feed it 1080p, 1080i or 720p from the PS3 and the IN76 will handle it.

This is no doubt your best bet - this little procedure is sort of buried in the PS3 documentation, but it's the only way I can get my AE900 to see the HDMI output from the PS3 if I have to switch it to component for some reason for a while.

Just turn on the PS3 from the power button on the front and keep your finger on it until it beeps a second time, it's very obvious. It will start out in a lower resolution, but you can change it from there. Changing the resolution lower when connected to another display may not solve the issue.

Is your In76 updated to the latest firmware version? Version 2.9 is the latest and greatest. There is a quite a list items which were addressed since version 2.1, the original firmware. That being said, I'm having zero issues running my PS3 via HDMI to my In76. It works like a champ, irrespective of the settings I use on the PS3. I currently have the PS3 set to accept all resolutions. As a result, the PS3's XMC runs at 1080p/60, Blu-ray movies at 1080p/24, and PS3 games at 720p or 1080p/60 based on the supported resolution per game. All look fantastic on my 16:9 100" fixed projector screen via the In76. :-) My A/V receiver is not HDMI capable unfortunately, so I'm running the HDMI output of the PS3 directly to the In76 and the optical output to my A/V receiver.

Depending on the quality and length of his HDMI cable it might not be able to pass 1080p, but can pass 720p. If that is the case and he wants to send 1080p to the projector then he should look into an HDMI active equalizer extender. If his TV is 1080p he might want to send 1080p to the projector so that he does not have to go into the PS3 menu to change the display setting back and forth or settle for 720p on the TV.

Before you guys get into full blown troubleshooting mode, this thread is over a year old. The OP's problem is no doubt long since solved.
