Any early Dawn of the Dead reviews?

Thread Starter
Just wondering if any of you folks who have things shipped early have received this yet? Wondering if it's worth the upgrade.

Thanks!

Very excited about this release, got my preorder in...I'll post if it gets shipped early.

Oh man I can't wait for this one.

Haven't seen it since its original run in the theatres, and man am I pumped for its hidef debut.

Hopefully it gets a solid transfer and some new features

The SD DVD looked great so I bet the HD DVD is going to look awesome. Got mine preordered and can't wait. Been in the mood to watch this again.

Fingers crossed that its uncut this time, instead of digitally covered up like the naked lady was last time in america for standard dvds. But thats a long shot, very long.

How early do HD DVD reviews ussually hit the net?

Universal generally doesn't pass review copies along that far in advance. The site I review for used to not get them until street date, but they've been showing up recently a few days/a week before street.

It looks pretty good on starz hd, so I have high hopes for this disc.

The first 10/15 minutes of this movie on HD DVD ARE GOING TO BE SICK.

Unless they very recently got a new transfer, it's always aired as an SD upconvert on Starz-HD.

Just wanted to post that my copy of Dawn of the Dead has been shipped earlier today, so I should be getting it at the beginning of next week...If no other reviews are up by then, I'll give my impressions.

From what I recall the standard DVD version had some specks here and there. If they use the same master I expect about a 4 out of 5 for PQ.

Its a very grained, pushed into extremes film, will be intresting to see how it looks so detailed on HD, hopefully not as grainy as 300 was. They may suprise us and use a nice new cleaned up master as well, as the new scenes added into the film are very dirty and a mess, wouldnt take them too much effort to clean them shots up.

As long as it beats the current best version on standard dvd (the Japanese Edition) then I will be very happy, I think there is no doubt its going to blow that away in every way (apart from the blurring of naked lady maybe).

I have the japanese version and it is the best of all the releases (double dipped on this one ). I would imagine it will build upon the reg 2 sd dvd...I have high expectations for this title.

I imagine just like the DVD, it will have the 'censored' blood over the girl with boobs zombie.

The Canadian Version is unrated, as was our SD version. Funny that in Canada all our movies are unrated, yet you guys in the USA get the 'CareBear versions.'
I'm confident that Uni will not disappoint with this release. As long as it looks better, and sounds better but with TrueHD its gotta right?
God I hope the American version isnt censored then, as the Canadian version would be my first choice if that is not censored thats for sure. I have the American one on the way.

But hell no way on earth this could disapoint surley
post #18 of 111
both say unrated.

Is it possible there can be two versions of unrated directors cuts?

Well not 2 official versions so to speak, just America does not want Boobs on their Unrated dvd, they let peoples heads get blown off, stabbed in full gore glory, but boobs Noooo!!!!!

Canada I guess does not mind boobs nor does the rest of the world, as only America had there origanal Unrated dvd censoered.

So I guess there are two versions, Americas Unrated, and the rest of the woprlds Unrated

Yeah, I have the Hong Kong DVD for the "international" unrated version.

Granted, the "unrated" unrated version isn't that much different, the woman's boobs (a survivor of the bus accident that Polley encounters in the beginning) aren't that good looking anyway.

^^^ Well i guess thats ture. I am Canadian and I wil fully admit that I dont mind boobs.

On a serious note, its only 1% of the american pupulation which makes 99% of the noise against things like nudity. religious fantics etc. A shame really.
I have the unrated version here in the US. now i need to see it again, from what i know there was some nudity in that version.
I've got this one on order. Must have imo.

I have the Japanese version as well, and when I finally watched the North American unrated DVD, I noticed that along with the woman's breasts being digital obscured, the extra footage edited back into the film looked noticeably worse. The Japanese edition's extra footage looked just as pristine as the rest of the film. I don't know what elements Universal used for the SD DVD, but there is a better version to use already.
So can anyone confirm yet if the US version will have boobs? Because if I'm buying an unrated copy, I want the unrated goodness of the natural gifts of god!

I am almost sure that it is a web page error.. but why does 'Blockbuster.com' list a used version of this movie for sale on HD-DVD?
Dawn of the Dead (2004)
http://www.blockbuster.com/outlet/ca...ditions/230678
Notice the image is of a HD-DVD box not the SD-DVD box...
Or else they are misadvertising the item!
I ordered then sent a email to the online store stating to cancel the order if not shipping the '_HD-DVD_' version of the movie as pictured on the web page... will let you know what happens next..
