I also have my Pioneer 94 bi-amp with very good results.

Base upon your music and other mixed uses playing thru the 94, I would also suggest for external amps, PS Audio.

They have some interesting technology in their products. I think you are developing an awesome system.

Hi, new to this site. I'm interested in the VSX-94TXH. Hoping people here can give me some opinions/advice. I have ribbon speakers BG Radia 520's which are 4 ohm. I have currently a Yamaha RX-V3300. It has been an extremely reliable receiver but it offers no HDMI, networking, or newer surround modes. I also will be forced to ditch my dbx processor since no receiver is now made with a pre out main in anymore. I own a wireless music bridge which streams music to my yamaha but I figure the receiver will do this better. My big complaint is that my Yamaha seems BRIGHT/COLD/HARSH as described by others especially when cranked. SO, these are the receivers I am interested in. Please help me with advice on choosing one since there are no local shops around here that carry these model. 1. Pioneer Elite VSX-94TXH @ $1100. 2. Onkyo TX-NR905 $1550. 3. Denon AVR-4308CI at $1950. 4. Denon AVR-3808 @ $1150. 4. Yamaha RX-V3800 @ $1100. Also, do any of you know if the pioneer has a direct audio mode for true pure 2 channel audio? My main use of a receiver is audio followed by video. I also own a lot of MP3's. I'm ready to buy so your input is appreciated. thanks!!

First, make sure that any of the 4 avr's you quoted are from authorized dealers and check from the manufactures website or call the manufacture to confirm.

You can read my post # 1690 in this thread about my opinion on the VSX-94TXH. I am using the 94 at this time for HT.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...vsx-94&page=57

The processor on the 94 is the MCACC, which is built by Open Air Studios for Pioneer. It also has the advanced software option if you really want to fine tune your audio.

I would check with BG Radia to see if the speakers can be bi-amp. I do remember that they are geared for bi-wire, but bi-amp would be the better case. The 94 does do bi-amping, in fact, I would advise to bi-amp the ribbon. A ribbon like your size likes allot of power. Your sound stage will open up.

Alot of other owners of the 94, use the 94 as a pre-amp and have great success. The 94 gives you a lot flexibility.

Their is a direct stereo function on the 94.

These are bi-ampable but basically I have to be honest. I have the money for these toys and know a decent amount about some of it, but I don't know what bi-amping is. I went from a pair of Radia Z7's with a 3" tweeter to the 520's with a 50" ribbon section so I really want to get the best sound as possible. This is why I am asking people opinion on what receiver to get. Or maybe should I go with a preamp and amp setup? I do like the looks and features of receivers better but I haven't looked at preamps lately.

In short , to bi-amp your speaker, you provide a power source directly to the bass/mid bass driver, the 6" drivers and a power source to the ribbon. The crossover looks at them as two different speakers, whereas, if you had one power source, the crossover has to do alot of work to sepreate the signals and process them. Alot of the audiophile folks like to bi-amp their speakers in order to get the most out of them.

Right now, their is not alot pre-amps out their with the new HDMI and Audio formats. I personlly do not like the Onkyo and Interga pre-amps. My next move is to make the 94 into a pre-amp.

Check out post # 1382 by member Legairre, it is about the 92 which is similar to the 94.

Can any of the RCA component connections on the 94 be used to connect a Turn Table?

thanks for the replies. another question. I currently have a wireless music bridge for streaming audio to my receiver but the quality is sub-par. This is why I'd like the network jack. Right now I'm feeding totally wireless. BUT, my router sits 2 feet away from my receiver and my router is wireless. All I want to achieve is the ability to streaming audio wirelessly from my laptop to my router and then wired to my receiver. Can this be done? I don't want to have to hook up directly into my laptop a bulky cat5 cable that stick out of the side. Also, why the 94txh over Yamaha. Any feedback is appreciated. I'm still thinking 94, or yamaha 3800, or denon 4308 or 3808. 4308 only for wireless if i can't streaming wireless to my router.

Thanks. My 94 won't be here for a few more days and I got to thinking I might want to get a Turn Table to now and then play my old High School and College LPs. I figured a Turn Table could be connected but I just wanted to be sure.

In Canada here I cannot find it for any cheaper than 1750 (on sale too), which is fine with me.. I'll get it. But I see a few people on eBay selling them brand new for like 1300 dollars..... ???? I go to the American site and it still has it listed for 1600, this isn't that old of a unit is it.. so .. what gives with the super low price?

I probably still cannot get it from eBay anyway considering all sales to Canada are final, and warranty issues. I don't want to risk it. And I don't mind paying more, but I don't understand how it can be so cheap on eBay but anyone I find it in the US or even in Canada its price is quite a lot higher.

During the Boxing Week Sales, I had seen one notable retailer in Hamilton Ontario Canada selling the Pioneer 94 for $1600.00.

Sure, assuming your router also has wired ports. Connect wirelessly from laptop to router (access point), then ethernet from router to AVR. If your router doesn't have a built-in hub (i.e. the only network port it has is the one feeding it from your DSL or cablemodem) then just replace it with an access point w/built-in hub (most have it).

Can i select internet radio stations to save as presets WITHOUT the remote? I am still waiting for my remote to come to me and I can only do things in regards to HMF using the receiver manually.

Thanks

I have a question for DirecTV users. How do I set up the 94's remote to control my
H20? I've tried the following with no luck:

-Hold down RECEIVER and SETUP
-go to PRESET
-press DVR1 (which I have my H20 set to).
-went to D and selected D* ANTEN
-tried CATV 732 and 733

No response from the H20.

I've even tried switching my H20's remote from RF to IR with no response.
Thanks.

thanks so much - i do have a hub built in my unit. The more i read about this unit the more I'm leaning to get this model. In fact, I just bought a Pioneer Elite DV-46AV dvd player tonight new in box for $99. It was a misprint so I nailed them on it. THanks again.

You should be able to do it through the pioneer.vtuner.com website.

Has anyone figured out how to access Home Media Gallery using a Harmony 890 remote?

Yes. You have to learn the button (I called mine InputHMG). You'll also need to learn the 4-way toggle and select buttons with the 94txh remote in HMG mode also. The codes that the 94txh remote sends for those buttons varies depending what input mode the remote is currently in. Very annoying.

EDIT: I can't remember for sure but there might be other mode-specific buttons you'll need to learn. Return might be one of them.

I've searched through this post and the VSX-92 and haven't found this problem yet (I think). I have the 92 hooked up to the A35 HDDVD. I'm fine on sound now, but any time I try to change the output of the A35 to 1080P or 1080P/24hz, I get the "not supported" error on the receiver. Any thoughts as to what I'm doing wrong? I'm running this to the Mits HC4900 projector, all via HDMI.

Of all the posts, it seems the only answer is to try and switch the order that things are turned on.

Curious, why are you changing formating? and while things are on?

I have had to do a couple 1080P/24 to 1080P/60 on the fly for a SD DVD to get some menu abilities, but haven't received the HDMI handshake issue. It does seem that PJs seem to offer more issues on connections than other items.

Sorry, that really doesn;t help you does it. I would suggest a full shut down, then startup.

I would not think the 94 is the issue. It is just telling you the issue. Don't shoot the messenger!

I've gotten the Not Supported message a few times and it just goes away in a few seconds. One thing I noticed on the A35 is I have to turn it on last or the HDMI hand shake messes the Audio Out up. If I don't I cant choose the HD Audio. When I turn the A35 off and back on all seems to work.

I don't know what causes the problem. I was having it when I tried to get 1080p/24hz to show on my plasma. Then I switched outputs and got it working with my projector and when I went back to plasma it was working fine. To me, that seems like some sort of HDMI handshake issue.

why change while it was on. noticed that it was outputing in 1080i and wanted to change it to 1080p since that is what the machine can do. is there a way to change it while it is not on?

ok, most of my audio playback will be from MP3, i know i know, but the denon 3808 has a feature called audio restorer which claims to uncompress the audio files to make them sound in their original quality. The pioneer mentions nothing of this but claims to play FLAC files which is a new term to me. From what I read it is a lossless audio codec. What i want to know is how do i make my MP3 files FLAC files? Or can I? Also, anyone know how the Denon really does with the audio restorer compared to the FLAC files?

I donot think you can go from MP3 to FLAC you can go the other way. You might be able to but I have not seen a program to do it yet.
good luck with it.
From everything I have found and read once a song is compressed into MP3 it can't be converted to a FLAC file. If anyone knows a way it can be done I would to hear how it is done.
