The "Official" VSX-94TXH Thread...:0) - Page 98

I thought it was strange that no one responded to my predicament, but so help me I can't even find the question I posted. So here goes again and apologies to all if it did appear somewhere. I wanted to set up my speakers with the room calibration via the microphone, but I don't end up with anything on my Pioneer Kuro plasma screen, yet the LCD screen of the 94txh shows "Start" when I follow the instructions in the manual for the MCACC approach. What could be the reason for this ? I am using a HDMI connection from the 94txh to the TV. Thanks.

I can't remember for sure since it been a few months since I setup my 94 but I don't think you will see any info about the MCACC setup sequence on your TV the info just appears on the 94 itself. Don't quote me on this though I could be wrong.

It would work, but the quality of the video over a single component or video cable (basically just a composite RCA cable) would be pretty poor compared to using HDMI. I watch HD and digital cable while listening to CDs and that would look really bad over a single composite video cable.

Legairre, I think it's about time you re-post your XBR4 settings in the calibration thread. Dudes are posting some seriously hurting settings in that thread these days. Mine is 99% true to yours and I haven't been in the picture menu for months (my girlfriend thanks you too!).

You should have a setup menu on your TV during the MCACC process that shows every step MCACC is going through not just on the 94 display.

Here's a few of the screens you should see:

Attachment 109702
Attachment 109703
Attachment 109705

Do you have HDMI control turned on or off? Also just for the fun of it can you hook up a single RCA cable to the 94 MONOTOR OUT and run it to your TV. Make sure your on the right TV input too and that should at least give you a screen so you can see things and start to resolve the issue. Monitor out always outputs a signal no matter what happens.

Here's a pic of where monitor out is on the 94. It's the one with the bent arrow pointing to it.

I don't think it was me with the XBR4 settings, because I don't have a Sony TV. I bet it was someone with a name similar to mine that made you think it was me.

I set up mine the same way with just the HDMI cable from the receiver out to my Pioneer Plasma. The only other thing you must do is turn the TV on and select the HDMI input you connected the receiver to, turn on the receiver then push the button marked receiver on the remote, then push the setup button on the remote and in a few seconds the setup menu appears on the TV screen.

Is there any kind of volume limiter in VSX94? You know, to kill the (*&#^%$ yelling commercials...

No, I think the new 1018 has that new feature.

That's why I also mentioned component cables. It's been argued that there's relatively no differencve between them and HDMI and if any difference , very slight.
Ah now I understand. That would work and then you'd just have to switch the input on the TV to the component input vs. leaving it on the HDMI input. I've tried component and HDMI on my Mitsu HC1500 projector, but HDMI has much better colors. Also things with component are washed out and the picture isn't as sharp compared to HDMI. That'sj ust my setup yours may be different.

Rip them in FLAC and you wont have a problem. I believe the previous posters problem is that his tracks are in Apple lossless. The 94 doesn't recognize those. It does however recognize FLAC which is a lossless compression.

You have helped me with advice before...Now I have a real stumper for you...

I just got the DVE essentials HD DVD and Blu Ray discs and wanted to re-calibrate my theater with them and the 94...

Problem...Every time I push the set up button the receiver guess what...It cuts off the HD or Blu inputs and I can't do anything...

Any advice on a workaround? Can the OCD be disabled temporairly? Help!

Thanks

Are you just trying to adjust the speaker levels with the DVE test tones?

Yeah, I would like to...What do you think?
^^ There is a way via remote, posted somewhere in this or the 92 thread but I cannot remember the exact post/er.
The 94 works the way most receivers do if you go into setup, the OSD shuts off any other display. Unless I'm misunderstanding you all you need to do is hit the CH LEVEL button on the remote, and then use the VOL +/- to increase or decrease the channel level while you run the test tones from DVE. The channel level will be displayed on the 94 display and you can keep the DVE display on your TV monitor.
^^ Yes, that's it.

Thanks legairre. In my head it made sense that it could work that way but thought maybe I was missing out on something. With my Pioneer plasma HDMI might give a little better picture, but nothing that really jumps out and says it's definitely better. Might be my mind adjusting my eyes, lol.

It "0" on the remote. Just make sure you hit "receiver" on the top of the remote first. Now that I think of it did you mean you wish you knew where you put the remote or where the CH LEVEL is on the remote?

Doing well thanks! Haven't had as much time as I'd like to spend here, but always catch up when I can. The time & effort you put in to support everyone here is mind boggling.

See you around

Good to see you again. It's really not that much time, I just dart in and out every now and then.

Just keep hitting ch level. Everytime you press ch level, you get the next channel. It will cycle through all the available channels.

Thanks, Legairre, I figured it had to appear on the TV for the manual says to turn on your TV and besides I don't see how those menus could appear on the 94's display. I haven't turned on the HDMI control because I seldom need the 94's sound processing just when I watch regular TV. I checked all the TV's HDMIs just in case one was misconnected, but still nothing appears on the TV screen. I guess I could switch on the HDMI control, if that is imperative, just for the MCACC calibration. I'll give it a try. Thanks again.
