Hey guys..I finally got my LR finished and powered by a B stock Pio 94, it sounds really good. I know the surrounds and rears are a bit high but they sound really good. Thanks for all the help and information. Before I read this thread, I set my gear up and was not all that happy with my results. I was considering purchasing a sub eq and a seperate amp (well, the amp [Emotiva MPS2]is still in the picture when the money is right) After reading the thread and making a few minor changes based on your questions and feedback to each other, I am really feeling like I spent some good money. The biggest diffrence I noticed is the tightness and punchiness of the sub. I mean it sounds better than it has in the little more than a year that I have owned it. My daughter (16) even said to me that the overall sound is clearer and more open. I cannot thank you guys enough. Sorry for the long post. I am just so happy about this. My 890s are singing like birds.

Thanks again for the help.

what is B stock, and how do you know its "B" stock? Is there a way to tell before you buy?

The B stock items from Pioneer are in a brown box with just the word Pioneer on it unlike the A stock white box with all the descriptive information all over it.

I have found with Pioneer their B stock pretty much looks identical with all brand new accessories and paperwork. Sometimes all it might be is a manufacturing blemish in the finish on the back of the unit that makes it a B stock item otherwise it is new. The main difference is the box and only a 90 day factory warranty.

Does anyone know if you can view photos from your home pc through the receiver using home media gallery?

Thanks,

Page 5 of the seperate Media HG manual says "no". Movie and photo files cannot be played back.

I've never tried though, just 'cause it says "no", I don't think necessarily it won't. Probably means Pioneer doesn't support it or can somewhat 'guarantee' it.

It will only play music files but it does a good job at that and displays the titles as it's playing them. I also have a Pioneer 95 Blu-ray player and that does play the photos and video files including HD video files.

Anyone have an idea of how I can avoid this? My only solution I can think of is to set the #4 to TV instead of HDMI 4. I was trying to avoid this though. Thanks

It stuck on +12 DB and didn't move no matter which way I turned the knob. Tried the remote and it had no effect at all either. Had to power the unit off. Then I turned it back on and it went back to my normal -16 db and the volume control now would change the volume level. Whoa here. This is not good. Anybody have a 94 that does this same tirck?

Wow, I would hate to have that happen. I have started seeing 92's locking
up to where the volume & everything freezes up & you can't even turn it off!
Fixed 3 last week for that problem. Now I suppose the same thing could cause
the volume to jump to max. I wonder if it is jumping to full or if it is incrementally increasing to full. The problem I am seeing with the 92's also affects the 94's as well. I do not know the exact serial# ranges off the top of my head but many receivers may develop this problem. More likely to happen after the unit warms up. I take you are out of your return window? If not take it back.

That's what I did. All the HDMI ports are assigned to TV/BD/DVR instead of just the bare HDMI port listings. This way you can get to the input w/ a Harmony.

FWIW, the MAP has changed to $1400 according to my local authorized dealer. I guess the pending VSX01/03 and SC05/07 rollout required an adjustment in price.

I have a new 94 . . . I need a little education . . . what is Neural Radio?

I can,t even get any decent AM station and get only a few passable FM stations and I'm only 25 miles from the downtown of a city of 4 million people!

HMG? Plugged up a flashcard in the USB port with music and pictures on it . . . nothing!

And, since the Pio 94 has a USB port (and a network connection) why can't we download and install our own firmware updates?

It does do good music, blu-ray, and HT, but what am I supposed to do? Find a pio dealer to do the updates with everyone that comes out?

I bought my 94 two weeks ago. Got it home and says it was manufactured in January 2008. I suspicion I have major old firmware problems.

I am beginning to wonder if I got the wrong receiver. I am disappointed and don't know what to do . . . I liike the receiver . . . but . . . I just don't know what to do now . . .

Man, this feels too much like whining and therapy! :-)

My brother & I both have the 94's, got it in January 2008, both manufactured in November 2007. He called me today & said the exact same problem--volume is locked & cannot do anything. only way was to pull the plug & now his 94 wont turn on..its dead.

what to do help? Thanks

You need to connect the network port on the back to a network connection the same as you would connect a computer. Then select the Home Media Gallery and then you can select the option such as Neural Radio, Etc. Or the USB thumb drive. You really need to read the manual, it explains everything in detail.

I use mine all the time to access internet radio stations, Neural radio and all the music in my desktop hard drive. You can choose by Genre, Artist, Album and it even displays the song title while it is playing it.

I have just copied the entire album files with wma music files on to my USB drive plugged it in and they played with no problem.

It seems really hard to understand after never hearing of this problem before why after one poster mentioned the 92 lock up problem and having to fix three of them and that the 94 also could be affected by the same problem all of a sudden people are having the problem on their 94's.

Yes, the volume change was instant, no incremental change. However, the dealer I bought it from in San Diego, had me ship it back in it's original box and has sent me a new one. I cannot get better service than that. I would buy from him again in a heartbeat. I also decided to put a dual fan unit on top of the chassis to eleminate any heat problems.

I am scheduled for mid next week...

I appreciate the heads up on the separate upload for HMG. I knew that they refer to the overall firmware version (currently 1.6 I believe Pioneer told me? - not sure) and also to the network firmware version (I am at 3.5.15.6534) so I will be sure and give them the heads up as well.

Hi Dasher,

I was just curious how things are going with your firmware upgrades. Did you get the receiver back yet? Hopefully your Neural Radio issue is resolved.

Who is the dealer in San Diego? Honesty goes a long ways with me. I might buy something from him.

Geez this thing with some 94s and 92s going to full volume is scary. My Allison Ones are now $5300 a pair and I don't want them blown!

What would one get in the new SC-07 over the 94? Anything worth a grand?

How many users have had the volume increase issue? So far the only one I know of is bobodude.

I agree with you. The volume going to full is probably an isolated issue.
For now, lets not assume it is connected to the locking up problem.
By the way the locking up problem can affect the VSXLX60 & 70
models as well.

Unfortunately, if he can't get it exchanged, he will have to have it serviced at
an authorized Pioneer service center. Also, and this is to everyone, Do not let
anyone service your unit for this problem if they tell you a firmware update will fix it because it won't & you will have your unit back into their shop (or another shop). Also if they don't know of or have never heard specifically of this problem, find someone else.

Hi guys. Obviously this is my first post. I'm a newbie to the forum but not to the HT world. I've looked around this site for quite some time but never had a reason to register. I do now...

I just recently upgraded my receiver to the 94TXH. I don't have a ethernet connection in my HT room. I do have a wireless router / modem downstairs (2Wire from SBCGlobal). Question is, can two wireless routers be connected together? I doubt this, but I thought I'd throw it out there. If not, my only other route is to start punching holes in the walls and create a hard-wired network. Also, if I did go this route, what would be more practical, a switch or a router?

I would greatly appreciate any and all responses and sorry if this is the wrong thread to be posting these kinds of questions.

I believe so. The non-internet facing router should bein Ad Hoc mode or that is what I believe. It should make it act as a plug in wireless card per se. Hope this helps. I have a couple of wireless routers lying around so I will try it myself.

Does anyone know if the remote for the vsx94-txh will give you full control of the pioneer pdp-5010fd plasma tv.

You just need to get a wireless print server that will connect to the wireless router just like a laptop does. I placed it near my 94 receiver and 95 BD player and plugged both into the wireless print server and that connects to the wireless router and it allows both to access the internet and my desktop hard drive and it works great.

No joy yet. The service shop did not even start to look at it until last Friday, and they now inform me that they are having problems with the HDMI. ?!? That seemed to happen as a result of me asking them to check into all updates (firmware, network, HDMI, DSP...). Even if they get things figured out by tomorrow, I will have been 4 weeks without the thing! I will absolutely provide an update here when (or... gulp - if!) I ever see the thing again.

I do plan on letting Pioneer know what I think of their one authorized service shop once I am through this. 3 weeks setting on their shelf before they even touch it is ridiculous, and their policy is that you are not in the queue unless they have your equipment. It has been a nightmare!

I think the easiest way to go wireless is an XBOX wireless adapter. They are (where) like $99 and are kind of idiot proof.

Sounds like the lockup and volume issue are coming now that the summer type of weather is coming. I wonder if heat or humidity is the culpret? Have 92 owners had the same problem as 94? I have a 92 with no problems (knoock on wood), but my theater is in a finished basement that is always pretty cool.
I am glad locking up and full volume issue is being aired here. I was interested in the coming SC-07, but now we have to wait and wait and see if they too are doing this. Guess we'll know when they come out in August 2008 and then we wait till the summer of 2009 to see if they have these issues. Very good chance I'll plunk my money down on something else before then. See how letting this go on is hurting sales, Pioneer?
