Running them as fronts?

What is the 94 set to in the ohm settings in back, when your running both 8ohm and 4ohm? Does the 94 simply know its running both, and make adjustments automactically? Please give DETAILED answers,THANKS
post #4477 of 4922
^^^

leave it at 8 ohm... it will be fine... it doesn't make any "adjustments", as it doesn't need to...

the only reason to switch it to 4 ohm would be if your avr was going into thermal shutdown... which it is very unlikely to do...

switching it to 4 ohm limits the current/voltage so that the power supply/other doodads do not overheat...

iow... don't worry about it...

All 5, full range at moderate volume just to see if it can handle it.

Ran the 4 ohm speakers with my H/K 7200 for a couple of days and it seemed to be fine as well.

Is there a 4/8 ohm switch or setting? I haven't seen one.

I use/buy nothing but used vintage polks like the RTA or SDA models for HT and 2 channel music. I tried a stock CSi3 center and it was too bright and harsh for music. I modified the cabinet to enlarge the hole for the tweeter and dropped in a used SL2000 tweeter from a SDA model and tamed the brightness http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/attac...hmentid=152794 and now have a match front 3 with my RTA11t fronts.

When i ran mac.my rear polks 90db ,both rears had a +10 setting and my fronts klipch 97db had -8 and -6.5 settings, and sub.was 7.5. My mic. was put in the center of the room,..Thus my question, why so HIGH on my rear polks? Is there a certain way or position or way to hold the mac. mike? Or is it the difference between dbs POLKS being 90db and KLIPCH being 97db
post #4483 of 4922
ryvez...

go to the first post on the pioneer sc-05/sc-07 thread... click on the link for "proper microphone positioning"... read that....

You probably connected your backs to the wrong posts. In a 5.1 setup, you need connect back surrounds to side surround posts (surround left and surround right) and disable the two back surround (surround back left and surround back right) outputs in the setup. Please refer to your manul for details if you have no clue.

Thanks foxbat121,You are right on the $!! surround L, surround R, Press STANDARD on your remote, and all is good,THANKS. DO you set fronts and backs to SMALL,and sub. to yes,80hz? correct? Any other info. on 5.1 sound would be helpful,Iam a rookie,Thanks again
post #4489 of 4922
That depends on the characteristics of the speakers you have. If you have floor standing speakers with big woofers (dual 6" or 8"+), set to large. Otherwise, set them to small may works out better.

I do set mine to 80Hz as required by THX but my surrounds are all rated down to at least 80Hz. Read the specs of your surrounds to determine what's the best cross over for you.

Anyone know if volume operates digital or analog, in particular when using the multichannel analog inputs?

By the way, the phono stage in the receiver is mediocre. I bested it easily with a $200 Pro-ject Phono Box II USB (I have no use for the USB connection).

I'd still set the fronts to small. Every situation is different but with either Swan 5.1's or Infinity Beta 50's my system sounds better with the fronts set to small and the x-over @ 80. I let the sub woofer do what's it's designed to do.
Defintely try the different ways and decide which is the better sounding configuration. Different speakers have different outcomes. I have two JBL L880 towers, setting them to large but leave sub to PLUS sounds better to me. On my previous set up I have two bookshelf speakers. When set to large, those speakers sounds muddy and horrable because they try to produce lows they can't reproduce and dragged other sound with it.

Set the surrounds to small for the same reasons as the other speakers. You want the lower bass reproduced by your Sub rather than the small woofers in the surrounds

I just purchased a bluray player -Philips BDP5010 thats connected directly to my VSX-94txh.

I connected it via HDMI and also tried to connect via component and optical for audio.

My problem is this...

I set the Pioneer to Auto Surround and I can only hear the background music and not the people talking in the bluray movies. It only works when I set it to stereo. Do you know what settings I need to change to be able to hear the surround sound in the movie?

Setup is:
5.1 surround
Bluray was set to PCM and Bitstream and neither worked.

Is there a way to play just my surrounds without the fronts playing? Without rehooking them up as fronts, iam testing new polk tsi300s as surronds,i have klipch wf35s as fronts,97 db and thier sound is a power house. The polks are 90db,is that an issue?

Got some Great news today. My 94 which I purchased in Jan. '08 had quit powering up and I had had to ship it to a Authorized Repair Center. I was assuming since the 94 was over 2 years old it would be out of Warranty but the Company I sent it to contacted me today and told me they had repaired it and it was under Warranty and it was No Charge to me....
The volulme on my 94 only goes as high as +2,is this correct? I thought it went to +12.No matter how high i turn the volume knob,it looks to me like a safety measure
