^^
For the SC models, you unzipped & burned the file to a CDR as a wav file, then played it with a CD/universal player that is compatible. Some players are not. I don't recall if several SC owners successfully used BD players, but the old 59AVI/79AVI/47AI players work. It's not the nameplate that's important but the drive type/mfg. You may want to do a search in the SC-09 thread, and this one to see what people tried.

You HAVE to get into the service menu and set up which subsystem you are updating. While I have the svc manual for the SC-09, I don't for the 92/94 models. There is a member in Europe, "Hkan", who can make the file available on a website for dl; again check the SC-09 thread and this one in the Oct-Dec time frame for posts. He may also have the instructions.

My advice is to let the shop do it, but make sure they get the latest DSP flash file. It's not hard to do, but as long as you're taking it to a shop, let them do the whole thing for you. You always have diy as a fallback if they miss the DTS-MA fix file.

Is it possible to control this receiver using commands sent over Ethernet? I see three ports open, 80, 8080 and 6666 (irc, weird) but no idea of commands or parameters.

Cheers,
Chuck

Finally hooked up zone 2, and have a question after searching without success. Tuner works, so I know external amp & wiring are ok. When I plug in the iPhone, it pauses and won't play. How do I get it to unpause? Some combination of key presses got it to work, because I was hearing the Meat Puppets on my outside speakers (and they don't play such quality music on the radio). I can't recreate what I did.

If I plug the iPhone into zone 1, it pauses, but I can press the ENTER button to get it unpaused.

Thanks!

John

I think if you press the 'iPod' button on the remote to change the remote's input, the play button will work. I'm going off memory so I may be wrong.
No, that didn't work. Not much in the manual about it, either.
Hmmm, not sure what to tell you. I just tried it on mine and it worked as expected. Zone 2 set to iPod. Press the iPod button on the remote then use play, pause, etc. to control the iPod.

It's an iPhone, not an iPod. Anybody get an iPhone 4 working on Zone 2? It works on Zone 1.

I got it to play once, but I don't know the sequence of button presses I used to get there. Once plugged in, I lose access on the phone to control music, and the receiver controls don't respond.

Alright, just tried an iPhone.

1. Turned on Zone 2
2. Set Zone 2 to iPod
3. Plugged in iPhone
4. Opened music player on iPhone, screen said an accessory was plugged in.
5. Pressed iPod input button on the remote
6. Pressed play, pause, stop, next and they all worked fine.

iPhone 4 running iOS 5.

Excellent! Thanks VEXXD!

Can anyone advise on how to get all music to play automatically from an attached USB drive with the 94? I can select a single recording to play but want to just play all on the attached USB memory card. Thanks for any help

I have hkans files and I've read through them, is the way to get into service mode the same for the 94 as it is for the vsx-lx70? I haven't tried it yet, hence the question. smile.gif

Thanks guys.

Not sure how to get into the LX70 service menu/mode but on the 92 & 94 it's:

1)Turn the volume down until you see --
2)Turn off the receiver
3)Open front panel and press: "Enter" button and press: Source Rec/Sel ON/Off buttons at the same time

There is a difference in sound between the 1222-k and the vsx92, but they are both powerful, I'm still not sure which I like better. But the 92 has been retired.

Hi all,
I've got a VSX-94 I've had for several years but I've been ruluctant to ship it off to the service center for the firmware update. I recently downloaded the firmware and update software from HKan's site (thanks, HKan!) and obtained a null modem serial cable to perform the update. Unfortunately, my laptop does not have a serial port, so I tried using a Prolific USB to serial cable. When I started the update process, I was unable to get a signal from the receiver even though I confirmed the port speed was set correctly (both on the PC and in the update software). I suspect there's a compatibility problem between the USB/serial cable and the serial connection on the receiver.

Has anyone else had success updating the firmware when using a USB/serial cable or should I dig through my old computers and find one with a native serial port on it?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi everyone-

I just updated my firmware on mine finally (lots of issues finding CD-R burning software that burned properly and a player that passed the PCM through unaltered...) Anyway, while going through the service menu, I believe I screwed up my EX.SPP setting. I think the default is 1500 or 1400- not sure! Could someone check their unit to let me know what you have?

Instructions:

1. Set the volume of the receiver to --- (turn volume all the way down)
2. Turn off receiver
3. Press the ENTER key and Multi-Zone & Source/REC SEL ON/OFF key simultaneously for 3 seconds.
4 .Press arrow up or down until you see EX.SSP

Thanks so much! AL

Sorry for the late reply

I checked and mine said EX.SSP 1500 ms.

imagelss83, thank you very much for helping him out.

Thanks guys for your time and effort. I got my EX.SSP set back to 1500. I can now hook this puppy back up to everything!

FYI, I posted a question on bad capacitors over on the -92 thread. Thanks again! AL

I believe everything except for F - the latest is F 2.013. This helps for compatibility with Blu-Ray audio codecs- including the Star Wars Blu-rays.

that is a bummer...when I asked Pioneer and the installer they both told me 2.012 was the highest frown.gif

I think I will be waiting for 2.50 before doing this again smile.gif
post #4914 of 4947
Yeah Pioneer tells everyone 2.012 is the highest. a bunch of us got 2.013 from a member named HKAN (you'll find his post in this thread). if you need it let me know and I'll seed it to you with the instructions and you can load it yourself.
I had thought HKAN only did the 92TXH?
Works for both the 92 & 94. If you search this thread for HKAN you'll find that it works for both.
That is awesome...if you could shoot me the instructions and file, that would be great!
Sure I'd be happy to send it to you. Can you pm me your email address, it's in a .zip file.
Hi all-

Has anyone had the corresponding AVD7504 remote for the VSX-94TXH break? Mine wasn't registering button clicks often- so I changed the batteries of course. After I changed the batteries it doesn't seem to work at all. I've put in 4 sets of batteries that have all been tested- and it doesn't work. I didn't put them in backwards.

I see that they're $60 plus $14 in s&h, so not a huge deal- but curious if anyone else has had trouble. I didn't drop it or anything else! Seems strange that it broke right when I swapped out batteries.

Thanks, AL

Hi, I've just performed the updates on my VSX-LX70 using the serial cable, network and CD-R. Luckily it worked using my Panasoonic BDP-500 for the CD_R for the 1st DSP but the second just doesn't work? I get no blinking HDMI light, is it the same .wav file for both 1st and 2nd DSP?
