Added keypad to ABUS system, speaker hums

Thread Starter
I just added a 4th AKP2 keypad to my ABUS system (4th zone) that I install about a year and a half ago and I notice a small "hum" in the speakers. The speakers seem to perform fine when music is playing but between tracks there is definitely a noticeable "hum".

As I got up this morning and walked past the same speakers (hum is evident in both speakers even though they are 15 or 20 feet apart from each other), even with the system completely off, I noticed an even more faint "hum"...with everything off.

I've pretty much ruled out a defective keypad because I tried a different one with similar results. The speakers I'm using I share with my home theater system and they did not "hum" prior to installing the keypad.

I've also tried plugging into a different port on the AH484 hub to see if the port was bad but that didn't solve the issue either. Do I maybe have Cat5e or speaker wire running too close to electrical wires somewhere? Is it more likely a bad termination on the Cat5e cable at the hub? I do have a cordless phone installed in the wall roughly a foot to 16" away from the speaker (the phone requires electric). But again there was no hum in the speakers when I only used the speakers for my home theater.

Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. None of the other speakers in any of the other zones do this...

Thanks.

Tom

I would re-check your wiring to the keypad. Then use a small patch cable hooked up to the main unit to see if the keypad might be bad.
