Those who are Neutral have you Swapped HD-DVD titles for Blu-Ray titles?-

I have been looking through my collection (Roughly 130 titles) and it seems it is approaching a nearly 50/50 split in the amount of titles I have in both formats. I have however switched to purchasing mainly Blu-Ray titles (if they are released in both formats) and only purchase those Universal & Warner titles that arn't out in Blu-Ray on HD-DVD.

Going through my collection I have 20 HD-DVD titles (from the early days of HD-DVD which I started with) that have now been released in Blu-Ray. I can see in the near future Blu-Ray winning when Universal switches be that 2008 etc and don't want to be stuck with 2nd format, poor resale value etc.

Do people whom are format Neutral swap over there HD-DVD titles to Blu-Ray or just keep them?

i went from Blu to being neutral, so naturally i buy all titles in Blu besides universal films.

I've been neutral by both of my players being on gaming consoles. I have about 7 hd-dvd's and about 8 or so blu-ray discs so it's not that big of a deal for me. Several months ago I decided not to buy any more HD-DVD's as by purchasing them I'm only supporting the war going on longer. And with Disney being 100% on blu-ray and titles like Spider-man only on Blu-ray (plus BD outselling discs 2 to 1 over HD-DVD) I see BD winning the war.

Having said that, if I see Smallville Season 4 out on BD then I'll just totally switch over and sell my HD-DVD set. In reality though since there are players that will play both I bet future blu-ray players will likely play HD-DVDs and they'll be a collector's item for you .

No,I won't rebuy in Blu.I'll always have my HD-A1(well,as long as it's working),so no rebuying is necessary.I do buy mostly on BD now when the choice is there though.I didn't buy into HD DVD worrying about resale value and I've gotten great enjoyment out of HD DVD for over a year now,my investment has already paid off,I will not feel "stuck" with crap when BD wins.

I buy Paramount titles on HD DVD due to the main tracks being encoded at 1.5mbps DD+ (compared to Blu-rays 640 kbps DD).

Warner titles I buy on Blu-ray unless the HD DVD version has a superior audio track (such as Training Day having a TrueHD track exclusively on HD DVD). It also makes more sense to me to buy Warner titles with no advanced audio on Blu-ray. I just don't see the point of calling it Dolby Digital Plus when you limit the track to 640kbps like Warner does. Oh and the scratch resistant coating on Blu-ray doesn't hurt.

No.

...my usual mantra is that if everything is equal, for new purchases I pick Blu as my Panny is a far better beast than my Tosh A1. In the case where one is clearly superior to the other in terms of extras, features, or soundtrack, then I'd of course pick the better of the bunch.

I did, however, exchange a couple titles that I still had sealed, bought on HD DVD before I owned my BD player. Ironically for me, the film that made me decide to keep the player in the first place was a rental copy of Unforgiven, and I bought it a couple months later on a whim. Sealed, I'd exchange it for the BD, as it was my first test of seeing how Warner pop-up menus would work on BD. Other than that, I've still got a couple titles (like Departed) that I probably -would- have bought on BD (PCM vs. TrueHD is a wash, methinks), but still own on HD DVD with no thought of changing format.

Full Metal Jacket is the first HD DVD title I've actually got rid of - I really, really enjoyed watching it on widescreen, and the upgrade from SD was tremendous. If it weren't for the forthcoming SE, it would still be on my shelf. Being a Kubrick sucker, it's of course a no brainer to quintuple dip on this newest shinydisc release (sextuple if you're counting VHS!)

I plan for a very long time on having players for both formats, and I've pretty much resigned myself to having some films from the same director split by format just as they're split by studio. Heck, I still only own Paths of Glory as Criterion LD...

Thanks guys for the replys.

I went from Blu to neutral. If anything I've been swapping my BD titles of HD DVD such as Total Recall, Basic Instinct and Total Recall. Next on the chopping block are Underworld, Fantastic Four, RE and Silent Hill.

bad grammar, I meant:
"If anything I've been swapping my BD titles to HD DVD..."

So you owned Total Recall on Blu-ray then swapped it for the HD DVD version and now you own it on Blu-ray again?

ooops, I meant I've been swapping my BD to HD DVD. Bad grammar on my post.

Owning both formats does not make you neutral. If you favor one over the other you're technically not neutral.

yep...been doing it 6 months ago.

Nope.

I went from HD-DVD exclusive to neutrail back in Feb. I still buy all the neutral releases for my HD-A1 player over the BR copy because of the higher bitrate in sound and because i can enjoy the TrueHD tracks through the analog connection on my receiver. Hoping to get an HDMI receiver real soon and will start thinking on which would benefit the most in the end for my purchase

I have not swapped. I typically (well every time at this point) purchase HD-DVD over BluRay if the movie is in both formats.

Haven't yet, but I will if Warner does a separate BD encode someday. I'll also probably get rid of the Superman movies and get the ultimate set that will surely someday come to BD, hopefully via BD optimized encodes

I have not re-purchased anything in Blu-Ray, I do seem to buy HD DVDs still over Blu-Rays when given the choice. I do have 2 HD DVD players and 1 Blu-Ray player so I get more use out of my HD DVDs.

I did get rid of my Lake House and Lady In The Water combos for the BD counterparts. I will do the same with Superman Returns once the TrueHD BD-50 version is widely available.

Haven't gotten around to doing it for Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Good Night and Good Luck but I will when I catch a deal.
nah, I'm not planning on trading to BD versions, either.

Just about every title available on both is superior on HD-DVD in one way or another. Or they are equal. The only exception thus far is Sopranos.
Regardless of which format survives long-term, I would not re-buy HD discs just to get rid of one player at some point. Before either format goes away (if one ever does become dominant), dual-format players will probably become common, maybe the only kind available, and then it would be a moot point anyway.

I still have Laser Discs that I have not replaced with DVDs.
I haven't replaced any of my HD DVDs with their BD counterpart. If its available on both, I get the HD DVD. My A1 is more reliable than my Sammy 1200.

I've replaced Underworld Evo and Terminator 2 blu ray and got the HD DVD versions.
I haven't replaced any HD DVD's for BD's. When a movie is available in both formats, I prefer to buy the HD DVD version over BD. I did this for 300.
Why re-buy a disc when that money could go toward NEW titles? Maybe if this war goes one way or the other, I'll eventually get all the titles in the winning format by buying used, really cheap.

The T2 import of HD DVD looks much better than the BD version. It also includes the Director's Cut of the movie while the BD version only has the theatrical version.

It makes sense to me. Especially if you are a big fan of T2. You'll want the best version available.
