Wow, if this thing streets for $800 online right out of the box in early November, we could see it dip down to $700 by Christmas. Which lends a favorable outlook for combo players hitting $500, online, by next summer, leading to a $300 combo player next holiday season. (I know this is all just speculation) If this happens this way we will be well on our way to mass adoption of HD movies by '09.

And that's without the competition from LG's 2nd gen player too... They'll hit $500 street price before next summer IMO.
That is exactly what I wanted to hear (I am also seriously considering it)! I have never owned a Sammy anything, so I cannot speak from experience - just that of other happy, satisfied owners like you. Now, I only have two concerns with this player... will there be any "complications" with BD+ titles, and the fact that, while it is in effect a third generation Blu-Ray player, it is also a first generation HD-DVD player (for Samsung, at least)....
I think you're right to have those qualms. It took Tosh one practice round apparently to get it right. As for BD+, it is becoming a fact of life that there will be needed firmware updates to any player out there, and what will make or break these companies is how well they deal with issues when they come up.
I'd hold off until it gets shaken down some by the first big round of buyers/reviewers. If you're like me, personal satisfaction is much more important than being first.
Heh, the only thing that is keeping me from pulling the trigger now is the reliability of OnSale and the questionable 5.1 TrueHD over the 7.1 analog outs.
I fear this will NOT be BD1.1 compliant.
That would be a bummer. If I get a combo player, I want one that is 100% compliant on everything from both formats.
Can anybody confirm if it will be able to do BDJ???
They won't charge my account until it ships. She told me that it was shipping within 3-5 days. I'll believe it when I see it...
3 to 5 days? I thought this player wasn't due until October or November?
Let us know when it ships. If someone could test Dolby TrueHD 5.1 over the analog outs that would rock as well, I seriously doubt they would limit a $1,049 MSRP hybrid player to 2.0 TrueHD over analog outs, heh.

That's a good point. How has the LG dual player faired as an HD DVD player (not taling about features, which it obviously lacks; but operation, load times, skips, freezes, etc)?

Depends what chip went into it whether it's possible from a hardware standpoint; if it is they may add later via firmware. The link definitely doesn't advertise PiP on BD, though. Guess we'll have to wait and see. If not I may hold off for now. I am also not really surprised at the pricing, though I am at the availability (if true). Also note that this says it can do HD DVD at 24 fps (which I believe the LG can also do); but the Tosh's can't (yet; I think the update is supposed to be next month?).
Well if ANYONE gets this I hope they can test HD bitstream audio to an Onkyo AVR. I've got the 805 and IF it does I've got my cardit card ready!! Anyone know if any BD or HD-DVD dics allows bitstream out for HD audio?
I have the 905 standing by. I just ordered one a little while ago (number 8 on the list)...
Great joerod! I'll await your findings..... hope it really ships in the next few days. Also, don;t forget to create an "official" thread when you get it.

Also, pop the top and see what kind of chip and memory is in it .
Give them credit! They just called me to verify my order and make sure it is a legit sale. I asked her if they are getting ready to charge my card and she said yes. I then said you are not supposed to charge until you have them in stock. She then said we expect them in shortly(like very shortly)... I have a crazy feeling they are coming in sooner than expected... What happened to Nov 1st?

i'm guessing thats a mistake. everywhere it has been mentioned for ETA has been for november release. its not even on samsungs website yet. also amazon and abt electronics list it for november release as well.
They may be closer then we know. Especially if someone already has a hands on review with it... I don't believe them. Like it was already posted, I will believe it when I see it.

I think Amazon has gotten a tad conservative on their dates recently.
