yuck!

There's 2 different black versions you can select (bottom left of the page in the drop down), but I prefer the white. Although was hoping for more options.

Hey I like it!

Yeah, I don't like the new colors either. I simply can't read anything on a white background for any length of time. Its just really uncomfortable for me.

The classic theme is still there (retro)... What's the issue?

(I use the new black theme now btw)

The black should be the default. As odd as it sounds, I came to this forum back in 2000 because I liked the color scheme. Before that I was HomeTheaterForum junkie. The black is easier on the eyes and it sets this forum apart from other home theater forums...Among other things.

By the way, I think the fonts are a little too small now.

I would also vote for the black as default. White is the default used everywhere else... AVS should continue to have a unique (and a bit darker) look.

Hey the font size is back to "normal". Great!
I like the black better than the retro, the white is by far the worst.

I am going to have to try the Mobile on my PDA.

I have no huge issues with whatever AVS wants their site to look like. That having been said, I'm using retro right now just because I'm a creature of habit. Anyways one minor thing to point out - it could just be my browsers or something (Firefox, Camino, Safari, Webkit all on a Mac) but when I switch to retro I still see the second set of tabs as white. For example, "AV Science Store" through "Advertise" all go dark, but "Home" through "Logout" all remain white.

I've made sure that I don't have old stylesheets or images stuck in my caches anywhere, so I'm guessing this is just a peculiarity or limitation in the styling system for the forum software - but in case nobody'd noted it I'm just pointing it out.

Congratulations on the superb job all around you guys. I've worked in professional web design/development since its inception in the mid-90s and I know what a bear this sort of thing can be. You did an amazing job coming back up in only a few hours and even honoring old login cookies! I was amazed by that.

Cool new look to the forum. It's about time it was updated.

I say if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

By the way, I mentioned the font size being "fixed". It's only fixed for the retro style.
Well, it's not actually white, and it's hard to read because of that. It's actually a blue-grey, which doesn't give enough contrast. I really can't tolerate it for long.

Those of you who think white on black is clearer must be using cheap and nasty graphics card and/or monitor. And it isn't the only site with white on black - a certain well-known digital photography site is like that too.

I always used the AVS White anyway instead of the horrifically garish Retro. That was just fine. Now I no longer have any option for a black-less screen as even the default has black borders and flashes black between pages. Guess I'll be spending less time at work on AVS now... No "integrated" spell checker now either

I noticed it right away too! Very nice now!

I much prefer this color scheme. (Though I do agree the flashes of black between page loads is weird)

It's worth pointing out that this scheme is NOT white on black. It's a shade of gradient blue. ^_^

The yellow type on black is what kept me away from the site until I spotted the alternate color scheme.

I think it's a tricky situation since even the type of monitor a person uses (and how it's calibrated) plays a part on what can wear on a person's eyes.

OOOOh! The black skin rawks!!! I love it. I always liked the old scheme though, weird purple-yellow colors and all. Glad it's still there as an option.

MUCH BETTER - BLACK NOW, thanks for the heads up.

Yes my current monitor is a POS 10-buck goodwill 14" old CRT. My TWO 20 and 21 incher CRTs both blew up over these last few months. They were 1200 buck units in their day and offered exceptional clearity, black levels, and contrast.

And yes even using them White letters on black background was a hell of alot easier on my eyes than ANY whites.

My eyes are exceedingly sensitive to flicker and can see anyhting under 85 htz and I suspect even above at least subconsciously (or at least my eyes tell me).

white = flicker. My Optoma DLP offers me rainbows too, but I've learned to live with them.

I just bought a 1080x1920 37" LCD (referb for 585 bucks) - maybe since it has no scaning to do a white background will no longer hurt my eyes.

plus black sucks on LCDs anyway ;-/.

thank goodness for the retro option, my eyes were bleeding after the 2 minutes it took me to work out how to turn off the awful white option.

I just thought I got lost when I came to the site today

There is a style chooser in the lower left of every page. (It is the dropdown box)

Again, I agree! What was the point?
The previous black background was too cartoonish. (I changed it to white once I knew about that option.) This current look is more professional.
Is there a way to save the backgorund so I don't have to change it to black every time I come to the site?

**EDIT**
I found it in the Control Panel

Ahhhh, purple and blue with yellow text. Home again!
I like the new look!
I greatly prefer the new look. It is always easier to read black text on a white or light background. When was the last time you saw a newspaper that was black with white printing? Nice job on the new look.
