I emailed Mike Wilner, CEO of Insight, back in May, and this is his response:
"To be clear, this is not a standard merger with or sale to Comcast; indeed they have always had a 50% passive interest in all Insight systems. Comcast announced several years ago that they were interested in dissolving all of these types of partnerships which they inherited when they bought AT&T Broadband. At their request, we agreed to divide our systems so they will take over operating all of our northern Indiana and Illinois districts."
Though I/we are not in the Northern Indiana area, I have read on numerous sites that this will affect all of Indiana. Regarding HDNet, since Comcast has never reached an agreement with Comcast, I would say it is 100% certain that the channel will no longer be offered.
Also, I am afraid that as more HD channels are offered, the PQ will deminish as almost every service provider tends to take a "quantity over quality" approach. The macroblocking on some HD channels with Comcast is horrible. Even HBO with Insight is bordering on the edge of being unwatchable now.
Time will tell...
