Thanks in advance for any help you guys give me.

I always thought clouding was a result of a set that is too cool, meaning actual temperature. When I see slight clouding, it seems to dissipate after the set is on for awhile. Of course, we are in Boston which is cold lately.

Is this not accurate?

I also have the same box but you have to go to the settings button on the remote then click A for more settings, go to output formats and make sure you have all four of the settings selected. This should clear up the problem

Hi, I was just wondering how you even access the service menu? I'm not even gonna think about trying it, it's just that I thought I knew mostly everything there is to know about this set.

I get the impression that most of you think that vivid is ridiculous. I find it pleasing compared to cinema. I tried the settings mentioned recently for custom mode and find it looks too close to cinema (a bit dark and dull for me). Is this just a matter of personal preference or am I missing something?

Is there a consensus about the best combination of settings? Is it a different answer for SD and HD?

I am running HDMI from a Time Warner cable box and from an upconvert DVD player.

I would appreciate any advice.

I think that most people just watch this TV in Vivid, Standard or Cinema and never come here. Some of the Custom settings are good but I do watch the TV in Standard quite often depending upon what the PQ looks like.

i can't stand vivid on anything... too bright and washed out

Larone,

Thank you for sharing all of your knowledge with us. Greatly appreciated.

Every time I look at my 46" XBR, I will always think of you. I feel Sony owes you some royalties, because everyone that has looked at my TV picture quality, is completely in awe. And, I attribute that to your settings.

Thanks again, and take care. Hope to hear from you soon.

I watched the kids movie Monster House on Blue-Ray and noticed it a bit more grainy. Seems like some movies are this way more so than others. Anyone else ever notice this? If so, what do you do to negate it?

I'm new to the forum and am very thankful for the great information that all of you have posted.

After adjusting a few settings on my 52xbr4, I notice that during some scenes the picture is a little darker in the top two corners of the tv. Can someone please tell me how I can fix this?

Thanks in advance for the help!

In my opinion they are utterly excellent. I know I've said this before but I'm not driving myself crazy with settings anymore, time to set it and forget it. I am very pleased with the service I've gotten from my calibrators, they've made good and they're promise to send me updates when available.

- Please live with the settings for 24 hours for your eyes to adjust (unless you absolutely hate them). On each setting brightness can be adjusted up and down up to two notches to accommodate for room lighting and seating distance.

yup, that's the setting I used as well. Works perfectly IMO for BD and PS3 Games.

don't even need to have 2 separate settings

I have a history with this. I bought a 46xbr4 from CC and the picture was damn good. But the fan noise was a bit annoying and I thought I would try another piece to see if it was any better. Unfortunately the new one that I got a couple of days back has the same noise which I believe cannot be avoided.

I played oceans13 on my BD player last night (which btw was the first test to this new set) and I couldn't stand the noisy grains on the screen. It got me really concerned whether I gave away my good one for a junky. I am yet to try other movies.

If someone else had similar experience, please share.

Thnx,
Jay

Another movie you want to test your tv out with is "WE ARE MARSHALL".

I've seen pixelation while watching the action filled game scenes.

In my case, this may have been due to the satellite signal quality. But check it out to see how your set handles fast action with this one.
