[quote=speed08;11386912]A few photos of my xbr4 showing Jarhead in SD.
I need to save my pennies for a Blu-Ray player

Congrats ! Your CRT looks very sad !

I just wanted to add that mine, ordered from one call, came shipped with and attached to it's own wooden pallet with 2 dropschock sensors. I know it had had a good ride to my place.

Thanks gordong11 for the quick reply. I don't have the set yet or I probably would have caught that by looking on the back. I downloaded the manual and have been reading it before I order my new KDL-52XBR (can't decide between the XBR4 or XBR5, it will probably depend on what kind of deal I can get).

Thanks again...

Here is a good setting, but I need to see how it holds up, and what changes it needs. XA2 directly into the XBR4 via HDMI 1.3 cable. Calibrated using LOTR Fellowship, as it's a tough calibration.

Picture: 68
Brightness: 53

I'm not trying to be negative because those shots look great but I'd be interested to see the screen at night first before a passing grade is given on the backlight. Mine looks like that in a lighted room as well. Cut the lights and you get a different story.

Mine is with the lights off, mine is good though as you can see. It's probably a situation where 1 in 15 are bad, which is pretty good overall. that is very arguable though.

I don't see why it's so hard to get them to tighten the screws right at the factory!

Here is a pic of HD cable, using a SA 4600, 8300Not hooked yet, sorry for bad pic, but you can an idea of solid black levels. Doesn't do the XBR4 justice though.

I just wanted to show the blacks because the blacks on this TV are totally dope! IRL it's so sweet.

To those who swear their XBR4 lack clouds: is your LCD's mfg. date July or August?
Nice set up ny888, what stand are you using? does it allow you to move the LCD vertically?
OK, exchanged my tv, and the 2nd one has a single stuck pixel as well! This one is not as noticeable as the first 46XBR4 I had. It seems like this one is smaller, is it even possible for a part of a pixel to be stuck? No one else seems to have any stuck pixels, so I guess I happened to luck out twice!? Is it possible for it to get worse? If not I don't mind settling for this set.

I don't think it can get worse. Pixels are either dead or alive. How did you find it, just by looking at your screen or checking it with special software? If one dead pixel can not bee seen with your eyes, I don't even want to bother and check mine not to get upset.

Oh, mine was made July 2007 in Mexico and has a big cloud

Thank you.

SD TV shots on this thread look nice. is there anyone here that owns an onkyo 875 or a 905 receiver ?

I need to know if the Reon is worth getting if you have a XBR4. Thanks.

or can you guys comment on the TV's scaler? Thanks.

That mount is an optional accessory and does allow you to adjust the height but I am not using it. I'll just have the TV sitting on top of it.

fyi

I think clouding issue are more reported with 46" and above models, this is my second Sony, my V2500 had no issues as well. Most people with 40" versions report a great product, so it seems anyway. I think most of the 46" are good too, kind of the silent majority. I would be so pissed myself if I spent 3000+ on a new TV and it did not work well.
My 40XBR4 measures exactly 40", my 40V2500 measures 39.25". LOL

Cablevision of Raritan Valley, Central NJ. It's part of the new Expanded HD line-up. IT's called UltraHD.

http://www.voom.tv/ultrahd.html

Makes for excellent, fall asleep while watching TV, TV. Cablevision added the Voom HD line-up a couple months ago. Now like 30 HD channels. All commercial free too!

Added: nothing like watching scantily clad, hot women trot down the runway in big screen HD, is there?

Ok, I've read the forum front to back, and the Samsung 81 forum as well, looked at the pics, read the comments/reviews...

Two things are immediately apparent to me: Sony still has clouding/muira issues. And IMO overall the PQ on the Sony's is lacking something. I dont know if it's brightness/overall CR due to the Samsungs LED LDBL, or something inherent in the Sony's processing, but it seems almost every time when I've looked at Sony/Samsung side by side, either in person (for the older sets) or online, price comparable sets, the Samsung squeaks out by a good Cyrano Nose.

I havent made up my mind yet, still want to see these sets side by side in person, so you contented Sony owners, persuade me!! What made you buy the Sony over the Samsung? Is it totally subjective, or are there good technical reasons for opting for a Sony? Or if you are an uncontented Sony owner, Why?

I think when you see the Sony IRL, your opinion will improve. That's how I chose it. Most Do not have clouding issues, have you seen the locked forum? That being said the 81 is intriguing. If you are worried about clouding, get one at a returnable place. I don't think anyone with a 40" has complained about clouding. Before I bought the XBR4, I returned a 42LX177 for horrible green push, it was like watching aliens on SD TV. All the LCD makers have issues.

Added: I laugh at my friends 46" Sharp 62U, it's SD rendering is horrible. Almost, Like watching a G1 20" LCD that cost $2000.
