TIVO-like Feature In Car Audio?

Is there a head unit that has such a feature, and if not, why not? I am so spoiled at dodging broadcast commercials in my home theater, I wonder why this incredible possibility is not widely available on car units. Now that a limited few head units have up to 20G of memory it should be easy to design in a record for radio stations and skip features.

Have the manufacturers gone into league with the broadcasters to foil any such idea? That is the only reason I can think of why we haven't seen this selling point yet. Any answers?

I've owned an Eclipse deck in the past that allowed me to record onto a memory stick. I could record data from my AM/FM or Sirius tuner, non-burned CD or the aux input. Wasn't quite Tivo like though, it didn't give me any options other than to record what I was listening to.

I know there used to be. A few years ago I remember reading about such a head unit. Sadly I cannot recall the name of the gear. The ad may have been in Electronic House magazine.

I looked at JVC's website and could find no car stereos they make now that even has integrated memory or the feature mentioned. Perhaps it has been discontinued. Anyone have a model number?

In fact, I have trouble locating any brand that has integrated memory.

get an xm2go or sirius stiletto instead. no commercials to dodge and lots more programs you might care to record. it's definitely worth the subscription.

My two primary cars have factory satellite radios (one XM and one Sirius), which I have active, but neither have the record feature. I hesitate to add an ugly non-oem box to the mix. Besides, satellite radio does not have the programs I am most interested in.

what type of music are you into? if you're into dance, there's blocks of hours of great, world-class dance music programming that you can record, from xm or sirius. otherwise, you can just record a big block from any channel you fancy and during playback, you can just skip the songs you don't like.
granted it is difficult to "integrate" into a car (especially the stiletto), the flexibility, features, and the subscription savings make it worth it.
