Success! Nice work Firestorm355! If you are able to post pics and the model number of the wireless unit & motherboard you are currently using, that would be very helpful as this thread grows.

I have acquired a number of various (old / new ) gyration wireless usb mice/keyboard receivers and will process them this week on various systems (Abit IC7-MAX3 , Asus A8N32-SLI PREMIUM, etc). They all should have the same results, but I will post my findings anyway.

Pics and info will follow. Keep up the good work and, if you will, please post details on what you find.

Finally, I got mine working too, how did you figure out the pin outs for the board cause they're beyond weird (black for power, wtf). The gyration receiver (Dell RH515) is working on an internal USB on a Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H, it works fine. Now, for some of the questions here:

MrBigT123: Not sure how you'd get the board in Canada, but yes it works with Vista, in fact the application from Dell (there's a link in one of my posts) says it's only compatible with Vista.

agarg: Yes, there's no problem using an external USB cable, while of course following the same colors, or even making a dongle out of the board (inside an old thumb drive maybe)

This is/was/has been one of my many projects that did not have enough support equipment available for completion. Now that the issue has been addressed, I can kick the dust off a few media servers and prep for clustering.

Currently I have 10 remotes...and, thanks to you, I have 10 Wireless Gyration Usb receivers on delivery for tomorrow. The Project is now(finally) well on its way.

Now if I could only grow a few extra appendages...preferably one with surface mount soldering technology

I tried it again this time splicing Dell Part Number RH515 with a regular usb connection. It works fine connecting it to the hub on my monitor. Just follow the directions given on the previous page by the pictures. I also found that RH515 fits nicely inside of an old usb thumb drive case. I am currently running an XPS Gen 4 Motherboard and 2005 Media Center XP. Here are the pics of the creation:

I have a couple questions/things I noticed remaining though...

First the differences in the Gyration LCD and Dell remotes...

It appears that the Gyration LCD and Euro Dell remotes have keys at the bottom of the remote that are not there on the US Dell remote On the Euro Dell remote these keys seem to be the four Blu-ray "magic buttons" (red, green, yellow and blue). This is kind of odd because this is an MCE remote and MCE doesn't really support Blu-ray natively right? I wonder what Dell Europe has those buttons defaulting to?

Edit: Nevermind I see the coloured buttons control Teletext, a European TV feature.

Another thing I noticed was the device control buttons. On the Gyration remotes (both the non-LCD and LCD) there are four device buttons...

TV, PC, CAB/SAT, and AUX.

On the Dell remotes it appears the 4th function button is gone (highlighted in the Euro Dell pic with the backlighting on) and it looks like some kind of transmission button from the icon on it? Also the 3rd button is apparently "TV input" not another device.

I'm assuming this means we only get to control ONE other device on the Dell remote? PC and whatever you set on the other button? Also Dell's code list is much shorter than Gyrations and only includes TVs! Does that also limit use to TVs and no other devices?

The remote is very nice looking but the limited IR control compared to the Gyration equivalent looks like it might be a real deal killer here If I can't control my receiver with it, it becomes just "another remote" to deal with--it's largely useless to me personally.

What I'd like (and I'm sure a lot of others would like) is a way to control both their PC and their other devices (TV, Receiver, sat/cable box). It looks like the Gyration remote allows this, but the Dell does not If it would at least have had two devices (to control a TV and a receiver) that would have worked out very nicely, but just the PC and the TV?

Unfortunately it seems barely useful at all, despite it's slick communicative LCD screen, nice backlighting, cool design, and otherwise adding Wireless USB to the PC in the process.

Correct me if I'm mistaken here but it's basically the Gyration remote minus the ability to control anything else other than a TV. I guess there's a reason this remote is so cheap--all you can do with it is control your PC and your TV However I'm sure the Gyration remote is far more expensive which would make me pass on that as well.
Edit: Wow okay the Gyration R4000 LCD remote has an MSRP of $200 and appears to use proprietary wireless instead of Wireless USB (?) I don't really think it's worth some $170 more just to control three more devices, a feature which Dell could have implemented in the first place if they weren't retarded Oh well I guess just getting an IR MCE remote and learning buttons into another remote will have to do it for me.

ES_Revenge: I thought the dell was also a proprietary WUSB standard, not certified Genuine Wireless USB because they seem to be using their own Wireless usb standard.

"WirelessUSB" by Cypress Semiconductor is not related to "Certified Wireless USB".
So those hoping to use the RH515 seem to be out of luck with the official Wireless USB standard anyway and are on the same proprietary wireless usb device.

I'm just thankful that all I'll need to be controlling is my HTPC and my TV, the tv can have its own remote and I can run the rest of it purely through the HTPC, blu-ray and all, just trying to get a RH515 module shipped down here to Australia. If anyone has a spare and is willing to post it on, give me a yell and I'm happy to pay the cost of the new unit+shipping.

Ahh thanks for that explanation So Cypress are sneaky $&#tards then eh? LOL. They just use the name Wireless USB all laissez-faire like, for something that isn't really wireless USB at all. I wonder if they will release "firewire" and "USB" devices that aren't compatible at all with those standards but are instead some proprietary Cypress nonsense? Or wait maybe they could start producing their own brand of SD cards that are triangle shaped and only fit into Cypress "SD card" readers and devices Seems to me that the ppl at Cypress Semiconductor need a beating!

Just received my remote Awesome, just to find somewhere that will ship OS with an RH515.

Thanks a bunch folks, made a little usb dongle with the RH515 and XP recognized it immediately as an HID.
Paired the remote to the dongle using the connection button.
Installed the driver and got the LCD screen working with WMP.
Since this is XP pro and not an MCE machine, many of the features are dormant.
This might pair nicely with an OrigenAE s21t case using Ultimate Vista, the next plan to make work.
I bought 2 remotes and 2 RH515 cards to make a setup for home media and for mobile presentations on my laptop.

Stupid question; and something I didn't find in the thread, does the 2-way LCD actually work when you use the Dell drivers/receiver?

I order a remote (and receiver from Dell). FWIW; I'll be running MCE under Vista.

Does anyone else have issues with the remote not responding? Will work fine then all of sudden nothing.

Thanks to everyone that contributed time and figuring this out! I, like many others ordered one of these remotes from Ebay thinking it was a cool media remote, only to realize it was made special for Dell. I ordered a refurb straight from Dell. It only took about 5 minutes to get it up and running, i just chopped the end off of a USB extension cable and wired it up as pictured. As soon as I loaded the drivers, it was up and running!! It was worth it just to have the "motion mouse" feature!! Thanks again!

I've been looking around, and do not specifically see any x64 Vista drivers on the Dell site for the remote.

I saw the 32 bit drivers were listed under Video as "Thomson Dell Premium Remote Control"

Am I missing something are do they just not exist? Or are they the same?

I ordered 5 remotes, and 5 of the receiver boards (lots of TV's in my house) so I just wanted to get all of my ducks in a row before everything gets here..

Hey all, finally got it shipped and 10 mins later the wires were spliced, diced and hacked together to work like a charm. reception in it can be a little bit patchy for some reason but I'm sure it'll work out with time. Cheers guys.

I too want to thank everyone who took the time to figure this out. I had this remote sitting in my desk drawer because I didn't do my research prior to buying it from eBay.

I ordered the RH515 from Dell today, in fact I ordered two so I can set it up and then get another remote for my bedroom!!

You are correct. If you have an available slot for a Dell internal bluetooth module, you can use it for your RH515. On the Dell website, you may want to compare the design spec sheets of the e1705 / 9400 bluetooth bay to your XPS M1530. They should match in specs, but for reference prior to purchase.

I have installed the RH515 in two Dell 9400 & e1705 17" laptops with complete success. The drivers for the M2010 are located within this post.

Be aware if you use bluetooth: You will have to choose the RH515 or a bluetooth module. You are unable to use both in the available slot, and will need replace the bluetooth module with the RH515, if that is your choice. If you wish to use Bluetooth, take a look at the micro-usb bluetooth module. It will tie up one usb port, but it is small enough to leave in the usb port without damaging your unit.

Price points are all over the map for these, try google.

I have not received my m1530 hopefully I will have all these parts ready by the time it gets to me.

This might be a dumb question, but I where can I find design spec sheets? I have looked all over the place, but I might not know where to look.
Were you referring to the specification that are listed in the owner's manual? Or is design spec sheet different?

Ok, so what I am doing wrong here?

1. I hooked the receiver by creating a usb dongle (matching each color black/black white/white red/red and blue/blue).

2. I installed the Dell drivers.

3. The remote says "NO LINK" and "Out of range"

4. Using the connection button, I get "Connection unsuccessful"

Take a look at post #26 (between the pictures). This will provide you with the proper connection for your usb dongle. Here is some quick info:

RED & GREEN = BLACK

YELLOW = GREEN

WHITE = WHITE

BLACK = RED

Please post if you have further issues.

No worries, There are many links here to fill you in: Setup Diagram, Owners Manual (PDF - 10.7 MB), Owners Manual (HTML format), and most important....in the Owners Manual (HTML & PDF)..."ADDING & REPLACING PARTS". This is what you are looking for..and this means that you have the ability to add the RH515 to your unit, just as I have added the RH515 to my Dell 17" 9400 & e1705. I have not confirmed this personally, but the diagram & upgrade info, as long as the wiring in the xps m1530 matches, you should be in business. Please report your findings and thanks:
