Regular DVD on A2

Hi guys, for some reason my hd-a2 is reading all my legacy dvds as 2 channel even when they are dolby digital sound tracks. I have the spdif output as bitstream and the hdmi output as pcm downmix.

this happened all of a sudden it seems. I may try a different optical cable as this is all thats different. weird. hd-dvds are i think are 5.1. i will recheck.

I believe over HDMI the downmix setting puts out 2 channels
don't know why it would effect the optical

that could be what's happening. it's a known fact that the spdif setting does affect the HDMI setting, so I wouldn't be surprised if it worked the other way also. change your HDMI setting to AUTO and see what happens.

Weird...when using optical for audio, setting the HDMI to downmix is supposed to make the spdif bitstream output louder, not downmix that to 2 channels.

I will play with the settings again tonight to see if I can get it fixed. Thanks for the suggestions. Do you think I need to power off and back on the player? I could've swore I tried everything the other night.

You don't need to fix anything. The deck's output will be multi channel through optical output.
