Maybe it's not related, but my Wii "sparkles" in much the same way you describe on my Samsung DLP. Maybe it's a Samsung issue, and not just a -71 issue.

Check this thread out in the XBOX AREA. Someone posted about sparkles using an Elite with HDMI connection.

Ain't that the truth and of course they return a perfectly good set and blame it on the Sammy. I have seen what is referenced many times on my other HDTV and regular CRT and it is ALWAYS source related (in my case DISH) and not the tv.

I have had my Amazon 71 for a month now. I am getting a ripple effect at the bottom of my screen. It is about 5" tall and go's across the screen at the bottom. It only happens about 2-3 times in a 4 hour period so I have been unable to take a photo of it. I am using a good quality 1.3 HDMI cable coming off my Cox box. (I have tried different cables). When it happens rest of the screen is OK. It seems to happen most when the screen has alot of white in it and the camera is paning. It last for just a second or two. It does it when AMP is on or off. It doesn't matter what channel I am watching. Does anyone know what is wrong. I would of called Samsung support but I don't think a service guy would hang around long enough for it to happen. Any Ideas?

I have tried both, and both seem to produce similar results, I do think that just scan produces a better picture, however, I chose to stick with 16:9 simply to fill the screen when viewing material that is not broadcast in 1080i.

It's definately odd, I wouldnt return the set though, the black levels and overall PQ when viewing Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, and video games, to me is much better than the what the XBR4 or any other LCD could offer.

Its a great Television despite the various issues...

My question would be do I do a reset of the DVR, or try Repeat Satellite Setup. I assume that repeat satellite setup could possibly help. I'm afraid it will require a call to DirecTv though. I don't want to mess up anything with my DirecTv, but need to know if it's my dish, or my Tv. I only have about 7 days before the 30 exchange period is up. You very well may be right about the DVR causing the CBS problem, but I doubt the lesser stutter from Disney, Discovery HD and 101-Music are from this. I think they are Samsung related issues. Thanks for your advice.

It wouldn't hurt to repeat the satellite setup and I have done so in the past and cleared up issues. On the other hand, if your signal strength is that weak your satellite dishes maybe out of alignmnent.

It could be vapors, its normally faces that start to look muddy or blurred, I don't know why the amp settings seem to effect this but they do.

So for television I stick with Game Mode being on, meaning AMP off, and for movies depending on the Movie, Amp is either on High or on Low.

Games the Amp stays off, but I don't enable Game mode.

Well I called and wasted my time. They told me the order is already in place and they don't have access to the new model numbers. She made it clear that they won't replace it with a new model. It was worth a try.

Just got my a new replacement from CC. Well I had to return the open box for credit and get a new one. And if memory serves is came with 2003. Anyway the price had jumped way up and they would not match there previous days low price that day but told me I had 60 days price match. Anyway the price dropped, so to keep from haggling, I bought another one using a AAA coupon when the price fell to the lowest point I have seen for one that is for sale local. AKA not amazon.

CC refunded my other purchase and charged me for the new one, so I got an extra 30 days test my set. So my hats of to them on the price match. I saved over 490 bucks!

So far I am happy with the set. No it isn't perfect, but which set is? That is what I based my decision on. Reading and then actually viewing the sets. To me and the wife, this set had the best picture.

Just my 0.02....

I would also like to mention that I have the Samsung Auto Mount and I can it is well worth the extra dough. I can almost completely eliminate glare, just by changing the angle of the TV. And it's has a huge cool factor.

Hollywood.....read a few pages prior to your posts of your problems...myself and watson, and insimbi were going thru the exact same **** only with tbshd/tnthd.....my picture looks similar to yours but not as much green (pixelation) it freezes up, and requires me to change channel to go back to it being normal....also its still prominent when i rewind to that same part (dvr)

I think its all source related....not once does this happen on blu ray or other hd channles.....PQ amazing by the way

i called cable (optimum) and they are coming out on thurs to check the STB and also install a signal booster.....hope this helps, bc i really do love this tv and dont wanna have to exchange for the xbr4....but tbshd is one of my fav channels

Sounds like it to me...

Just makes you wonder what the problem is if its the source.

I think there is some confusing here. I would be willing to bet that you have the option of refund for 30 days from the original purchase date regardless of swaps. It may be that every time you exchange a defective set you reset your 30 days for exchange, but not refund.

Really guys, your best bet is to get confirmation from the sales rep or manager. Get them to put it in writing if that makes you more confortable. I don't think going into BB or CC and saying "some guy on AVS said I can swap" will get you very far. Also B&Ms, specifically BB, are notoriously YMMV. It's up to you to find out what your purchasing store is going to do for you in terms of exchanges and refunds. The person answering your questions has a lot less vested interest in giving you completely accurate info.

Certain credit cards give you 60 days to return merchandise. Check with your credit card company.

I am in the market for a new LCD and have been reading this long thread. As this purchase is a "Want" not a "Need" I think I will wait until April. The reason for this post is over the last few weeks I get momentary pixilation and stutter about once every few minutes on about 1/3rd of my channels. This is on a old Sony SD rear projection tv. I do have a service call put into Cox cable, so maybe the source is more to blame than the TV's? I mean if it were the TV's it would do it on all channels and all inputs ie. XBOX, DVD and it does not.

Just my thoughts?

Do you have any snow collected on your dish? Is there any tree branch blocking the dish's view to the southern sky?

Thanks

That date is the firmware release date. Obviously that date is earlier than the production date of your set. The serial number tells you the production month. There is no way to tell what day of the month the set is made on.

He's talking about the service menu 'Date of puchase'

I've wondered how it knows the puchase date also. I've noticed it gets reset on firmware upgrade though.

Not sure how it's set.

Your signal strength is rather low. If there's nothing blocking your satellite dish, like clau has referenced, it might be time to get on your roof to adjust the dish. You'll need a second person for this job-one person in front of the set to notify you how the signal is changing with each adjustment, and the other to actually adjust the dish. It's really not that hard. You'll just have to loosen a couple of locking nuts. But if you're not comfortable, it's safer just to call in a professional. Good luck.

Oh, in that case, there is no way the firmware knows what the date of purchase is. Unless it is a field that the user fills in.

Hmmm sounds like mine and the others miniblinds effect. Could you elaborate and give more details on your TV?

But the spooky part is when I went into my service menu with my first set, it had the correct purchase date.

The set could just assume the first time it is turned on after leaving the factory is the purchase date. Do you have to set a date during Plug&Play? I forget now. Like I said though, every screen shot I've seen of the SM after updating firmware has this field blanked.
I think I've come to the conclusion that all the problems, or most of them, are source related. I just moved houses and have my TV hooked up OTA antenna, I had Cox cable at my other house. I notice way more stuttuering with the OTA antenna than I did when I had Cox. I would only get ocassional stuttering then. I'll be getting Directv Friday and hopefully this will alleviate all the stuttering I am seeing now.

6 series model numbers: LN40A650T, LN46A650T and LN52A650T

7 series model numbers: LN40A750T, LN46A750T and LN52A750T

You can set the time during P&P or at any time, but it is optional. That still does not make sense, since you could have purchased it and not turned it on for days.

Miniblind effect is probally a better name then ripple effect. My tv is the 52"

71 model, 2xxxx (I am not at home so I can't give the full upgrade number). The problem happens while watching any HD channel. I don't remember it happening when I am watching SD broadcasting but I could be wrong. It happens quicker than I could snap a photo only lasting a second or two. It has happened while watching cable (live) and has happened when watching tivo. When watching tivo I can replay the part that had the miniblind effect and usually it doesn't have that effect when played back. It always happens at the bottom of the screen, clear across the bottom and is about 5" tall.

You may want to PM "TivoHD". I remember he reported a very similar problem. He upgraded to 2004, and I don't know whether that fixes it or not.

There is absolutely a way to find out the day of the month the set was manufactured on. I have posted this before. If you register your SN# on the official Sammy Site and you enter the correct SN# all the way down to the last character that is on the back of your tv (SN# on box has the last character missing), then the full date of manufacture will show up next to your SN# inputed. Also you get a few more months on your warranty when you register. My set was manufactured on 12/31/2007.
