In my opinion the difference between sens 555 and 595 is very small. My friend thought it would be cool to get 595's just to one up me. Couple days later at a local Halo LAN we compared the two it was really hard to distinguish them. We had a couple people try both of them and tell us which was better and they couldnt decide. Mind you this was only Halo 2 so you know maybe movies and music sound much better on 595's or something its completely possible. Just thought I would throw that out there, maybe save someone some money.

Also Bioshock with headphones on at night is downright freaky man I almost jumped out of my couch this one time.

Odd. The 595's have a different (better) driver & is known in the audio circle to be a pretty big upgrade over the 555's.

he only had one source to demo the 2 cans so, I hardly call that a fair comparison as he even said it could be better with music and movies since they only used Halo 2

About the open back design of the Sen 555 and 595. Exactly how loud are they outside the phones? Loud enough to pass through a closed door? Or just a nuisance to someone trying to read on the same couch your playing on?

So, today I have ordered the Senn 555, the JVC SS Adapter, as well as the obligatory mini optical adapter. It should all be here by Friday. I'll post impressions if anyone is interested in the Senn 555.

Also, I think someone complained briefly about the JVC SS adapter running on batteries. Well with a bit of surfing I stumbled upon this link:

Never heard these myself, but they were highly recommended on another site. Suppose to beat the Sen hd280's. I think they are for DJ's though.

These supposedly have a lot of bass. I think I would like that for the particular use. Pretty cheap too.

I will use them for gaming and movies. I have the Grado SR125's for music. I will also be pairing the cans with the JVC DH box or I will get a reciever that has DH already. I would love to have a set with a mic but it seems that it isn't possible to do this and still get any kind of quality at this price point.

Any experience with these? Other ideas or advice?

So they are definitely different but may not be replacements since the price is so much different. It is just strange that I cannot find the model on the AT site anywhere. They look like even more of a steal now from Auidiocubes. Anyone know anything about these?

Go with Audiocubes.com. They offer great service. I bought from them before. The 500 Art (one in the link) is better then the 500 air for gaming. I have the Sen 212 pro.Nice cans, but soundstage is very narrow. You can get a zallman clip on mic..

i'm a headphone audiophile and i use beyerdynamic dt880 with games; they're great; of course higher end senn offerings are also quite good along with others

back onto topic..... anyone have experience with the zalman mic for xbox live chat? It looks kind of flimsy. The ones I have seen, clip onto a wire. Looks like it would be annoying.

Anyone know of a different type of mic? Otherwise I think I'll have to use the ol xbox live headset, with muted volume, over the new cans.

I just got the Sennheiser 595's and I want to say they sound awesome. I wanted a decent pair of headphones that I can use late at night to keep the house quiet while I'm on my Xbox 360. After some thought - and much reading I opted to go with the higher quality stereo headphones over a potentially weak sounding 5.1 headset. Admittedly I'm not an audiophile (I'll buy something without even listening to it based on other's reviews) but these do sound really great. I listen to a fair amount of music so I didn't want to sacrifice music for gaming.

I listened to several cd's this weekend and heard detail I've never heard through my HSU ventriloquists. I have an Onkyo TX-SR601 receiver driving them currently. So I do recommend them as well and I appreciate all of the posts helping me with my decision. It seems like anytime these days when you make a statement there is someone waiting to flame you. But I am glad we have a forum like this for the open exchange of opinion.

I also just got the Zalman Microphone and did the mod to the controller so I can use it instead of the cheap Live headset. The only thing I've done so far is to make a couple of audio messages to test it - mainly to check my soldering skills. It seems to work fine but I had to hold the mic right up to my mouth for a decent volume. That said, the audio was very clear. As yet I haven't really had any online time to check out how the mic sounds to others. So I am curious too if anyone has had any experience with the Zalman - especially using it online.

Also I'm considering getting the JVC surround sound adapter but I really don't want to sacrifice audio quality for surround sound. I guess that's something you have to hear for yourself though. Can those with the JVC adapter chime in to say if they are happy with their decision to buy it?
