my plan is to use a 1.5 ft (optical) cable out the back of the av plug from the 360. the adapter will plug into that. from there i will plug in 2 (optical) cables - 1 to the mixamp and 1 to the receiver.

still good?

yup

On a side note, do you not have an Optical out on your receiver?
You could skip the adapter and just use that to the Mixamp and just mute the receiver.
That is how I'm connected to my Mixamp.

The look exactly like the X4's that are available now. I've read over the feature list and dont see any improvements in technology or design, just the use of black instead of gray.

Make sure you buy them from a place you can return if you arent satisfied. I tried them and I wouldnt pay $99.. let alone $199. Cheapest looking & feeling headphone I've ever seen. And the line of sight issues from the IR made them buzz like crazy.

Everything I've seen still points to a September 1st release.

The x41 has a RF transmitter so it no longer needs line of sight.

I gotta say if they upgraded to RF, and no more line of sight.. then that was pretty much my (and most other peoples biggest complaint).

Still not sure if they are worth $200 bucks as they used the cheapest plastic possible.. but since they are the only wireless Dolby Headphone gaming headset solution money can buy. I guess for someone who has kids, pets or just hates lots of cables.. it would be worth the $200.

For those who are interested, i'm selling another pre-fit boom mic that perfectly fits beyerdynamic 770, 880 or 990 headphones. It works in conjunction with the astro mixamp. I'll get some pics up shortly.

I gotta say as much as I've recommended the Astros in the past, Im really dissapointed with them right now. Mine have a short in the wiring, right as it connects to the headset.

While I understand no product is perfect, their customer service could be better. They only communicate by email for warranty/technical support. Which is a big dissapointment for headphones thats costs more than the console itself. Also in resolving issues they have 'steps' they much go thru first, which include you trying various cables that came with the headset/mixamp combo.. and them mailing you out cables which takes days.

I've been going back and forth with tech support for over 2 weeks now trying to get this fixed. They finally asked me to send the headphones in.. which ground shipping from VA to SanFran will take another week. From there they said up to 10 days to discover the problem, even though its very simple. I even marked with a tag exactly where the short is in the wiring (you can pinch it there and cause the static/mic dropout). And of course ground shipping back from San Fran to VA.

In total thats 5 weeks to replace a headset. I went ahead and paid out my own pocket for faster shipping by Air both ways. Thats another $14 bucks. But because of this.. I simply cannot recommend them anymore based on that sole experience, your milage may vary.

If Astro wants to charge twice what everyone else.. they need to provide twice what everyone else is doing. And thats from product to service. If you are charging $250 for these headphones and I have a problem with them that cant be resolved over the phone. The quality should be as such there IS no problem with wiring. I've used other headphones & headsets for years with no problems. Even the super cheapo MS ones included in the box still work.. I had them since Nov 2005 when I first bought my 360.

Astro should have at a minimum:
1) Have telephone support and let me speak to a real person to speed things up.
2) If they cannot be fixed or troubleshot over the phone, then send me another pair immediately.. issue me an RMA number and I send these broken ones back to you. That way you can to take your sweet time to fix them.

As soon as I get them back.. I'll probably use them for a month or two. Ebay them and recoup as much of my $250 investment.. and go for the brand new Tritton AX900's when they are released this fall.

I dont see where they do any type of surround sound processing. $200 bucks is alot of money for plain ole' stereo in ear headphones.

I know this is gaming headphones thread, but my headphones (Sony Hi Fi nothig special) get more milage on my laptop, Archos 605 (pmp when around home) or my reciver at night then actually gaming...

it's over priced man!

*flame suit on*

it's like the bose speakers (their headphones on the other hand aren't bad, especially the noise canceling ones) of the speaker world. AVS frowns upon thy products!

I think so. I may be on AVSF but I'm headphone knowledge challenged! I know the monster name is a joke on here, but I didn't know the beats were made by monster untill I looked them up online today.

How's the astro amp for music playing? What I've heard in the COD thread one is better off with the AD700s headphones?
haven't used it for music but when I did bring the headphones to Mexico, they were decent. Sounded good and it was super comfortable. I* can't complain about it much, it was a wedding present from the COD4-ers

Any thoughts on the Tritton AX720s? Just saw them @ BB for $129. Looks like a pretty decent set
