I maxed the Mixamp volume, and had the E7 at whatever volume was comfy for me.

I take it you arent using a mic? Im interested in seeing how you would utilize a mic with that setup.

A lot of us use amps with mics. You get the mixamp splitter that turns the 4 pole on it into a 3.5mm headphone output that plugs into the amp, and a 3.5mm microphone input that inputs the mic.

There's a couple of reviews/overviews in Playback that might be of interest to some people with more money than I 'round here:

HiFiMAN HE-5LE

Wadia 151 PowerDac mini

So both my Fuze LOD cable and my laptop arrived yesterday.

First comes first. Either the Fuze has an incredible HPO or an LOD cable is incredibly overrated. I hooked up the Fuze via LOD cable to the Fiio E7, and I swear it made barely if ANY difference. The E7 helped drive the K701, but for the CAL and ES7, there was no real difference.

I wasn't planning on ever using the K701 with my Fuze to begin with. The CAL and ES7 sound stellar straight off the Fuze, making the LOD cable a complete waste of cash. Oh well. Both of those cans would only sound worse with the E7's various bass boosts, so the Fuze with slight EQ was all I needed.

Now my biggest surprise was using the Fiio E7 as a dac/amp for my laptop. Holy cow, what a difference. It was night and day for me. The Fiio E7 is gonna stay mated to the laptop from now on.

I've never listened to the Fuze, but on my iPod 5.5G... the HPO sounds pretty good with my ALAC files. Then, if I use my LOD to the Fiio E5.... I can hear the soundstage open up, the dynamics get a little better and the headphones have a little more room to breath. I've heard the HPO on the iPod isn't the greatest... but unless I A/B the LOD and Fiio versus the HPO... I'd be hard pressed to hear the difference. The worst part, some songs I can't hear a difference at all. So it's a toss up, but for $6 total to make... I'm ok with it. I'd never buy another 'higher end' LOD as I don't see the point.

Now, if I was able to BYPASS the internal DAC and use a different DAC, that would be a whole 'nother story. Happy that you like it out of the Lappy though. DAC and Amp from the Lappy/PC does make a nice difference in most cases.

The Zune seems to have a superior headphone out, but they supposedly both use similar spec Wolfson DACs. So either is good using line out. I'd still go the iPod route personally, as in the future if I want to upgrade... I have the iMod option as well as pure digital Dock options which bypass the Wolfson DAC altogether and a higher quality external DAC can be utilized (such as an iWadia, iDecco, etc.).

search for overstock through bing.com/shopping, it was 30% but may be less now.

after you enter your email address into bing, it'll transfer you to overstock, then check this link: http://www.overstock.com/Electronics...6/product.html

they should be 196 there minus the cashback amount

more on how cashback works: http://www.bing.com/shopping/pages/howtouse.aspx

Would any of these receivers sound better than the Mixamp for Positional Audio through Optical:

KLH R5100
Kenwood VR-605
Yamaha RX-v595
Onkyo TX-SR500
Pioneer VSX D309
Sony STR-DG325

Would a receiver sound better than a mixamp in RPGs, Adventure Games and for games with Custom Soundtrack?

Bing is now 2-15%. The problem is that you don't know what you'll get until the deed is done. At 15% it's still a good deal, but at 2%, not so much.

For gaming... merely ok. For music... not too bad. They're alot like the Beyerdynamic DT770 80ohm. They don't have the recessed mids that the Beyers have.

But how's the soundstage and positional audio compared to the DT770 Pros?

I wonder why you bought yet another pair of those, when you say they aren't too comfy... should've went with the CAL.

They were intended to be sold... someone request a full re-cable... and I clicked (buy now).... before I had the full confirmation from end user... who then backed out. Lesson learned.
