The Godfather Trilogy being Remastered!

Just in time to be an HD DVD exclusive release.

I mean, if you restore a movie the studio would want to make the money that went into the restoration back, right? You can get it back by releasing it theatrically or on home video. Iam gonna guess Home entertainment is less risky.

I've still never seen any of them, so seeing them in HD glory will be awesome!

Glad I didn't go Blu!

I'll pay a premium for a great Remaster.

You guys who haven't seen them (for shame!), here's some sage advice:

Watch 1 & 2; skip 3.
Yeah, no interest in seeing 3 from what I've heard of it. I think Sofia Coppola is an amazing director, but actor? Not so much.
Wow, haven't seen them? Whoa... missing some great cinema. I prefer 2 personally, darker and deeper to my mind, but both are outstanding.
I can't imagine Paramount releasing a remastered DVD without a HD counterpart. This is big. Blu can have all the Pirates and Spiders they can handle I much prefer quality films.
The Godfather Part 1 & 2 are cinema masterpieces. Part 3 is a great movie it just pales in comparison. Much is made of Sophia Coppola's performance but I think the lose of the Tom Hagen character was a much bigger issue. He was a large character in the original script, which caused a rewrite when Robert Duvall disagreed about his salary. Francis Coppola had said that Part 3 feels incomplete "without Duvall's participation."

This may be blasphemy, but any chance that there'll be an unbowdlerized HD version of _The Godfather Saga_? It's an interesting take on the first 2 movies, but it was originally made for TV...

You and Francis are correct.

A special edition of Big came out a few months ago.

I forgot Godfather was under Paramount. I'm so glad I still haven't bought them on DVD yet.

You could also watch 1 & 2, and the Sofia death scene in 3 over and over.

Yeah, just watch 3 for Sofia.

I would actually like to see the Godfather Saga on HD DVD. For those who don't know what it is, it is the 3 movies put together chronologically. Instead of having flashbacks, the movie starts with Vito as a little boy in Sicily and goes forward from there. I like it better that way.

Some say catalogs don't sell. This one will.

She is kinda cute though. But 1 and 2 are awesome. Not seeing them yet and admitting it should be a banable offense from AVS!

I must be the only guy here who likes 3. It's not a masterpiece like the first two, but it is an above average gangster picture. Watching Eli Wallach choke on a cannoli is worth the price of admission.
Add me to the list of being someone thats never seen any of them. I have them all on DVD still wrapped in the plastic but never came around to ripping them open. Guess I'll sell my SD copies and just grab the HD one's if they ever release.

3 better be in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio for which it was framed. I think the last dvd releases opened it up to 1.85:1. Sacrilege!
It is not necessary to watch all 3 but the first 2 are a must! I would still watch the third one because although it is not as good as the first two, it is still an okay movie. Just don't compare it to the first 2. When I first watched the Godfather series, I made a day out of it and watched them all back-to-back-to-back. Only way to do it.
I just re-watched Godfather 2 the other day (it had been a few years) from the boxed set of a few years back and was stunned by the poor image quality of the film and the DVD transfer. I guess I'm getting spoiled by HD-DVD.
What's more shameful?
Never seeing any of the Godfather movies, or Admitting to seeing (an owning) on Blu-Ray "are we done yet" and "Happily N'ever After"?
Wow, you really owe yourselves to watch #1 and #2 some weekend..

The Godfather 1 + 2 (new remasters) are to be released on the sixth of december on DVD in Holland (and probably around the same time in the rest of the world as well).
I expect (and hope) them to come out on HD DVD as well around the same time (probably with "3" in a boxset).
The date comes from a Dutch site (dvd-home.nl), the announcement has been there for many months now and that site has never been wrong with their dates for forthcoming releases.

Now those HD discs will make me buy a nice HD DVD player as well to watch 'em on.

2001
Bladerunner
The Godfather 1-3

All in High Definition.

Oh yeah.

I just saw a HD broadcast of Godfather on A&E HD channel. It was full of grain and heavy EE with very little detail or contrast. I am so glad that this is being remastered. Let's just hope this doesn't turn out to be like another Dracula.

This would be an automatic buy for me. The Godfather part 2 is the best movie ever made......in my opinion. Freddy
