Help - urgent question!

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a 37 inch Toshiba (37HL67), and I'm blown away by the quality of this unit! I'm very seriously considering bringing it back and getting the 42 in model instead, which has an even faster refresh rate, is 1080P (vs 720P, which at this size I doubt makes much impact either way) and is, of course, quite a bit larger. Here's my worry:

SD cable currently looks surprisingly good on this setup. I actually have a Sanyo Z5 front projector for my main viewing room, but as i program for a film festival and frequently have to watch poor quality screeners, I bought the Tosh as a unit geared for displaying less than great quality source material, television etc. So, the big question is, would I notice a decrease in image quality on SD cable and the like, by going up a few inches from 37 to 42? I only have a few days left to make my decision so please, any input would be super valued!

Anyone?

I would say yes. The "imperfections" of an SD signal are more apparent the bigger the screen is. You could say they get 'deformed' more.

Another thing to consider is that the (make that most of the) owners of the HL167 (the 1080p model) and LX177 (the 120Hz model) are fighting a green push that so far Toshiba won't even admit as a problem. Thus, getting one of those sets (I think you were referring to the 42HL167 model) is a gamble regarding the green push.

I would stick with the 37", but this is just my opinion.

A good deal of how the SD would look on the larger set would depend on how good the internal scaler is in the set.

You may loose a bit of SD quality but keep in mind the HD PQ will be larger therefore more exciting...
