Here's a new game called Soldner X coming soon as a PSN download... remember when these were the top tier games of consoles?

Quote:

* 12 stages of beautiful parallax graphics and animations, staged across 4 fantastic world/space settings
* High definition graphics in 720p (16:9)
* Beautiful weather effects (such as rain, fog and lightning)
* Classic design, yet state-of-the-art shooter technology
* Unique upgrade weapon system with five standard weapon types
* Never before seen tactical elements such as chaining, effectiveness system, 'berserker' mode and much more
* Plenty of hidden bonus features
* More than 20 extras (with both positive and negative effects!)
* Addictive collection quests
* Over-the-top boss fights
* Features a superb soundtrack and sound effects
* Bi-lingual story mode (English/Japanese)
* Six modes of difficulty: very easy, easy, normal, hard, impossible, nightmare
* Easy to learn, yet tough to master
* Online high score ranking
* Constant frame rate (60fps)

*** OCTOBER '07 EDIT ***

Here's a 720P video of it in action. It's due out winter of this year.

Awesome! I love side scrollers.

Any idea when this is coming?

Looks very nice. Only question I have is since it isn't intensely on the graphic department how come they opt for the lower 720P resolution instead of 1080P? Meh either way I am buying this as soon as it comes out!

Wow! I haven't played a SSS in a long time but this looks good.

Heh, it may be 720P because its the first game by Play-Asia. Those guys are online import game retailers. Either way, it looks like a must-buy title.

I also want a PSN Contra >_<

I highly recommend getting Contra: Shattered Soldier (PS2). It's a side scrolling shooter but with a 3D engine that looks and plays great on the PS3.

This looks great!! PSN games are looking to be quite a bit of fun. This, SSDHD, CallingAllCars, and Wipeout HD, will all get lots of screen time on my system.

I will buy it if allows for 2 players at the same time.

It looks like Einhander. Awesome game.

Crap, I read Winter 07/08 somewhere.

I think I like PSN games more than real game lately. Must be getting old...

I was wondering about that myself, but the screenshots doesn't indicate much.

This really should have supported 1080. Too bad...

2D shooters are great! Its good to see these small download games are keeping the genre from totally disappearing in the age of 3D.

wipeout hd?? where???

I hope the gameplay is like Graduis, that plus those amazing (for a Shmup) graphics would equal heaven.

Ah... repressed R-Type memories returning... ahhhh

I see myself spending lots and lots of time on this one!
post #17 of 95
A new R-Type would be nice, R-type Final was kinda of a letdown after Delta, and I hate to see the series die on that note.

Daruis, I own every game in that series, even the obscure PC Engine and Supergrafx versions.

Has anyone been able to find any more information on this game? Everywhere I look, I find the same bullet points as the OP.

yeah i've played those interchangeably and that was probably where i got the two mixed up....

Reminds me of Life Force and RType. First day buy for me.
post #23 of 95
AMAZING. I love these surprises out of nowhere. Amazing. I will buy it on the first day. And it's probably not 1080p because it takes a lot of processing power to do a game like that at that resolution.

WipEout HD is discussed in this thread.
screenshots and videos look awesome!

I love side scroll shooters. I'll buy this in a heartbeat.

Thunder Force III for the Genesis was the best SSS in my opinion one of the last ones on the Genesis so the graphics and sound was top notch. Rtype was cool too so was the old school "Side Arms Hyper Dyne" on the arcade I play that one on the PSP all the time
post #27 of 95
i'm looking to get it too....

I always liked S.W.I.V. myself. Being able to play co-op using one of two different offensive vehicles (Helicopter and attack Jeep) was incredible fun back in the day.

The game looks fun, too bad we have to wait so long. I want to play it now

A guy who is doing the music for Soldner-X posted this on the shmups.org forum:

Quote:

No, I mean *now*. Now that PC and PS3 versions stand, there is a new poll, that allows you to vote if you want the game to be released on XB360. I don't think that the publishers and developer is intentionally ignoring anyone's votes. There are mechanics behind the scenes that aren't alway obvious.

Anyway, dev is in last stages. Music wise, I am working with a well known (more info soon) producer in his studio in Denmark on the mastering. Recording is completed. I'm quite certain that if you liked Last Hope's music, you will love the result. The quality of the production very much outshines my earlier work - in my opinion. We have put lots of effort into the story, sequences and soundtrack.

Best,

Rafael
