Setup plan:

Mains- Athena B1.2 Speakers
Center- Athena AS-C1.2 Center Channel Speaker
Sub - Bic H-100 or cadence X sub (???) or something for less?
Receiver - ??? Want something that will be able to get audio from HDMI, I have a ps3 so I want to use it with this setup.
Surrounds - something not to expensive from either circuit city or Amazon (gift card)

Use: Movies, TV and games (ps3)

The area is 16' x 16' both sides are open.

These speakers will be used with a front projector setup. Any advice and recommendations would be great. Thanks.

$$ Limit: 600 - 700

Do you have a question about what speakers to get for 600-700 or the entire speaker package plus receiver to get for 600-700?

600-700 for a 5.1 is tricky if you want to "bump up" from say the best buy and circuit city stuff. Check out ********** onix x-series speaker packages. If you bump up your budget another 100-200, you can get a nice set from these guys. Like get 2 pairs of x-ls and an x-cs, then a sub and you are right around your budget. Squeezing a receiver in there would be tricky and, frankly, not worth it unless you save up some more in my opinion.

Thanks, 600-700 was for the whole setup, I don't think I will be able to spend any more money, for the current setup I have chosen $400 goes for the mains and sub that leaves 300 to maybe 350 for the receiver and surrounds, will that be possible? I am willing to wait for deals.

I would look into the svs 5.1 setup...It will cost you a little more maybe but its good speakers from what I hear on a low budget...the only problem is yyou will still need a receiver. If a low end receiver costs you 300 and your mains are 400 you are immediately over 700...for an entire setup you might have to make some changes in your mains if you want all the speakers...

eessentially at this point you want have surrounds because a low end receiver will set you back the 300 you have left, but starting with a good 2.1 system is always an option and then you can build up from there.

The SVS system is out of my budget. Anyone have a comment on the subs, which one to get or recommend another one? Anyone also have any recommendations for some cheap surrounds?

I hate to be a realist, but if you budget is 600-700, and you spend 400 on your mains, you are left with 200-300. This then also means if you need a sub, surrounds and a receiver, you get to spend either 67 dollars a piece to 100, which in my mind says it isnt happening, and if it does then the system will be terrible and a complete waste. I hate to sound crude but thats just reality. Good HT isnt cheap, you have to be willing to spend some coin. It is for this reason you might be better off doing 2.1 and getting the rest later. also, what are you doing for a center?

What kind of basement is this going in any way, is it ate your parents, or in your own house that you own.

To make this happen you will certainly need to cut some corners and if you really want surrounds and everything to fit your budget as opposed to building as you go, you will be forced to get different mains...

The $400 was for the mains, center and sub, so I need a receiver and surrounds.

even so, you are left with 300 so 150x2 or 100 and 200, you are really crippling your system with such a bottleneck, I personally dont see it possible and worth it at the same time

If I got a refurb Receiver that would help, also my mains are $100/pr. so I could go cheaper for the surrounds.

I was trying to get away from a HTIB, so I looked through the HTIB alternatives thread, that’s why I am trying to piece together a system.

If I were in your shoes I would do the Post #10 option.

Ok I have come up with two setups and would like to compare them:

Mains- Athena B1.2 Speakers
Center- Athena AS-C1.2 Center Channel Speaker
Sub - Bic H-100
Receiver - Onkyo 604
Surrounds - Athena B1.2 Speakers

In another thread, someone recommended Fluance, so this is a speaker system:
http://www.fluance.com/fluan5speaks.html
Sub - Bic H-100
Receiver - Onkyo 604

Total for both setups around $800, I plan to get the setup around Christmas and hope the price on certain components will come down. Which system would you recommend, also any recommended changes or other systems to look at?
